From 2014 to 2015 unlocked smartphone shipments in the United States increased by around 240 percent to almost 15 million units, accounting for about 10 percent of overall smartphone shipments. During the same period, the Florida-based BLU more than doubled its unlocked smartphone shipments to more than 5 million units. In 2015, Apple also increased its shipments to 1.8 million units, with Motorola shipping more than one million units as well. That same year, BLU took the lead among all mobile manufacturers in terms of market share, capturing nearly 35 percent share in the United State, meanwhile Apple and Motorola accounted for 12 and 10 percent respectively of the unlocked smartphone market.
