    Description

This data set is an index identifying Ontario Base Map (OBM) map tiles and digital vector data available for each tile. Eastern and Southern Ontario is covered at a scale of 1:10,000 and Northern Ontario is covered at a scale of 1:20,000.

Ontario Base Maps (OBM) are a series of maps created and updated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources between 1977 and 2000. The MNR extracted the 33 layers from their NAD83 NRVIS dataset to create the NAD83 digital OBM sheets and vector data packages. The data provided may not be spatially defined upon download and may need to be defined using GIS (e.g. NAD 83 UTM Zone 18).

The data and maps cover most of Ontario and contain many features normally found on topographic maps such as relief, hydrography, vegetation and roads.

The Ontario Imagery Web Map Service (OIWMS) is an open data service available to everyone free of charge. It provides instant online access to the most recent, highest quality, province wide imagery. GEOspatial Ontario (GEO) makes this data available as an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant web map service or as an ArcGIS map service. Imagery was compiled from many different acquisitions which are detailed in the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service Metadata Guide linked below. Instructions on how to use the service can also be found in the Imagery User Guide linked below.Note: This map displays the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service Source, a companion ArcGIS web map service to the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service. It provides an overlay that can be used to identify acquisition relevant information such as sensor source and acquisition date. OIWMS contains several hierarchical layers of imagery, with coarser less detailed imagery that draws at broad scales, such as a province wide zooms, and finer more detailed imagery that draws when zoomed in, such as city-wide zooms. The attributes associated with this data describes at what scales (based on a computer screen) the specific imagery datasets are visible.Available ProductsOntario Imagery OCG Web Map Service – public linkOntario Imagery ArcGIS Map Service – public linkOntario Imagery Web Map Service Source – public linkOntario Imagery ArcGIS Map Service – OPS internal linkOntario Imagery Web Map Service Source – OPS internal linkAdditional DocumentationOntario Imagery Web Map Service Metadata Guide (PDF)Imagery User Guide (Word)StatusCompleted: Production of the data has been completedMaintenance and Update FrequencyAnnually: Data is updated every yearContactOntario Ministry of Natural Resources, Geospatial Ontario, imagery@ontario.ca

    Description

Single photon lidar light detection and ranging (SPL LiDAR) is an active remote sensing technology for: * mapping vegetation aspects including cover, density and height * representing the earth's terrain and elevation contours We acquired SPL data on an airborne acquisition platform under leaf-on conditions to support Forest Resources Inventory (FRI) development. FRI provides: * information to support resource management planning and land use decisions within Ontario’s Managed Zone * information on tree species, density, heights, ages and distribution The SPL data point density ranges from a min of 25pts/m. Each point represents heights of objects such as: * ground level terrain points * heights of vegetation * buildings The lidar was classified according to the Ontario lidar classifications. Low, medium and tall vegetation are classed as 3, 4, 5 and 12 classes. The FRI SPL products include the following digital elevation models: * digital terrain model * canopy height model * digital surface model * intensity model (signal width to return ratio) * forest inventory raster metrics * forest inventory attributes * predicted streams * hydro break lines * block control points Lidar fMVA data supports developing detailed 3D analysis of: * forest inventory * terrain * hydrology * infrastructure * transportation * other mapping applications We made significant investments in Single Photon LiDAR data, now available on the Open Data Catalogue. Description

The historic bathymetry maps were created using simple methods to determine lake depths and were meant for resource management purposes only.Bathymetry is the measurement of water depth in lakes. From the 1940s to the 1990s, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry produced bathymetry maps for over 11,000 lakes across Ontario. The data can be used by the general public and GIS specialists for:climate change modellingfish monitoring and other ecological applicationshydrologic cycle modellingrecreational fishing mapswatershed-based water budgetingThe maps were created using simple methods to determine lake depths. They were meant for resource management purposes only. Little effort was made to identify shoals and other hazards when creating these bathymetric maps.Since this data was collected, many constructed and naturally occurring events could mean that the depth information is now inaccurate, so these maps should not be used for navigational purposes. In many cases, these maps still represent the only authoritative source of bathymetry data for lakes in Ontario.Technical informationThese maps are being converted to digital GIS line data which can be found in the Bathymetry Line data class. The Bathymetry Index data class identifies if GIS vector lines have been created and the location of mapped lakes. The historic paper maps have been scanned into digital files. We will add new digital files to this dataset if they become available. The digital files have been grouped and packaged by regions into 13 compressed (zipped) files for bulk download.Note: package 99 contains scanned maps where the location shown on the map could not be determined.Product PackagesHistoric Bathymetry Maps - Package 1 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 2 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 3 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 4 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 5 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 6 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 7 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 8 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 9 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 10 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 11 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 12 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 13 (ZIP)Historic Bathymetry Maps - Package 99 (ZIP)Additional DocumentationBathymetry User Guide (Word)Bathymetry Package Map (Word)Bathymetry Lookup Values (Excel)StatusCompleted: Production of the data has been completedMaintenance and Update FrequencyNot planned: There are no plans to update the dataContactOntario Ministry of Natural Resources - Geospatial Ontario,geospatial@ontario.ca

    Description

This data represents the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) administrative boundaries from 1997-2022. Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) administrative areas divide Ontario into smaller organizational units. These units were used to manage ministry programs and resources at a district and regional level. Regional and district boundaries were originally created based on: * metes and bounds * topographic features * geographic townships boundaries * territorial district boundaries We made changes to district boundaries over time. We are no longer updating this data. It is best suited for historical research and analysis. MNR regions MNR regions were created to help manage ministry programs and resources at a regional level. Regions consist of several districts. MNR districts MNR regions were divided into smaller organizational units called districts. MNR areas MNR districts were further divided into areas.

Zoom in on the map above and click your area of interest or use the Tile Index linked below to determine which package(s) you require for download. The DTM data is available in the form of 1-km by 1-km non-overlapping tiles grouped into packages for download. This dataset is a compilation of lidar data from multiple acquisition projects, as such specifications, parameters and sensors may vary by project. See the detailed User Guide linked below for additional information.

You can monitor the availability and status of lidar projects on the Ontario Lidar Coverage map on the Ontario Elevation Mapping Program hub page.

Now also available through a web service which exposes the data for visualization, geoprocessing and limited download. The service is best accessed through the ArcGIS REST API, either directly or by setting up an ArcGIS server connection using the REST endpoint URL. The service draws using the Web Mercator projection.

For more information on what functionality is available and how to work with the service, read the Ontario Web Raster Services User Guide. If you have questions about how to use the service, email Geospatial Ontario (GEO) at geospatial@ontario.ca.

The Ontario Dam Inventory (ODI) is a point based (x, y location) inventory of medium and large dams throughout Ontario. The ODI does not contain small dams, small water control structures, beaver dams, water crossings, road embankments, locks, falls, rapids or culverts.

The ODI is not intended to carry extensive attribution for all business areas. Each dam location has an identifier that other databases can link to.

The ODI is a structured product that replaces the original Ontario Dam Inventory (Packaged Product) which has been retired. Additional Documentation
