The prefecture of Japan's capital was followed by Aichi Prefecture, which is home to many manufacturing businesses that depend on foreign labor. The lowest number of foreign residents was recorded in Akita Prefecture, which is part of the more rural Tohoku region.

As of January 2024, more than ******* residents from China were registered in Tokyo Prefecture, accounting for the largest share of foreign nationals. The second-largest group of foreign nationals living in the prefecture were from South Korea.
