    Description

2010 Deschutes County, Oregon Census Block Groups. A census block group (BG) is a cluster of census blocks having the same first digit of their four-digit identifying numbers within a census tract. For example, block group 3 (BG 3) within a census tract includes all blocks numbered from 3000 to 3999. BGs generally contain between 600 and 3,000 people, with an optimum size of 1,500 people. Most BGs were delineated by local participants as part of the U.S. Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program.

Notes: These 7 fields are mutually exclusive. Use them if you need the sum of the race categories to equal total population. NH_WHITE_O Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: White alone NH_BLACK_O Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: Black or African American alone NH_AIAN_ON Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: American Indian and Alaska Native alone NH_ASIAN_O Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: Asian alone NH_NHOPI_O Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone NH_OTHER Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of one race: Some Other Race alone NH_TWO_OR_ Not Hispanic or Latino: Population of two or more races

Use these fields to include all people who chose the specific race. For example, 30% of Oregonians who chose ""Black or African American"" also chose another race and some also chose Hispanic, so the NH_BLACK_O field under reports the African American population. Description

Summary File 2 contains 100-percent United States decennial Census data, which is the information compiled from the questions asked of all people and about every housing unit. Population items include sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, and group quarters occupancy. Housing items include occupancy status, vacancy status, and tenure (owner-occupied or renter- occupied). The 100-percent data are presented in 36 population tables ("PCT") and 11 housing tables ("HCT") down to the census tract level. Each table is iterated for 250 population groups: the total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska Native tribe categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes), and 39 Hispanic or Latino groups. The presentation of tables for any of the 250 population groups is subject to a population threshold of 100 or more people, that is, if there were fewer than 100 people in a specific population group in a specific geographic area, their population and housing characteristics data are not available for that geographic area.

    Description

2010 Deschutes County, Oregon Census Tracts. Census tracts are small, relatively permanent statistical subdivisions of a county delineated by local participants as part of the U.S. Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program. The primary purpose of census tracts is to provide a stable set of geographic units for the presentation of decennial census data. Census tracts generally have between 1,500 and 8,000 people, with an optimum size of 4,000 people. When first delineated, census tracts are designed to be homogeneous with respect to population characteristics, economic status, and living conditions. The spatial size of census tracts varies widely depending on the density of settlement.

Notes: These 7 fields are mutually exclusive. Use them if you need the sum of the race categories to equal total population. Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories idetified by the US Census Bureau. It is ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories, and do not rely on any ethnicity classification. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

Variables / Data Columns

  • Race: This column displays the racial categories (excluding ethnicity) for the Oregon
  • Population: The population of the racial category (excluding ethnicity) in the Oregon is shown in this column.
  • % of Total Population: This column displays the percentage distribution of each race as a proportion of Oregon total population. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.

Good to know

Margin of Error

Data in the dataset are based on the estimates and are subject to sampling variability and thus a margin of error. Neilsberg Research recommends using caution when presening these estimates in your research.

Custom data

If you do need custom data for any of your research project, report or presentation, you can contact our research staff at research@neilsberg.com for a feasibility of a custom tabulation on a fee-for-service basis.

Inspiration

Neilsberg Research Team curates, analyze and publishes demographics and economic data from a variety of public and proprietary sources, each of which often includes multiple surveys and programs.
