OS VectorMap Local Backdrop Colour Raster is a GeoTiff, pre-styled backdrop colour version of the OS VectorMap Local vector dataset at a nominal scale of 1:10000 covering the whole of Great Britain that has been designed for creating graphical mapping. The Living England project, led by Natural England, is a multi-year programme delivering a satellite-derived national habitat layer in support of the Environmental Land Management (ELM) System and the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Pilot. As of the July 2021 basemap update, the raster basemaps (OS Open Carto, Background, Greyscale and Greyscale Labels) have now entered Mature Support. These four services will no longer be updated but will remain available to use for the foreseeable future. We encourage users to switch to the new GB Vector Basemaps. Read more in our blog.The OS Open 'Carto' base map is designed to be used as background mapping providing a seamless map view from small to large scales with a consistent cartographic representation. The sources of data are Ordnance Survey Vector Map District data for small and mid-scales and Open Map Local for larger scales. The currency of the data is; Vector Map District - 05/2021Open Map Local - 04/2021The coverage of the map service is GB. The map projection is British National Grid.
