    Description

In the first quarter of 2025, the value of exports from the United Kingdom amounted to approximately 227 billion British pounds, while imports to the country amounted to around 238 billion pounds, resulting in a trade deficit of around 10.6 billion pounds in this quarter. During this time period, the value of UK exports was highest in the fourth quarter of 2022, with the value of imports peaking in the third quarter of 2022. The UK's main trade partners Despite the UK leaving the EU in 2020 following the Brexit referendum of 2016, Europe remains the main destination for UK exports, with almost half of UK exports heading there in 2023. During the same year, just over 60 percent of imports came from European countries, compared with around 17.9 percent from countries in Asia, and 11.8 percent from the Americas. In terms of individual countries, the United States was the UK's leading export partner for both goods and services from the UK, while Germany was the main source of UK goods imports, and the U.S. for service imports. It is as yet unclear how the return of Donald Trump to the White House will impact UK/US trade relations, should the President follow through with threats made on the campaign trail to increase trade tariffs. Brexit rethink under Starmer? Although generally more pro-European than the previous government, the new Labour government, led by Keir Starmer, does not plan to rejoin the European Union, or the Single Market. Public opinion, while gradually turning against Brexit recently, has not coalesced around a particular trading relationship. In late 2023, a survey indicated that while 31 percent of British adults wanted to rejoin the EU, a further 30 percent wanted to simply improve relations with the EU, instead of rejoining. Just 11 percent of respondents wanted to join the single market but not the EU, while 10 percent were happy with the relationship as it was. At the start of 2025, after several months in office, the new government has not signalled any major change in direction regarding on this, but has broadly signalled it wants a better relationship with the EU.

    Description

ABSTRACT This paper aims to advance the debate on Multi-sectoral Thirlwall’s Law, including sectorial capital flows and its implications for the new Brazilian economy’s growth strategy, which aims to stimulate exports through diversification of products, the aggregation value and increased technology intensity of Brazilian exports. To this end, it develops a multi-sectoral model with sectorial capital flows and, as a result, are carried out some computer simulations considering the main sectors and economic partners of the country (China, United States and the Euro Block). The results suggest that the best strategy is to encourage specific sectors, that is, increase the participation of the sectors that the country has comparative advantage in relation to each of its trading partners (Manufactured - US, Semi-manufatured - Europe, Primary - China). Despite the results obtained in the simulation, the model templates proposed by Hausmann et al. (2004), can generate the acceleration of economic growth. Thus, the National Plan for Exports (2015-2018) should give preference to the expansion of incentives to sectors that have high ratios of elasticity in the sense of Thirlwall.

    Export Management Software Market Outlook

The Export Management Software Market is dynamically evolving, reflecting a notable market size of USD 2.8 billion in 2023 with projections indicating a robust growth trajectory towards USD 6.7 billion by 2032, sustained by a compelling CAGR of 10.2%. The growing globalization of trade practices, coupled with the increasing complexity of export regulations, is playing a pivotal role in driving the demand for effective export management solutions. In a world where international trade forms the backbone of many economies, ensuring seamless operations through sophisticated software solutions is increasingly becoming a necessity for businesses seeking to maintain a competitive edge in the global arena.

One of the primary growth factors propelling the Export Management Software Market is the significant rise in international trade volumes. As businesses expand their operations beyond domestic borders, there's a pressing need for systems that can efficiently manage export documentation, comply with international trade regulations, and streamline logistics. Export management software provides the necessary tools to automate these processes, reducing errors and ensuring faster shipment deliveries. Moreover, the integration capabilities of these platforms with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems enhance their appeal to businesses looking to optimize their supply chain management and improve operational efficiency.

Another crucial growth driver is the ever-evolving regulatory landscape governing international trade. With trade agreements constantly being negotiated and tariffs frequently adjusted, companies are under pressure to stay abreast of the latest compliance requirements. Export management software offers real-time updates and analytics that help businesses adhere to these regulations, thereby mitigating risks associated with non-compliance, such as hefty fines or shipment delays. Additionally, these solutions offer enhanced visibility into global supply chains, enabling firms to make informed decisions and maintain smooth operations in the face of regulatory changes.

The proliferation of cloud-based solutions also significantly contributes to the market's expansion. Cloud deployment offers numerous advantages, such as lower upfront costs, scalability, and easy access to software updates. This has led to an increased adoption of cloud-based export management solutions, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that may lack the infrastructure to support on-premises installations. By providing flexibility and reducing IT overheads, cloud solutions are democratizing access to advanced export management tools, enabling businesses of all sizes to compete on a global scale.

Regionally, North America leads the export management software market due to the high adoption rate of innovative technologies and the presence of major industry players. However, the Asia Pacific region is anticipated to exhibit the fastest growth during the forecast period, primarily driven by the burgeoning trade activities in emerging economies such as China and India. With the increasing focus on exports as a growth strategy, these markets are witnessing significant investments in technology to enhance trade efficiencies, thereby presenting lucrative opportunities for software vendors. Additionally, the European market continues to mature, with a strong emphasis on compliance and sustainability in trade practices.

    Component Analysis

The Export Management Software Market is typically segmented into software and services components, each playing a vital role in supporting the overall functionality and effectiveness of export management operations. Software, the core component, encompasses various modules designed to handle different facets of export operations, including document management, trade compliance, and logistics planning. This component is central to the market and is experiencing continuous innovation as vendors strive to incorporate advanced features such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance predictive capabilities and operational efficiency. The software segment's growth is driven by the increasing demand for automation in export processes, allowing companies to scale operations and reduce manual errors.

