County boundaries (linear features) for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. Original Sources: PA - PennDOT NJ - NJOIT DE - DE Geological Survey MD, NY, CT, DC - ESRI Linework has been adjusted using the following methodology. NJ's boundaries overrode PA, since NJ's were highly accurate. PA overrode MD since PennDOT's were more accurate than ESRI's, and DE overrode PA & MD, since the "arc" of northernmost DE was a bit more accurate than PennDOT's or our original county boundaries. County boundaries in the DVRPC region have been adjusted to align with parcel data (where appropriate). NOTE: Use the following definition query if only need one county in DVRPC Region "Co_Name" LIKE '%Bucks%'

Abstract: Boundaries of municipalities within Pennsylvania as delineated for the PennDOT Type 10 general highway maps. Additional information comes from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Municipal Services. This layer contains all classifications of municipality including first and second class townships, boroughs, cities and the town. The shape file reflects a name change from Osborne borough to Glen Osborne borough in Allegheny county and a name change from Abington Township to Waverly Township in Lackawanna county. The shape file also reflects various municipal boundary line tweaks that have occurred since the 2011_01 update. Purpose: Public information and support for transportation planning, design and development. Supplemental_Information: This data is intended for use at 1:24,000 or smaller scale. This layer supercedes and replaces previous versions of padot-borough, padot-city-town, and padot-township.

    Description

From the site: "Late in 1994, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey was asked to develop a digital physiographic provinces map at 1:100,000 scale. The then-available physiographic provinces map was compiled by the Survey at 1:500,000 scale and published at 1:2,000,000 scale in 1989. A new physiographic provinces map was recompiled on county 1:50,000-scale topographic maps having 20-foot contour intervals. Boundaries based primarily on geology were positioned using published geological maps. Most boundaries were positioned by topographic interpretation. The use of a 20-foot contour interval (a 200-foot interval was used in 1989) resulted in the repositioning of some boundaries. New scale-enhanced understanding of topographic/geologic patterns in the Appalachian Plateaus province resulted in the creation of three new sections and the revision of other section boundaries. The new compilation was reduced 50 percent and transferred to 1:100,000-scale mylar base maps. The province and section boundaries and the late Wisconsinan glacial border were digitized from the mylars, edgematched, assembled into a single dataset, and attributed with physiographic province and section names using UNIX-based Arc/Info. The late Wisconsinan glacial border, which coincides with province and section boundaries in some places, was copied to a separate dataset and removed from the dataset containing the province and section boundaries. There are two datasets for the late Wisconsinan glacial border and the physiographic province and section boundaries. The original datasets are accurate at 1:100,000 scale. The other datasets have been generalized to 1:500,000-scale accuracy for more regional work. A companion dataset consisting of the state and county boundaries of Pennsylvania was compiled from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 1:100,000-scale digital-line-graph (DLG) files for boundaries. The dataset has been attributed with the county names."

    Description

The Hydrology Feature Dataset contains photogrammetrically compiled water drainage features and structures including rivers, streams, drainage canals, locks, dams, lakes, ponds, reservoirs and mooring cells. Rivers, Lakes, Ponds, Reservoirs, Hidden Lakes, Reservoirs or Ponds: If greater than 25 feet and less than 30 feet wide, is captured as a double line stream. If greater than 30 feet wide it is captured as a river. Lakes are large standing bodies of water greater than 5 acres in size. Ponds are large standing bodies of water greater than 1 acre and less than 5 acres in size. Polygons are created from Stream edges and River Edges. The Ohio River, Monongahela River and Allegheny River are coded as Major Rivers. All other River and Stream polygons are coded as River. If a stream is less than 25 feet wide it is placed as a single line and coded as a Stream. Both sides of the stream are digitized and coded as a Stream for Streams whose width is greater than 25 feet. River edges are digitized and coded as River.

