    Description

    ESYS plc and the Department of Geomatic Engineering at University College London (UCL) have been funded by the British National Space Centre (BNSC) to develop a web GIS service to serve geographic data derived from remote sensing datasets. Funding was provided as part of the BNSC International Co-operation Programme 2 (ICP-2).

    Particular aims of the project were to:

    1. use Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC, recently renamed from the OpenGIS Consortium) technologies for map and data serving;

    2. serve datasets for Europe and Africa, particularly Landsat TM and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) digital elevation model (DEM) data;

    3. provide a website giving access to the served data;

    4. provide software scripts, etc., and a document reporting the data processing and software set-up methods developed during the project.

    ICEDS was inspired in particular by the Committee on Earth Observing Satellites (CEOS) CEOS Landsat and SRTM Project (CLASP) proposal. An express intention of ICEDS (aim 4 in the list above) was therefore that the solution developed by ESYS and UCL should be redistributable, for example, to other CEOS members. This was taken to mean not only software scripts but also the methods developed by the project team to prepare the data and set up the server. In order to be compatible with aim 4, it was also felt that the use of Open Source, or at least 'free-of-cost' software for the Web GIS serving was an essential component. After an initial survey of the Web GIS packages available at the time , the ICEDS team decided to use the Deegree package, a free software initiative founded by the GIS and Remote Sensing unit of the Department of Geography, University of Bonn , and lat/lon . However the Red Spider web mapping software suite was also provided by IONIC Software - this is a commercial web mapping package but was provided pro bono by IONIC for this project and has been used in parallel to investigate the possibilities and limitations opened up by using a commercial package.

    Description

    Alkis® enables a redundancy-free, scale-independent and leaf-free posture of the property cadastral data. The additional storage of meta and quality data, e.g. for up-to-dateness and accuracy, enables the user to assess the technical suitability of the data for its application. All relevant facts and legal states (flours, buildings, owners, etc.) are depicted in ALKIS® object-structured. In addition, all objects receive a lifetime interval. Lost objects are merely historicalised and kept in the database, so that any previous situation can be reconstructed. The modelling of the data structure and the interface NAS (standard-based exchange interface) follows the standards and standards of the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) and the OpenGIS consortium (OGC).

    The Toporama Web Map Service (Toporama WMS) of the Earth Sciences Sector (ESS) at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is an Internet service that is intended mainly for online map application users and developers. This service is compatible with OpenGIS® Consortium (OGC) (http://www.opengeospatial.org/) Web Map Service standards and specifications, version 1.1.1. Toporama WMS can be accessed at no cost and without restrictions according to the terms of the Open Government Licence - Canada (http://open.canada.ca/en/open-government-licence-canada). This service can be used to build a customized map using the best baseline data from the ESS for a given scale. These data are known for being accurate and up-to-date. They are grouped together under 15 information themes developed, depending on the scale, using CanVec 1:50,000, the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) 1:250,000 and baseline data from the Atlas of Canada.

    This is an ArcGIS Server Image Service of the 4-band 2013 National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) orthorectified digital aerial photos of Montana. The web services available include: ArcGIS Server Image services, Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) web coverage services (WCS), and OGC web map services (WMS). The image and web coverage services provide users direct access to the native GeoTIFF files and pixel data for geoprocessing and image analysis. Imagery defaults to natural color. To view the imagery as false-color infrared (CIR), select band 4 as the red image, band 1 as the green, and band 2 as the blue. The service is available in Open GIS Consortium (OGC) formats: WCS: https://gisservicemt.gov/arcgis/rest/services/MSDI_Framework/NAIP_2013/ImageServer/WCSServer WMS: https://gisservicemt.gov/arcgis/rest/services/MSDI_Framework/NAIP_2013/ImageServer/WMSServer The data are also available from the State Library in three different formats: They are downloadable as a collection of 698 compressed natural-color MrSID images, each 24 kilometers square. These images are in Montana State Plane coordinates, units meters. The web map for accessing these images is https://montana.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=6564af20b08f4d29b61a5692ee001a2c They are downloadable as a collection of 56 compressed county mosaic (CCM) natural color MrSID images. These data are in UTM coordinates. The FTP folder containing these images is https://ftpgeoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/Imagery/2013_NAIP/UTM_County_Mosaics. They are available from the State Library as a collection 11,776 4-band (near infrared, red, green and blue) TIFF images in UTM coordinates. Each image is about 170 megabytes. The tiling format of the TIFF imagery is based on 3.75 x 3.75 minute quarter-quadrangles with a 300 pixel buffer on all four sides. An ESRI shapefile index showing the dates and times the images were acquired is available at: https://ftpgeoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/Imagery/2013_NAIP/NAIP_2013_Dates.zip. An ESRI shapefile index showing the extent of the individual TIFF image files is available at: https://ftpgeoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/Imagery/2013_NAIP/NAIP_2013_tiff_index.zip. This service is compatible with OpenGIS® Consortium (OGC) (http://www.opengeospatial.org/) Web Map Service (WMS) standards and specifications, version 1.1.1. This base map service has been created to provide locational context with an emphasis on transportation networks over which thematic information can be overlaid. Cartography (colour, symbology, etc.) of the base map has been specifically designed so that thematic information will be more prominent than the locational context information. The range of viewing scales for this service is between 1:60,000,000 and 1:10,000. Features from the following data sets are used by the CBMT service: CanVec, GeoBase, the National Topographic Data Base and base data from the Atlas of Canada National Scale datasets.

    Geospatial Wetlands Digital Data within the continental United States in Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service format. This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in the conterminous United States. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979).Certain wetland habitats are excluded from the National mapping program because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deepwater reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth, go undetected by aerial imagery.By policy, the Service also excludes certain types of farmed wetlands as may be defined by the Food Security Act or that do not coincide with the Cowardin et al. definition. Contact the Service's Regional Wetland Coordinator for additional information on what types of farmed wetlands are included on wetland maps.Purpose: The present goal of the Service is to provide the citizens of the United States and its Trust Territories with current geospatially referenced information on the status, extent, characteristics and functions of wetlands, riparian, deepwater and related aquatic habitats in priority areas to promote the understanding and conservation of these resources.View Full FGDC Metadata
