    Description

This data identifies current as well as proposed zoning and land use designations that are adopted by ordinances for unincorporated Pierce County. Zoning for cities is not included in this dataset. Zones are adopted by ordinances with specific technicalities for each community. Land Use designations offer a broad spectrum of allowable uses within a community. It is used to create a Comprehensive Plan Map or used for a Generalized Proposed Land Use Map or GPLUM. This dataset is also used to create the Land Use Designations theme, which covers proposed zoning use. The meaning of proposed is that the property might not be currently used for the purpose stated. It should be noted that Council adopted amendments to land use designations/zoning that will be effective at the beginning of 2006. Also, the Council is in the process of adopting the Mid-County Community Plan which amends land use designations/zoning as well. The Cities polygons found in the zoning data does not necessarily match the current cities boundaries. This is because the zoning data is updated once a year per the "Pierce County Comprehensive Plan" and does not allow for changes to be made during the year. The Comprehensive Plan is generally updated in November and generally becomes effective the following March. Use the "Cities in Pierce County" data set to determine current city boundaries. City boundaries can change more often than the current adopted Pierce County Zoning data. The zoning data contains the "Cities in Pierce County" boundaries at the time that the Pierce County Zoning was adopted. When determining the current zoning of a parcel near a city, the current "Cities in Pierce County" data set needs to be reviewed. Zoning codes for parcels within incorporated cities are determined by the city that the parcel is within. DATA LINKED FROM PIERCE COUNTY OPEN DATA PORTAL - Clipped by City of PuyallupSee the metadata and original layer hereAbstract:This is a comprehensive building address point layer for Pierce County, Washington. Every unique house number has a point located within the building footprint of the addressed structure (where possible). Multi-unit structures, mobile home parks, and buildings with the same street address are further identified by mailstop in the attribute table. Some vacant parcels may or may not have an assigned temporary address point. A permanent address will be assigned to a vacant parcel if a permitted structure is built on that parcel. In unincorporated Pierce County, the address points were created individually by a team of technicians based on scanned address maps from the Planning Department and Assessor-Treasurer's Department site address data. For incorporated areas, source data was gathered either in the form of address points, tabular data, or we visited the city and took photos of their paper maps, then created points based on those photographs. Pierce County began construction of this data in 2008, and in the intervening years the data has been constantly refined through field inspection and review using various imagery source such as Google StreetView. Please be aware this data is constantly being updated and is only a snapshot at any given time. Data is provided to Pierce County by many jurisdictional sources throughout the County, and it may be neither complete or 100% accurate. If an error is found please contact the jurisdiction first to discuss the error.Purpose:The Address Point dataset is intended to improve emergency response, County business applications and processes, and provide a dependable address source County-wide. This dataset will also be used to enhance geocoding services.

    Description

The Tacoma, WA Meter Urban Land Cover (MULC) dataset was generated from 1-meter image pixel resolution data sourced from 2011 USDA National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) four band (red, green, blue and near infrared) aerial ortho-imagery. LiDAR point density data (9/m^2 point spacing), available for years 2010 and 2011, was used to map most areas of Pierce County, and supplemental LiDAR data, available for earlier years, was used to map area segments where 2010-2011 LiDAR data was not available. A 7-band stack consisting of 1-meter, four-band (red, green, blue, and near-infrared) aerial photography, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and lidar-derived intensity and height above ground was created and primarily used to classify land cover using Genie Pro automated feature extraction software. Several ancillary datasets, such as hydrographic and transportation feature data, were edited in ArcGIS and integrated into the classification workflow. The Tacoma, WA land cover dataset includes data for the Tacoma metropolitan area of Pierce County, WA, and encompasses a total approximate area of 1,995 square kilometers. The thematic landcover data is confined to areas included within the US Census Bureau's 2010 Urban Statistical area boundaries for Pierce County, WA, with an additional 1km buffer extension that include bits of Kitsap, King and Thurston Counties. The following seven land cover classes were mapped: Water, Impervious, Soil or Barren, Trees or Forest, Grass or Herbaceous, Woody Wetlands and Emergent Wetlands. Mapped water bodies were generated using combined high-resolution LiDAR and ancillary hydrological data. Integrated wetland features were derived using ancillary National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) polygon data (version 2), downloaded from the Unites States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Wetland Mapper web mapping service (https://www.fws.gov/wetlands/data/mapper.html). Metadata for the NWI wetlands data layer can be found at http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Data/Metadata.html. An accuracy assessment of the classified product, using 482 completely random and 46 (Soil/Barren) stratified random photo-interpreted land cover reference sample points yielded an overall user's accuracy (MAX) of 85.1 percent and a fuzzy user's accuracy (RIGHT) of 86.9 percent. For data workflow processing details see Overview Description section. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (http://enviroatlas.epa.gov/EnviroAtlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. Additional descriptive information about each attribute in this dataset can be found in its associated EnviroAtlas Fact Sheet (http://enviroatlas.epa.gov/EnviroAtlas/DataFactSheets).

    Description

The Fire District dataset was originally created by using the Assessor-Treasurer's (ATR) 2006 parcel records and have been maintained by the Auditors office since then. The parcel tax records contain information on which fire district receives taxes from that property. The ATR Cartography group performed a parcel based analysis to code parcels with the school and fire district information. Single polygons for each fire district were created by GIS staff consolidating the parcel polygons by removing right-of-ways, fixing anomalies and aligning boundaries to parcels or road centerlines, railroads and the center of rivers. Please contact the appropriate fire district for boundaries defined by legal description, as these are not legal or RESPONSE districts. These boundaries are approximations and are for general information purposes only.

Fire District boundary polygons throughout Pierce County. These are not legal boundaries or response districts. They are aligned to parcels and used by the Auditor's office for election purposes. Please read metadata for additional information (https://matterhorn.piercecountywa.gov/GISmetadata/pdbis_buildingaddress_public.html).
