It has been pruned to include only those features that have been deemed to be publicly traversable (e.g., streets and footpaths). A simplified global coastline polygon for easy downloading, packaging and processing. Provided is a ~500m (0.005 deg WGS84) shapefile that reduces the 1.1GB global OpenStreetMaps (OSM) land polygon to a dataset that is less than 10MB, while retaining the general shoreline of larger islands. Code is available for further information on the processing of the 1.1GB global OSM coastline to 500m or ~100m (0.001 deg WGS84) including all islands (144MB) (not provided here).
