Women represent a minority in the tech sector. In Italy, only three in 10 people working in data and IT sectors are women. Similarly, only 19 percent of engineers are women, while they make up 17 percent of people employed in data computing.

In 2024, South Carolina and the District of Columbia's tech sector workforce had the greatest gender balance, with ** percent male and ** percent female. Wyoming had the least share of women among other states for tech sector workers that year, with women representing around ** percent. Overall, the female workforce made up around ********* of the tech workforce in the United States.

Introduction

Diversity in Tech Statistics: Despite the efforts towards inclusivity in the tech rural in 2024, this remains a hot topic. The tech industry, in as much as it is highly regarded with the level of its innovations and growth, has been fine in the years gone by regarding some issues. The problems have mostly been on the issues of representation, especially on the side of women, minority groups, and other sociological groups.

CTS dropped. Inevitably, recent years have seen advances, and from the last diversity in tech statistics, some positive and negative effects are also present. Studies reveal that in the tech industry, only 2.3% of the workforce identifies as LGBTQ+, indicating that individuals belonging to sexual minorities are severely underrepresented. For these reasons, there is still hope. More and more organisations are implementing strategies for these issues, and some are even investing millions of dollars in them. To illustrate, in the case of tech firms like Google and Microsoft, they have spent millions of dollars on diversity outreach to hire and retain people who belong to minorities. Ladies and gentlemen, if we wish to show the industry's progress, we must address the statistical aspect as well, for it is necessary to create an industry that balances and supports everyone who participates.

As of 2019, most employees in selected tech companies were male. Biotech company 23andMe was ranked first with ** percent female employees, the only company on the list to feature a majority female workforce. Airbnb was ranked second with ***** percent female employees. Hardware-focused companies Intel, Cisco, and Nvidia closed the ranking with less than ** percent female workforce each. One female to every two males in U.S. tech industry     The majority of employees in the U.S. tech industry are male. Round about a third of all employees in tech occupations in the United States are women – Washington D.C., or the District of Columbia, was the state with the greatest tech gender balance in the U.S., with close to ** percent of tech employees there being female in 2019. In general, females also earn less than their male counterparts: males in the U.S. earn around ****** U.S. dollars on average more than females. Types of tech employment    The IT sector employment includes professionals from various sub-fields, such as, technology manufacturing, telecommunications and internet services, software publishing, etc. The worldwide full-time employment in the ICT sector is forecast to grow by around *********** in the next four years. Full-time employees represent close to*** percent of all IT workers worldwide. Other types of employment include outsourced, contractor, or part-time workers.

One of the biggest barriers for all women in the tech industry who aspire to be promoted is the overall unclear path forward, according to ** and ** percent of women of color and white women in tech, respectively. It is noteworthy to mention that women of color in tech feel more overall barriers to promotion than white women, especially when it comes to gender bias, racial bias, and lack of trust in ability.

According to BairesDev, half of the women working in tech worldwide had a bachelor degree. However, nearly a quarter of women employed in the tech industry in 2021 only graduated school.

Over ** percent of the surveyed women in the global tech industry feel that in order for organizations and the overall industry to encourage more women into the field, there must be equal pay initiatives, there must be a way to ensure that the industry retains talented women and recruit them as ambassadors, and there must be more female tech speakers at high profile industry events. These three components are considered crucial to encouraging more women into tech as of 2019.