A Drainage Canal is a manmade or channelized hydrographic feature. Drainage Canals are differentiated from streams in that drainage canals have had the sides and/or bottom stabilized to prevent erosion for the predominant length of the feature. Streams may have had some stabilization done, but are primarily in a natural state. Lakes are large standing bodies of water greater than five acres in size. Ponds are large standing bodies of water greater than one acre in size and less than five acres in size. Reservoirs are manmade embankments of water. Included in this definition are both covered and uncovered water tanks. Reservoirs that are greater than one acre in size are digitized. Hidden Streams, Hidden Rivers and Hidden Drainage Canal or Culverts are those areas of drainage where the water flows through a manmade facility such as a culvert. Hydrology Annotation is not being updated but will be preserved. If a drainage feature has been removed, as apparent on the aerial photography, the associated drainage name annotation will be removed. A Mooring Cell is a structure to which tows can tie off while awaiting lockage. They are normally constructed of concrete and steel and are anchored to the river bottom by means of gravity or sheet piling.

Mooring Cells do not currently exist in the Allegheny County dataset but will be added. Locks are devices that are used to control flow or access to a hydrologic feature. The edges of the Lock are captured. Dams are devices that are used to hold or delay the natural flow of water. The edges of the Dam are shown.

This dataset is harvested on a weekly basis from Allegheny County’s GIS data portal. The full metadata record for this dataset can also be found on Allegheny County's GIS portal. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides a digital geospatial database for the bedrock geologic map of the Beans Cove and Hyndman quadrangles and part of the Fairhope quadrangle (de Witt, 1974). Attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines, and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (GeMS, 2020) and represent the geologic map as published in the Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-801 with no adjustments made to any of the map data. The Description of Map Units (DMU) summarizes descriptions of the same lithostratigraphic units from adjacent maps published by the same author in the area and is expanded from the minimal text published on the original map plate. Some revisions to stratigraphic nomenclature were made to conform with modern usage. When symbolized according to the accompanying Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) style file, this data release presents the geologic map as shown on the published map by de Witt. The area is delineated following a generalized line along the outside edge of tree trunks. Areas are captured if at least one acre in size or of major significance especially in urban areas.

If viewing this description on the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center’s open data portal (http://www.wprdc.org), this dataset is harvested on a weekly basis from Allegheny County’s GIS data portal (http://openac.alcogis.opendata.arcgis.com/). The full metadata record for this dataset can also be found on Allegheny County’s GIS portal. Development Notes: This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and miscellaneous areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features layer (point and line features) is optional. This layer displays the location of features too small to delineate at the mapping scale, but they are large enough and contrasting enough to significantly influence use and management. The soil map units are linked to attributes in the National Soil Information System relational database, which gives the proportionate extent of the component soils and their properties. The soil map and data used in the SSURGO product were prepared by soil scientists as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey

    Description

These contour lines were derived and delivered for Pennsylvania from the PAMAP Quality Level 3 (QL3) LIDAR data collection between 2006 and 2008. Some post-processing has been done to the original deliverables, including merging, line smoothing, and eliminating duplicate (overlapping) data between collections. This dataset renders the contour lines with the following scale-dependent visibility: 100 foot increments between 1:200,000 and 1:100,000 | 50 foot increments between 1:100,000 and 1:30,000 | 20 foot increments between 1:30,000 and 1:5,000 | 10 foot increments between 1:5,000 and 1:1,000 | and 2 foot increments between 1:1,000 and 1:10. The lines have been smoothed using the ArcGIS Pro 3.3 Smooth Line geoprocessing tool via the Polynomial Approximation with Exponential Kernal (PAEK) and setting a 10 ft smoothing tolerance distance. The extent of this data extends slightly beyond the Pennsylvania boundary into all surrounding states to ensure complete coverage of Pennsylvania. Duplicate (overlapping) contour data between collection years and north/south state plane zones has been eliminated by splitting the data from adjacent collects at county boundaries to ensure a seamless product with no duplication or overlapping data. The contour line geometries along the county boundaries that separate different years of PAMAP data collection (2006, 2007, and 2008) do not always connect properly.
