    Description

These datasets provide datasets on the religion people connect or identify with (their religious affiliation), whether or not they practise or have belief in it, by age and sex using Census 2021 data.

Religious groups in the detailed religion classification

The counts for religious groups identified in the Religion (detailed) in England and Wales dataset are a representation of those who chose to write in their religion. Some people may have chosen to describe a denomination of one of the tick-box responses (for example, Catholic as a denomination of Christian or Orthodox as a denomination of Jewish) through the "Any other religion" write-in response option.

    2011 Religion data

In 2011, an error in the processing of census data led to the number of usual residents in the “Religion not stated” category being overestimated by a total of 62,000 for the following three local authorities combined: Camden, Islington, and Tower Hamlets.

In February 2015, the ONS published corrected figures for estimates based on the tick-box classification. However, it could not be corrected for the detailed religion classification because the processing and relationships with other output variables are so complex.

For this reason, only apply comparisons for these three local authorities to the tick-box classification, using the corrected figures set out in the ONS 2011 Census products: Issues and corrections notice.

For this publication, where corrected figures for the tick-box classification from the 2011 Census are available, they have been used. Where they are not (for single year of age by sex), the ONS has used data from the CT0291_2011 commissioned table.

    Description

This dataset provides Census 2021 estimates that classify usual residents aged 16 years and over in England and Wales by sexual orientation by age, and by sex. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021.

Some sub-populations have age and geographic profiles that may affect the relationships with other variables such as education, employment, health and housing. Take care when using this variable with others. We will publish more detailed commentary and guidance later this year. Read more about this quality notice.

Estimates for single year of age between ages 90 and 100+ are less reliable than other ages. Estimation and adjustment at these ages was based on the age range 90+ rather than five-year age bands. Read more about this quality notice.

    Area type

Census 2021 statistics are published for a number of different geographies. These can be large, for example the whole of England, or small, for example an output area (OA), the lowest level of geography for which statistics are produced.

For higher levels of geography, more detailed statistics can be produced. When a lower level of geography is used, such as output areas (which have a minimum of 100 persons), the statistics produced have less detail. This is to protect the confidentiality of people and ensure that individuals or their characteristics cannot be identified.

    Coverage

Census 2021 statistics are published for the whole of England and Wales. Data are also available in these geographic types:

    • country - for example, Wales
    • region - for example, London
    • local authority - for example, Cornwall
    • health area – for example, Clinical Commissioning Group
    • statistical area - for example, MSOA or LSOA

    Sexual orientation

Classifies people according to the responses to the sexual orientation question. This question was voluntary and was only asked of people aged 16 years and over.

    Age (D)

A person’s age on Census Day, 21 March 2021 in England and Wales. Infants aged under 1 year are classified as 0 years of age. The age group are categorised as follows:

    • Aged 15 years and under
    • Aged 16 to 24 years
    • Aged 25 to 34 years
    • Aged 35 to 44 years
    • Aged 45 to 54 years
    • Aged 55 to 64 years
    • Aged 65 to 74 years
    • Aged 75 years and over

    Sex

This is the sex recorded by the person completing the census. The options were “Female” and “Male”.

    Description

This dataset provides Census 2021 estimates that classify usual residents in England and Wales by national identity, by sex, and by age. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021.

The increase since the 2011 Census in people identifying as “British” and fall in people identifying as “English” may partly reflect true changes in self-perception. It is also likely to reflect that “British” replaced “English” as the first response option listed on the questionnaire in England. Read more about this quality notice.

    Description

Dataset population: Member of the Armed Forces/Member of the Foreign Armed Forces/Schoolchild or full-time student aged 4 and over at their non-term-time address/Full-time students and schoolchildren aged 4 and over living away from home during term-time (only including schoolchildren and students where information was provided at their home address)

    Age

Age is derived from the date of birth question and is a person's age at their last birthday, at 27 March 2011. Dates of birth that imply an age over 115 are treated as invalid and the person's age is imputed. Infants less than one year old are classified as 0 years of age.

    Sex

The classification of a person as either male or female.

    Usual resident population

The main population base for statistics from the 2011 Census is the usual resident population as at census day, 27 March 2011. Although the population base for enumeration included non-UK-born short-term residents, this population is analysed separately and is not included in the main outputs from the 2011 Census.

All statistics are produced using only usual residents of the UK unless otherwise specified.

For 2011 Census purposes, a usual resident of the UK is anyone who, on census day, was in the UK and had stayed or intended to stay in the UK for a period of 12 months or more, or had a permanent UK address and was outside the UK and intended to be outside the UK for less than 12 months.

For information about the main population base for statistics, how other population sub-groups are counted, and all variable definitions, see information about ONS variables and classifications.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the population of Mentor-On-The-Lake by gender, including both male and female populations. This dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Mentor-On-The-Lake across both sexes and to determine which sex constitutes the majority.

    Key observations

There is a slight majority of male population, with 50.2% of total population being male. Source: U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates.

    Content

When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates.

    Scope of gender :

Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. The question is intended to capture data for biological sex, not gender. Respondents are supposed to respond with the answer as either of Male or Female. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis. No further analysis is done on the data reported from the Census Bureau.

    Variables / Data Columns

    • Gender: This column displays the Gender (Male / Female)
    • Population: The population of the gender in the Mentor-On-The-Lake is shown in this column.
    • % of Total Population: This column displays the percentage distribution of each gender as a proportion of Mentor-On-The-Lake total population. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.

    Good to know

    Margin of Error

Data in the dataset are based on the estimates and are subject to sampling variability and thus a margin of error. Neilsberg Research recommends using caution when presening these estimates in your research.

The census is undertaken by the Office for National Statistics every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. The most recent census took place in March of 2021.The census asks every household questions about the people who live there and the type of home they live in. In doing so, it helps to build a detailed snapshot of society. Information from the census helps the government and local authorities to plan and fund local services, such as education, doctors' surgeries and roads.Key census statistics for Leicester are published on the open data platform to make information accessible to local services, voluntary and community groups, and residents.Further information about the census and full datasets can be found on the ONS website - https://www.ons.gov.uk/census/aboutcensus/censusproducts

    Description

This data reference standard is part of a suite that provides a standard list of values to categorize data on person(s). The list reflects the classifications of sex assigned at birth and is designed to provide common data variables of the reported sex at birth, typically assigned based on a person’s reproductive system and other physical characteristics. This data reference standard is to be used by exception and read in conjunction with Policy Direction to Modernize the Government of Canada’s Sex and Gender Information Practices and the Disaggregated Data Action Plan. This list of values is intended to standardize the way sex assigned at birth classifications are coded in datasets to enable data interoperability and improve data quality. The numbering system is a one-digit code. The appendix lists a data reference table that includes the one-digit codes for designating sex assigned at birth. Not included in this data reference standard is the lived or current sex of person(s). This data reference standard will be reviewed as required by the data reference steward in consultation with the data reference standard custodian. For support or advice on the measurement of “sex at birth of person” or related data variables, contact statcan.csds-cnsd.statcan@statcan.gc.ca. Find more resources with the keyword “reference data
