    DOH SUSPENDED ITS NCOVTRACKER as of April 9, 2020 . No updates until its restored.

    Context

    The number of corona cases is starting to rapidly reaching more than a hundred cases yesterday. Following what is happening with other countries, we expect the confirmed cases to rise exponentially. I believe that gathering granular data for analysis will help researchers better prepare for pandemics like this in the future.

    I have not yet seen a publicly available and easy to access dataset for the Phillipines yet, so I decided to generate my own using data from the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) uses for their Ncov Dashboard https://ncovtracker.doh.gov.ph/

    I plan to query the dashboard to see the evolution of cases over time as well as adding supplementary information over time.

    Content

    The DOH uses a public arcgis backend for their NCOV dashboard - which allowed me to query the API for information about the cases. You can see the script I used in the attached github repo's main.py.

    Right now the dataset only has the known cases in the Philippines cases_ph.csv. It includes the following information 1. the case number 2. gender 3. age 4. nationality 5. residence (city in PH) 6. Hospital Facility & GPS coordinates of hospital 7. Status & symptoms (which may change over time) 8. When the data was queried and which version of the data did it come from.

    The Dataset is supplemented by the Daily PDF release of the DOH which inculdes 1. Date of onset of Symptops 2. Date of Admission 3. Detailed Travel & Exposure History

    This is parsed by Camelot PDF reader and combined with the API data to generate the final csv. These pdfs are copied in the PDF subfolder of the Github Repository.

    The outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China, saw infection cases spread throughout the Asia-Pacific region. By April 13, 2024, India had faced over 45 million coronavirus cases. South Korea followed behind India as having had the second highest number of coronavirus cases in the Asia-Pacific region, with about 34.6 million cases. At the same time, Japan had almost 34 million cases. At the beginning of the outbreak, people in South Korea had been optimistic and predicted that the number of cases would start to stabilize. What is SARS CoV 2?Novel coronavirus, officially known as SARS CoV 2, is a disease which causes respiratory problems which can lead to difficulty breathing and pneumonia. The illness is similar to that of SARS which spread throughout China in 2003. After the outbreak of the coronavirus, various businesses and shops closed to prevent further spread of the disease. Impacts from flight cancellations and travel plans were felt across the Asia-Pacific region. Many people expressed feelings of anxiety as to how the virus would progress. Impact throughout Asia-PacificThe Coronavirus and its variants have affected the Asia-Pacific region in various ways. Out of all Asia-Pacific countries, India was highly affected by the pandemic and experienced more than 50 thousand deaths. However, the country also saw the highest number of recoveries within the APAC region, followed by South Korea and Japan.

    Description

    The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has exposed many systemic vulnerabilities in many countries’ health system, disaster preparedness, and adequate response capabilities. With the early lack of data and information about the virus and the many differing local-specific factors contributing to its transmission, managing its spread had been challenging. The current work presents a modified Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Recovered compartmental model incorporating intervention protocols during different community quarantine periods. The COVID-19 reported cases before the vaccine rollout in Davao City, Philippines, are utilized to obtain baseline values for key epidemiologic model parameters. The probable secondary infections (i.e., time-varying reproduction number) among other epidemiological indicators were computed. Results show that the cases in Davao City were driven by the transmission rates, positivity proportion, latency period, and the number of severely symptomatic patients. This paper provides qualitative insights into the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 along with the government’s implemented intervention protocols. Furthermore, this modeling framework could be used for decision support, policy making, and system development for the current and future pandemics.

    As of May 2, 2023, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been confirmed in almost every country in the world. The virus had infected over 687 million people worldwide, and the number of deaths had reached almost 6.87 million. The most severely affected countries include the U.S., India, and Brazil.

    COVID-19: background information COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that had not previously been identified in humans. The first case was detected in the Hubei province of China at the end of December 2019. The virus is highly transmissible and coughing and sneezing are the most common forms of transmission, which is similar to the outbreak of the SARS coronavirus that began in 2002 and was thought to have spread via cough and sneeze droplets expelled into the air by infected persons.

    Naming the coronavirus disease Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that can be transmitted between animals and people, causing illnesses that may range from the common cold to more severe respiratory syndromes. In February 2020, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses and the World Health Organization announced official names for both the virus and the disease it causes: SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, respectively. The name of the disease is derived from the words corona, virus, and disease, while the number 19 represents the year that it emerged.
