This feature class includes wetlands from several different sources. Originally Parametirx field inventoried wetlands between July 2002 and April 2003 as a dataset deliverable for the Shoreline and Critical Areas (CAR) update. Since 2003 wetlands added were based upon wetland reports and digital data deliverable submitted to Development Services as land is developed or altered.

Wetlands are areas that are inundated or saturated by surface water or groundwater at a frequency and duration sufficient to support, and that under normal circumstances do support, a prevalence of vegetation typically adapted for life in saturated soil conditions. Maps are based on known wetlands verified via site inspection and permits, filled and non-jurisdictional wetlands based on permit records and/or site reviews, high probability areas are generally mapped based on aerial vegetation and contours.For Pierce County wetland information refer to the CWI Wetland dataset.