Services, the secondary component, complement the software by offering essential support functions such as implementation, system integration, training, and maintenance. As businesses adopt export management software, they often require expert guidance to ensure seamless integra

    Description

China was seen to have lowered its cement exports amid the environmental pollution problems for developing cement plants. In 2023, the export volume of cement and cement clinkers reached **** million metric tons, signaling a rebound despite previous reductions. In terms of net weight, Turkey, Japan, and Pakistan were the leading cement export countries in 2023. The rise and fallThe cement industry was much smaller before the economic reformation in China. In the *****, several state-owned cement producers were established to integrate cement plants and boost production. The People’s Republic gradually became the biggest cement producer in the world, contributing over two billion metric tons of annual production since 2011. However, in 2013 the government announced plans to ban the cement capacity expansion amid growing public concerns of air pollution and electricity shortages. Since then, a series of cement plants were closed, turning China into a cement importing nation by the end of 2017, compared to its previous position as a global leader in the industry. A new phaseDespite these restrictions on capacity expansion, China still managed to be the third-largest cement exporter to the U.S., and the fifth largest in the world in 2018. Today, the Chinese cement sector seems to be better positioned to face the industrial changes compared to two years back. In fact, in 2020, the cement manufacturer Anhui Conch recorded over 12 percent annual growth in revenue, reaching over *** billion yuan. That same year, another market leader- China National Building Material (CNBM) reported cement and clinker sales of almost *** million tons. Furthermore, experts estimate that the Belt and Road Initiative which focuses on infrastructure development in *** countries would also help the industrial overcapacity issues in China.

Export Package Testing Service Market Outlook

The global export package testing service market size was estimated to be USD 3.6 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 6.2 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2024 to 2032. The increasing globalization of trade and stringent packaging regulations are major drivers for the growth of this market. The need to ensure the safety and integrity of goods during transit has become paramount, thereby escalating the demand for package testing services.

One of the primary growth factors driving the market is the rise in e-commerce and international trade. With more businesses operating globally and selling products overseas, there is a heightened need to ensure that packages can withstand the rigors of long-distance transport. This trend is particularly pronounced in sectors such as consumer electronics and pharmaceuticals, where product integrity is critical. The increase in disposable income and urbanization in emerging markets has also contributed to the surge in e-commerce, further propelling the need for rigorous export package testing services.

Advancements in packaging materials and technologies are also significantly contributing to the market's growth. Innovations such as smart packaging and sustainable materials require specialized testing to meet international standards. Companies are investing in research and development to create packaging that is not only effective but also environmentally friendly. This has led to an increase in demand for testing services that can ensure new materials meet the required safety and durability standards, thereby supporting market expansion.

Regulatory frameworks and standards set by international organizations like the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) are another critical factor driving market growth. Compliance with these standards is mandatory for businesses looking to export their products, thus creating a continuous demand for testing services. The guidelines ensure that packages can resist various types of stress during transit, including vibration, compression, and shock, making compliance a key driver for the market.

In the context of global trade, the introduction of an Emergency Package has become increasingly relevant. This package is designed to address unforeseen disruptions in the supply chain, ensuring that goods reach their destination safely and on time. Such measures are crucial in today’s volatile market environment, where unexpected events can significantly impact delivery schedules and product integrity. The Emergency Package includes rapid response strategies and contingency plans that are vital for maintaining the flow of goods across borders. By incorporating these strategies, companies can mitigate risks associated with delays and damages, thereby enhancing their resilience in the face of emergencies.

Regionally, North America and Europe are the leading markets due to stringent regulatory requirements and a well-established e-commerce infrastructure. However, significant growth is also expected in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by rapid industrialization and increasing exports. The growing focus on quality assurance and regulatory compliance in countries like China and India is anticipated to spur the demand for export package testing services, contributing to the market's overall growth.

    Service Type Analysis

In the service type segment, vibration testing is a crucial component of the export package testing service market. Vibration testing is essential for determining the ability of a package to withstand the vibrations it will encounter during transit. This type of testing is particularly important for fragile and sensitive items such as electronics and medical devices. As these industries continue to grow, so does the demand for vibration testing services. Additionally, the development of more sophisticated vibration testing equipment is making these services more accurate and reliable, further driving market growth.

Drop testing is another significant segment within the service type category. Drop testing simulates the impact a package might experience if it is accidentally dropped during handling. This type of testing is crucial for ensuring that the contents of a package remain intact and undamaged. The rise in online shopping has led to an increase in the number of packages being ha

    Description

This study aims to investigate whether combining forecasts generated from different models can improve forecast accuracy rather than individual models using the hierarchical time series. Various approaches of hierarchical forecasting have been considered; a bottom-up, top-down, and an optimal combination approach. Autoregressive moving averages (ARIMA) and exponential smoothing (ETS) were used as forecasting models in creating forecasting for all levels in the hierarchy to show the effect of different forecasting methods for each hierarchical model. The results indicated that the Minimum Trace Sample estimator (MinT-Sample) and the bottom-up approaches with the ARIMA model have good predictive performance than other approaches. Moreover, the forecasts from the MinT-Sample and bottom-up approaches were combined using five different combining methods. The experimental results showed that the (AC) method is superior to all other combining methods and more accurate than other individual models at level zero (international total trade in Egypt) and level one (total exports, and total imports). So, combining forecasts generated from different models by hierarchical time series leads to more accurate forecasting of the value of imports and exports which will improve the overall international trade performance, and that is through using the forecasting values of imports and exports to plan for improving the trade balance and drawing up a more efficient production policy. Finally, the study recommends using hierarchical forecasting methods in the areas of international trade, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry could adopt the results of this study to produce precise forecasts for international trade. Moreover, the results of this study are to be a guide for the researchers to apply these approaches in other fields to improve the performance of forecasting.
