    Description

Daylight is a complete distribution of global, open map data that’s freely available with support from community and professional mapmakers. Meta combines the work of global contributors to projects like OpenStreetMap with quality and consistency checks from Daylight mapping partners to create a free, stable, and easy-to-use street-scale global map.

The Daylight Map Distribution contains a validated subset of the OpenStreetMap database. In addition to the standard OpenStreetMap PBF format, Daylight is available in two parquet formats that are optimized for AWS Athena including geometries (Points, LineStrings, Polygons, or MultiPolygons). First, Daylight OSM Features contains the nearly 1B renderable OSM features. Second, Daylight OSM Elements contains all of OSM, including all 7B nodes without attributes, and relations that do not contain geometries, such as turn restrictions.

Daylight Earth Table is a new data schema that classifies OpenStreetMap-style tags into a 3-level ontology (theme, class, subclass) and is the result of running the earth table classification over the latest release (v1.18) of the Daylight Map Distribution. The Daylight Earth Table is available as parquet files on Amazon S3.

Precise Tile Registration: The web map uses the improved tiling scheme “WGS84 Geographic, Version 2” to ensure proper tile positioning at higher resolutions (neighborhood level and beyond). The new tiling scheme is much more precise than tiling schemes of the legacy basemaps Esri released years ago. We recommend that you start using this new basemap for any new web maps in WGS84 that you plan to author. Due to the number of differences between the old and new tiling schemes, some web clients will not be able to overlay tile layers in the old and new tiling schemes in one web map.

    Description

This feature layer provides access to OpenStreetMap (OSM) landuse areas data for North America, which is updated every 15 minutes with the latest edits. This hosted feature layer view is referencing a hosted feature layer of OSM polygon (closed way) data in ArcGIS Online that is updated with minutely diffs from the OSM planet file. This feature layer view includes landuse features defined as a query against the hosted feature layer (i.e. landuse is not blank). In OSM, landuse describes the primary use of land by humans. These features are identified with a landuse tag. There are thousands of different tag values for landuse used in the OSM database. In this feature layer, unique symbols are used for several of the most popular landuse types, while lesser used types are grouped in an "other" category.Zoom in to large scales (e.g. City level or 1:80k scale) to see the landuse area features display. You can click on a feature to get the name of the landuse area (if available). The name of the landuse area will display by default at large scales (e.g. Street level of 1:5k scale). Labels can be turned off in your map if you prefer.Create New LayerIf you would like to create a more focused version of this landuse areas layer displaying just one or two landuse types, you can do that easily! Just add the layer to a map, copy the layer in the content window, add a filter to the new layer (e.g. landuse is commercial), rename the layer as appropriate, and save layer. You can also change the layer symbols or popup if you like. Esri may publish a few such layers (e.g. residential, forest) that are ready to use, but not for every type of landuse area.Important Note: if you do create a new layer, it should be provided under the same Terms of Use and include the same Credits as this layer. You can copy and paste the Terms of Use and Credits info below in the new Item page as needed.

    Description

http://www.openstreetmap.org/images/osm_logo.png" alt=""/> OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) is a global collaborative mapping project, which offers maps and map data released with an open license, encouraging free re-use and re-distribution. The data is created by a large community of volunteers who use a variety of simple on-the-ground surveying techniques, and wiki-syle editing tools to collaborate as they create the maps, in a process which is open to everyone. The project originated in London, and an active community of mappers and developers are based here. Mapping work in London is ongoing (and you can help!) but the coverage is already good enough for many uses.

Browse the map of London on OpenStreetMap.org

    Downloads:

The whole of England updated daily:

For more details of downloads available from OpenStreetMap, including downloading the whole planet, see 'planet.osm' on the wiki.

    Data access APIs:

Download small areas of the map by bounding-box. For example this URL requests the data around Trafalgar Square:
    http://api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/map?bbox=-0.13062,51.5065,-0.12557,51.50969

Data filtered by "tag". For example this URL returns all elements in London tagged shop=supermarket:
    http://www.informationfreeway.org/api/0.6/*[shop=supermarket][bbox=-0.48,51.30,0.21,51.70]

    The .osm format

The format of the data is a raw XML represention of all the elements making up the map. OpenStreetMap is composed of interconnected "nodes" and "ways" (and sometimes "relations") each with a set of name=value pairs called "tags". These classify and describe properties of the elements, and ultimately influence how they get drawn on the map. To understand more about tags, and different ways of working with this data format refer to the following pages on the OpenStreetMap wiki.

    Simple embedded maps

Rather than working with raw map data, you may prefer to embed maps from OpenStreetMap on your website with a simple bit of javascript. You can also present overlays of other data, in a manner very similar to working with google maps. In fact you can even use the google maps API to do this. See OSM on your own website for details and links to various javascript map libraries.

