As of December 31st, 2024, Uber reported around ** million monthly subscribers to its premium membership service Uber One, which allows users to benefit from free delivery on Uber Eats, discounted service fees, and premium services across Uber's other operating segments like ride-hailing and freight. DoorDash, on the other hand, reported that its premium membership services, DashPass and Wolt+, had more than ** million subscribers at the end of 2024. Market dominance and global expansion DoorDash has emerged as the undisputed leader in the U.S. food delivery market, controlling*********** of the market share as of March 2024. The company's app was downloaded over ** million times in the U.S. in 2024, significantly outpacing Uber Eats' ** million downloads. DoorDash's success extends beyond its home market, as it ranked as the sixth most downloaded food delivery app worldwide in 2024, following its acquisition of European player Wolt. Competition and expansion As companies vie for market share, expansion strategies are becoming increasingly important. DoorDash, for instance, has shown significant year-over-year growth, generating approximately **** billion U.S. dollars in revenues in 2024. The company has also set its sights on the European market, acquiring Wolt in a deal worth over eight billion U.S. dollars. This move positions DoorDash to compete in Europe, which accounts for ** percent of online food delivery users globally. As the industry evolves, premium subscription services like Uber One and DashPass may play a crucial role in customer retention and market dominance.
By the end of 2024, the number of Duolingo paid subscribers rose to 9.5 million worldwide, up by around 43 percent year-over-year. Duolingo is a language-learning website and mobile application that allows users to join language courses for free, or subscribe to gain access to premium features and functionalities. In 2023, subscriptions generated 76 percent of the company's revenues, followed by advertising revenue with a share of nine percent.
According to a Chinese consumer survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in May 2021, about 53 percent of male respondents had subscribed to video-on-demand (SVOD) services compared to 45 percent among females. The survey found out that iQiyi and Tencent Video (or WeTV) were the most popular SVOD platforms among respondents in China.
In 2023, 49 percent of individuals responding to a survey in Sweden reported subscribing to a daily newspaper, down by three percentage points from the previous year. The number remains far off the nearly 60 percent recorded a decade earlier.
Disney+ has experienced remarkable growth since its launch in November 2019, reaching around 125 million global subscribers in the first quarter of 2025. The streaming service's rapid ascent is particularly noteworthy given that it took Netflix, the current market leader, about a decade to achieve similar customer numbers in a less competitive landscape. Disney's biggest streaming competitor Despite its impressive subscriber base, Disney+ faces stiff competition in the streaming market, particularly among younger viewers. As of October 2023, Netflix remained the most-watched subscription video-on-demand service among U.S. children, capturing 34 percent of the audience, with Disney+ following at 31 percent. To address profitability challenges and retain customers, Disney has implemented strategies such as introducing extra member pricing in various countries, with costs ranging from 3.58 U.S. dollars in Hong Kong to 6.67 U.S. dollars in Italy. Market adaptation In response to the evolving streaming landscape, Disney has adjusted its pricing strategy. In late 2024, the company once again increased its monthly subscription prices for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ in the United States. This move followed significant improvements in the provider's direct-to-consumer streaming segment, with operating losses decreasing substantially between 2022 and 2024. Disney's DTC entertainment business, for example, reported an income of about 143 million U.S. dollars in 2024 after years of making losses, demonstrating that Disney's efforts to achieve profitability seemed to have paid off.

The HANPP Collection: Human Appropriation of Net Primary Productivity as a Percentage of Net Primary Productivity represents a map identifying regions in which human consumption of NPP is greatly in excess of production by local ecosystems. Humans appropriate net primary productivity through the consumption of food, paper, wood and fiber, which alters the composition of the atmosphere, levels of biodiversity, energy flows within food webs and the provision of important ecosystem services. Net primary productivity (NPP), the net amount of solar energy converted to plant organic matter through photosynthesis, can be measured in Units of elemental carbon and represents the primary food energy source for the world's ecosystems.
In the third quarter of 2023, the number of music streaming subscribers worldwide amounted to 713 million, up from 616 million at the end of the second quarter of 2022. Paid music streaming subscriptions have become the norm for many music fans, and the market has seen consistently impressive increases in subscriber numbers over the last few years. Recent forecasts show however that whilst both subscriber numbers and revenue are expected to continue to rise, growth will slow down in the near future. Changes can already be seen from 2016 onwards. Year-on-year music streaming revenue growth was 65.1 percent worldwide, but fell by more than 20 percent in 2017 and was just 11 percent in 2022It is expected that the U.S. and the UK will continue to be the biggest streaming markets in years to come, but reports also show that Brazil, India, China, and MENA countries will catch up over the next decade and rank among the top global markets by 2026. Other changes to the market include a growing focus on podcasts, which have more potential than many music buffs may realize. Music streaming and podcasts Several companies have reaped the benefits of consumers’ growing interest in on-the-go digital music consumption, especially market leader Spotify, which made its first profit in early 2019. Spotify has announced plans to spend hundreds of millions on podcasting, hoping to capitalize on the potential podcasts have to generate ad revenue and plotting to invest in exclusive content so podcasts fans go to Spotify first. But it is not only the companies offering digital music services who are making money from music streaming: consumers are, too (and some more than others). Whilst recording artists battle for streams to secure as many royalty payments as possible, the lesser-known beneficiaries of music streaming services are, in fact, podcast curators. A 2019 report showed that podcast curators with an average audience of 20 thousand listeners per weekly podcast would need just 80 thousand streams per month to generate an income of around 6,500 U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, major record label artists would need over seven million streams of their content to earn the same amount.

A gravity core (GC12) was collected from a depth of 990.5 mbsl within the Capricorn Channel, southern Great Barrier Reef (GBR). The percentage of CaCO3 in samples collected from different depths were analysed, along with other parameters, to determine changes in carbonate mineralogy and terrestrial influx. Levels of CaCO3% exhibit an higher percentage of >60% during the middle of Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3, levels similar to those seen in MIS 1. Throughout MIS 2 and during the glacial termination the CaCO3% remains relatively constant at ~60%. CaCO3 drops to 50% prior to a possible Antarctic cold reversal (between 14 ka BP and 12 ka BP) at 80cm in the core, before recovering to the 65-70% in the Holocene again.
