    This web map features a vector basemap of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data created and hosted by Esri. Esri produced this vector tile basemap in ArcGIS Pro from a live replica of OSM data, hosted by Esri, and rendered using a creative cartographic style emulating a blueprint technical drawing. The vector tiles are updated every few weeks with the latest OSM data. This vector basemap is freely available for any user or developer to build into their web map or web mapping apps.OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an open collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. Volunteers gather location data using GPS, local knowledge, and other free sources of information and upload it.     Description

    This open-source alternative mapping service also publishes regular database dumps. We downloaded a full history dump of OSM contributions as of 24 February 2014, restricting this to the North American region as defined by Geofabrik 6 , which consists of the United States, Canada and Greenland. OSM groups individual changes to the map into changesets 7 when an editor saves their work. We used the timestamp of the last revision in a changeset as the time that the user saved the changeset. The resulting dataset (osm, changeset) contains 13,388,923 million changesets from 46,595 distinct users.

    Description

    Public urban green spaces are important for the urban quality of life. Still, comprehensive open data sets on urban green spaces are not available for most cities. As open and globally available data sets the potential of Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and OpenStreetMap (OSM) data for urban green space mapping is high but limited due to their respective uncertainties. Sentinel-2 imagery cannot distinguish public from private green spaces and its spatial resolution of 10 meters fails to capture fine-grained urban structures, while in OSM green spaces are not mapped consistently and with the same level of completeness everywhere. To address these limitations we propose to fuse these data sets under explicit consideration of their uncertainties. The Sentinel-2 derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index was fused with OSM data using the Dempster-Shafer theory to enhance the detection of small vegetated areas. The distinction between public and private green spaces was achieved using a Bayesian hierarchical model and OSM data. The analysis was performed based on land use parcels derived from OSM data and tested for the city of Dresden, Germany. The overall accuracy of the final map of public urban green spaces was 95\%, which was mainly influenced by the uncertainty of the public accessibility model.

    Browsing our map is easy. Have a look around and see what you think of our coverage and detail. Over the years we've progressed quite spectacularly, achieving many mapping milestones. Individuals, governments and commercial companies have already begun putting this data to use, and in many countries, for many uses, OpenStreetMap is a viable alternative to other map providers. However the map isn't finished yet. The world is a big place. How does your neighbourhood look on OSM? There's lots of other ways to start using OpenStreetMap too.

    Development

    Extensive software development work is taking this project in many different directions. As mentioned above, we have created various map editing tools. In fact OpenStreetMap is powered by open-source software from its slippy map interface to the underlying data access API (a web service interface for reading and writing map data). There is opportunity for subprojects that work with or use our data, but we also need help fixing bugs and adding features to our core components.

    Developers and translators are always welcome!

    The OpenStreetMap Foundation

    The OpenStreetMap Foundation is an organization that performs fund-raising. One major expense is acquiring and maintaining the servers that host the OpenStreetMap project. While the foundation supports the project, it does not control the project or "own" the OSM data. The foundation is dedicated to encouraging the growth, development and distribution of free geospatial data and to providing geospatial data for anyone to use and share.

    The Digital Geomorphic-GIS Map of Gulf Islands National Seashore (5-meter accuracy and 1-foot resolution 2006-2007 mapping), Mississippi and Florida is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (guis_geomorphology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (guis_geomorphology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (guis_geomorphology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) A GIS readme file (guis_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (guis_geomorphology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (guis_geomorphology_metadata_faq.pdf).     The Stata data file "jumla_kavre_osmtracker_merged.dta” and equivalent excel file of the same name comprises data on water, waste management and landmarks collected by adolescent secondary school students during a "Citizen Science" project in the district of Kavre in the central hills of Nepal during April 2022 and in the district of Jumla in the remote mountains of West Nepal during June 2022. The project was part of a CIFF-funded Children in All Policies 2030 (CAP2030) project.

    The data were generated by the students using an open access data collection and mapping application called Open Street Map (OSM) tracker, which had been adapted with Nepali language prompts by Researchers from Kathmandu Living Labs (KLL). Researchers from KLL and University College London (UCL) trained the adolescents to record tracks and way points of certain types of information including categories of waste management (rubbish dumps/bins), water sources and public amenities. The resulting datafile is a summary of the data collected showing the latitude/longitude, name, and category of the type of location and the district. The app and the process of gathering the data are described in a paper entitled "Citizen science for climate change resilience: engaging adolescents to study climate hazards, biodiversity and nutrition in rural Nepal" submitted to Wellcome Open Research in Feb 2023. The data contributed to Table 5, and Figure 4 of this paper.

    Description

    The High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) product is derived from airborne LiDAR data (mainly in the south) and satellite images in the north. The complete coverage of the Canadian territory is gradually being established. It includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and other derived data. For DTM datasets, derived data available are slope, aspect, shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps and for DSM datasets, derived data available are shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps. The productive forest line is used to separate the northern and the southern parts of the country. This line is approximate and may change based on requirements. In the southern part of the country (south of the productive forest line), DTM and DSM datasets are generated from airborne LiDAR data. They are offered at a 1 m or 2 m resolution and projected to the UTM NAD83 (CSRS) coordinate system and the corresponding zones. The datasets at a 1 m resolution cover an area of 10 km x 10 km while datasets at a 2 m resolution cover an area of 20 km by 20 km. In the northern part of the country (north of the productive forest line), due to the low density of vegetation and infrastructure, only DSM datasets are generally generated. Most of these datasets have optical digital images as their source data. They are generated at a 2 m resolution using the Polar Stereographic North coordinate system referenced to WGS84 horizontal datum or UTM NAD83 (CSRS) coordinate system. Each dataset covers an area of 50 km by 50 km. For some locations in the north, DSM and DTM datasets can also be generated from airborne LiDAR data. In this case, these products will be generated with the same specifications as those generated from airborne LiDAR in the southern part of the country. The HRDEM product is referenced to the Canadian Geodetic Vertical Datum of 2013 (CGVD2013), which is now the reference standard for heights across Canada. Source data for HRDEM datasets is acquired through multiple projects with different partners. Since data is being acquired by project, there is no integration or edgematching done between projects. The tiles are aligned within each project. The product High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) is part of the CanElevation Series created in support to the National Elevation Data Strategy implemented by NRCan. Collaboration is a key factor to the success of the National Elevation Data Strategy.     Description

    Source of Imagery

    Our strategy is to reuse images from existing benchmark datasets as much as possible and manually annotate new land cover labels. We selected xBD, Inria, Open Cities AI, SpaceNet, Landcover.ai, AIRS, GeoNRW, and HTCD datasets. For countries and regions not covered by the existing datasets, aerial images publicly available in such countries or regions were collected to mitigate the regional gap, which is an issue in most of the existing benchmark datasets. The open data were downloaded from OpenAerialMap and geospatial agencies in Peru and Japan. The attribution of source data is summarized here.

    Classes and Annotations

    We provide annotations with eight classes: bareland, rangeland, developed space, road, tree, water, agriculture land, and building. Their color and proportion of pixels are summarized below. All the labeling was done manually, and it took 2.5 hours per image on average.

    This map references the OpenStreetMap tile layer hosted by Esri. This tile layer presents a new vector basemap of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data created and hosted by Esri, now in beta release. Esri produced this vector tile basemap in ArcGIS Pro from a live replica of OSM data, hosted by Esri, that was rendered using OSM cartography. The vector tiles are updated every few weeks; refer to the OpenStreetMap tile layer for details on when it was last updated. When fully released, this vector basemap will be freely available for any user or developer to build into their web map or web mapping apps.OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an open collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world.