    Help build the map!

The OpenStreetMap project aims to attract large numbers of contributors who all chip in a little bit to help build the map. Although the map editing tools take a little while to learn, they are designed to be as simple as possible, so that everyone can get involved. This project offers an exciting means of allowing local London communities to take ownership of their part of the map.

Ordnance Survey ® OpenMap - Local Functional Sites are polygon features that represent the area or extent of certain types of function or activity across England, Wales and Scotland. Functional Sites are classified into five main themes:

Air Transport - This theme includes all sites associated with movement of passengers and goods by air, or where aircraft take off and land. Includes: Airfield, Airport, Helicopter Station, Heliport. Education - This theme includes a very broad group of sites with a common high-level primary function of providing education (either state funded or by fees). Includes: Primary Education, Secondary Education, Special Needs Education, Non State Primary Education, Further Education, Higher or University Education, Non State Secondary Education Medical Care - This theme includes sites which focus on the provision of secondary medical care services. Includes: Medical Care Accommodation, Hospital, Hospice Road Transport - This theme includes: Bus Stations, Coach Stations, Road user services. Water Transport - This theme includes sites involved in the transfer of passengers and or goods onto vessels for transport across water. Includes: Port consisting of Docks and Nautical Berthing, Vehicular Ferry Terminal, Passenger Ferry Terminal.

With OS OpenMap - Local Functional Sites you can:

Understand your area in detail, including the location of key sites such as schools and hospitals. Share high-quality maps of development proposals to help interested parties to understand their extent and impact. Analyse data in relation to important public buildings, roads, railways, lines and more. Use in conjunction with other layers such as Important Buildings - buildings that fall within the extent of a Functional Site. Present accurate information consistently with other available open data products. The currency of the data is 04/2025

    Description

This dataset contains 23 30m resolution raster data of continental Europe land use / land cover classes extracted from OpenStreetMap, as well as administrative areas, and a harmonized building dataset based on OpenStreetMap and Copernicus HRL Imperviousness data.

The land use / land cover classes are:

    1. buildings.commercial
    2. buildings.industrial
    3. buildings.residential
    4. cemetery
    5. construction.site
    6. dump.site (landfill)
    7. farmland
    8. farmyard
    9. forest
    10. grass
    11. greenhouse
    12. harbour
    13. meadow
    14. military
    15. orchard
    16. quarry
    17. railway
    18. reservoir
    19. road
    20. salt
    21. vineyard

The land use / land cover data was generated by extracting OSM vector layers from https://download.geofabrik.de/). These were then transformed into a 30 m density raster for each feature type. This was done by first creating a 10 m raster where each pixel intersecting a vector feature was assigned the value 100. These pixels were then aggregated to 10 m resolution by calculating the average of every 9 adjacent pixels. This resulted in a 0—100 density layer for the three feature types. Although the digitized building data from OSM offers the highest level of detail, its coverage across Europe is inconsistent. To supplement the building density raster in regions where crowd-sourced OSM building data was unavailable, we combined it with Copernicus High Resolution Layers (HRL) (obtained from https://land.copernicus.eu/pan-european/ high-resolution-layers), filling the non-mapped areas in OSM with the Impervious Built-up 2018 pixel values, which was averaged to 30 m. The probability values produced by the averaged aggregation were integrated in such a way that values between 0—100 refer to OSM (lowest and highest probabilities equal to 0 and 100 respectively), and the values between 101—200 refer to Copernicus HRL (lowest and highest probability equal to 200 and 101 respectively). This resulted in a raster layer where values closer to 100 are more likely to be buildings than values closer to 0 and 200. Structuring the data in this way allows us to select the higher probability building pixels in both products by the single boolean expression: Pixel > 50 AND pixel <150.

This dataset is part of the OpenStreetMap+ was used to pre-process the LUCAS/CORINE land use / land cover samples (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4740691) used to train machine learning models in Witjes et al., 2022 (https://doi.org/10.21203/rs.3.rs-561383/v4)

Each layer can be viewed interactively on the Open Data Science Europe data viewer at maps.opendatascience.eu.

Description

This web map features a vector basemap of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data created and hosted by Esri. Esri produced this vector tile basemap in ArcGIS Pro from a live replica of OSM data, hosted by Esri, and rendered using a creative cartographic style emulating a blueprint technical drawing. The vector tiles are updated every few weeks with the latest OSM data. This vector basemap is freely available for any user or developer to build into their web map or web mapping apps.OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an open collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. Volunteers gather location data using GPS, local knowledge, and other free sources of information and upload it. The resulting free map can be viewed and downloaded from the OpenStreetMap site: www.OpenStreetMap.org. Esri is a supporter of the OSM project and is excited to make this new vector basemap available available to the OSM, GIS, and Developer communities.
