Public Land Survey SystemThis feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the Bureau of Land Management data, displays the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) in the United States. Per BLM, "The BLM is required to perform cadastral surveys on all federal interest and Indian lands. As part of survey work, the BLM maintains an essential land grid, known as the rectangular survey system or Public Land Survey System (PLSS), which is the basis for identifying legal descriptions of land parcels."PLSS Township 7N 22EData downloaded: October 17, 2023Data source: BLM National Public Land Survey System PolygonsNGDAID: 10 (BLM National PLSS Public Land Survey System Polygons)OGC API Features Link: (Public_Land_Survey_System - OGC Features) copy this link to embed it in OGC Compliant viewersFor more information: About the Public Land Survey SystemSupport documentation: BLM National PLSS Public Land Survey System PolygonsFor feedback please contact: ArcGIScomNationalMaps@esri.comNGDA Data SetThis data set is part of the NGDA Cadastre Theme Community. Per the Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC), Cadastre is defined as the "past, current, and future rights and interests in real property including the spatial information necessary to describe geographic extents. Rights and interests are benefits or enjoyment in real property that can be conveyed, transferred, or otherwise allocated to another for economic remuneration. Rights and interests are recorded in land record documents. The spatial information necessary to describe geographic extents includes surveys and legal description frameworks such as the Public Land Survey System, as well as parcel-by-parcel surveys and descriptions. Does not include federal government or military facilities."For other NGDA Content: Esri Federal Datasets
This Quarter Section feature class depicts PLSS Second Divisions . PLSS townships are subdivided in a spatial hierarchy of first, second, and third division. These divisions are typically aliquot parts ranging in size from 640 acres to 160 to 40 acres, and subsequently all the way down to 2.5 acres. The data in this feature class was translated from the PLSSSecondDiv feature class in the original production data model, which defined the second division for a specific parcel of land. Metadata
This data has been collected by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in New Mexico at the New Mexico State Office. The initial data source is the statewide Public Land Survey System (PLSS) coverage for the state of New Mexico, generated at the BLM New Mexico State Office. Additional data was onscreen-digitized from BLM Cadastral Survey Plats and Master Title Plats, or tablet-digitized from 1:24,000 paper maps. This revision reflects boundary adjustments made in the Albuquerque area to more accurately reflect boundaries as depicted on USGS 1:24,000 topographic maps. Note for Shapefiles: Shapefiles have been created from coverages using the "Export Coverage to Shapefile" function in ArcGIS 8.3. All occurrences of "#" and "-" in INFO item names are replaced with an underscore character. This includes COVER# and COVER-ID, which become "COVER_" and "COVER_ID". Additionally, the Shapefile format only allows 10 characters in item names, so long item names are truncated. To avoid duplicate names, the items are truncated and assigned consecutive numbers. For example, in a coverage called CITY_STREET the items "CITY_STREET#" and "CITY_STREET-ID" become "CITY_STRE" and "CITY_STR_1" .

LANDSURVEY_COUNTY_POLY_IN is a 1:24,000-scale polygon shapefile, originally with a projection of Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) North American Datum (NAD) 1983 zone 16. After republishing this shapefile by the IGIO, this data is with a projection of WGS84.This shapefile was derived from a predecessor coverage named "IN_LANDSURVEY." IN_LANDSURVEY is a digital representation of land survey features as represented on the USGS 1:24,000 digital raster graphic (DRG) series. ESRI ArcEdit 8.1 and ESRI ArcView 3.2 were used to extract the following shapefiles from IN_LANDSURVEY: LANDSURVEY_COUNTY_LINE_IN, LANDSURVEY_COUNTY_POLY_IN, LANDSURVEY_SECTIONS_LINE_IN, LANDSURVEY_SECTIONS_POLY_IN, LANDSURVEY_STATE_LINE_IN, LANDSURVEY_STATE_POLY_IN, LANDSURVEY_TOWNSHIPS_LINE_IN, and LANDSURVEY_TOWNSHIPS_POLY_IN.
The Kansas County Databases of the U.S. Public Land Survey System (PLSS) provide, for each of the 105 counties in Kansas, high quality digital representations of basic Kansas land divisions first established by the PLSS, primarily between the years of 1854 and 1877. They are derived from data contained in PLSS databases of the USGS 24K Digital Line Graph (DLG) series and data from the Kansas Cartographic Database (KCD) developed by the Kansas Geological Survey. All of the data is derived from USGS 7.5 minute quadrangles. Only minimal edge matching was performed between DLG databases. Features represented in the county databases include the basic point, line and area features established in the original Public Land Surveys of Kansas. Currently lacking from this collection is a complete representation of Indian land boundaries surveyed in Kansas as part of the original PLSS while those Indian lands were still excluded from the public lands. The data from the KCD was captured using in-house KGS software, GIMMAP (Geodata Interactive Management, Mapping and Production). Using Arc Macro Language (AML) files, DLG"s for individual quadrangles covering each county were imported into Arc/Info using the "dlgarc" command. The individual DLG"s were then merged and cleaned to form the county databases. This procedure was only possible after the original USGS DLG"s were reformatted to establish uniform numbers and sequences of attributes for all nodes, areas, and lines in the original USGS DLG"s.The full Kansas geospatial catalog is administered by the Kansas Data Access & Support Center (DASC) and can be found at the following URL: https://hub.kansasgis.org/

The polygon (vector) shapefiles represent Public Land Survey System (PLSS) sections, or 1-square mile areas of land, with information about Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and mineral use authorizations for plans of operations and notices. The land areas specified by BLM authorizations vary in size and orientation, and may cross one or more PLSS section boundaries. For spatial consistency, the information was aggregated to the square mile PLSS section boundary. The original source data from BLM Cases Recordation database (LR2000) were specific to the day they were generated (March 6, 2016) and subsequent data pulls will likely be different.
Shapefile Format –The second division of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is quarter, quarter-quarter, sixteenth or government lot division of the PLSS. The second and third divisions are combined into this feature class as an intentional de-normalization of the PLSS hierarchical data. The polygons in this feature class represent the smallest division to the sixteenth that has been defined for the first division. For example In some cases sections have only been divided to the quarter. Divisions below the sixteenth are in the Special Survey or Parcel Feature Class.
