Daylight is a complete distribution of global, open map data that’s freely available with support from community and professional mapmakers. Meta combines the work of global contributors to projects like OpenStreetMap with quality and consistency checks from Daylight mapping partners to create a free, stable, and easy-to-use street-scale global map.
The Daylight Map Distribution contains a validated subset of the OpenStreetMap database. In addition to the standard OpenStreetMap PBF format, Daylight is available in two parquet formats that are optimized for AWS Athena including geometries (Points, LineStrings, Polygons, or MultiPolygons). First, Daylight OSM Features contains the nearly 1B renderable OSM features. Second, Daylight OSM Elements contains all of OSM, including all 7B nodes without attributes, and relations that do not contain geometries, such as turn restrictions.
Daylight Earth Table is a new data schema that classifies OpenStreetMap-style tags into a 3-level ontology (theme, class, subclass) and is the result of running the earth table classification over the latest release (v1.18) of the Daylight Map Distribution. The Daylight Earth Table is available as parquet files on Amazon S3.

Semantic 3D city models have been widely used in computer graphics, geomatics, planning, construction, and urban simulation. While traditional geometric models are used only for visualization purposes, semantic 3D city models contain abundant detailed information, such as location, classification, and functional aspects. Such semantics can facilitate a better interpretation of the built environment by computers. However, the current semantic 3D city models are mostly specific to particular city object types and features, with unclear spatial semantics, which limits their broader applications. This study, therefore, proposes a novel framework called OSMsc, where OSM refers to OpenStreetMap and sc refers to semantic city. The OSMsc framework considers OSM as the primary data source to construct city objects within the specified study area, construct semantic connectors, enrich spatial semantics, and generate the CityJSON-formatted model. The case studies demonstrate that semantic 3D city models constructed by OSMsc are free from geometric and semantic errors, applicable to any city worldwide, and have potential for urban studies, such as urban morphology and urban microclimate analysis. This repository contains both the source code for OSMsc and the Semantic 3D City Models (S3CMs) of 25 cities in the US and Europe, as presented in our paper titled "OSMsc: A Framework for Semantic 3D City Modeling Using OpenStreetMap" (doi:10.1080/13658816.2023.2266824).

The 3D Global Building Footprints (3D-GloBFP) dataset is the first global-scale building height dataset at the individual building footprint level for the year 2020, generated through the integration of multisource Earth Observation (EO) data and the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) model. The reliability and accuracy of 3D-GloBFP have been validated across 33 subregions, achieving R² values ranging from 0.66 to 0.96 and root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) between 1.9 m and 14.6 m.
This version supplements building footprints and height attributes for some countries in South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, based on building footprints provided by Microsoft (https://github.com/microsoft/GlobalMLBuildingFootprints), Open Street Map (https://osmbuildings.org/), Google-Microsoft Open Buildings - combined by VIDA (https://source.coop/repositories/vida/google-microsoft-open-buildings), and EUBUCCO (https://eubucco.com/).
The dataset is divided into spatial grid-based tiles, each stored as an individual ShapeFile (.shp) containing estimated building heights (in meters) in attribute tables. See world_grid.shp and readme.txt for details on the spatial grid and file naming.

The dataset comprises the pretraining and testing data for our work: Terrain-Informed Self-Supervised Learning: Enhancing Building Footprint Extraction from LiDAR Data with Limited Annotations. The pretaining data consists of images corresponding to the Digital Surface Models (DSM) and Digital Terrain Models (DTM) obtained from Norway, with a ground resolution of 1 meter, utilizing the UTM 33N projection. The primary data source for this dataset is the Norwegian Mapping Authority (Kartverket), which has made the data freely available on their website under the CC BY 4.0 license (Source: https://hoydedata.no/, License terms: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) The DSM and DTM models are generated from 3D LiDAR point clouds collected through periodic aerial campaigns. During these campaigns, the LiDAR sensors capture data with a maximum offset of 20 degrees from the nadir. Additionally, a subset of data also includes building footprints/labels created using the OpenStreetMap (OSM) database. Specifically, building footprints extracted from the OSM database were rasterized to match the grid of the DTM and DSM models. These rasterized labels are made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) in compliance with the OSM license requirements. We hope this dataset facilitates various applications in geographic analysis, remote sensing, and machine learning research.
