    Description

The Digital Geologic Map of the Point Loma Quadrangle and area immediately west, California is composed of GIS data layers complete with ArcMap 9.3 layer (.LYR) files, two ancillary GIS tables, a Map PDF document with ancillary map text, figures and tables, a FGDC metadata record and a 9.3 ArcMap (.MXD) Document that displays the digital map in 9.3 ArcGIS. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: California Division of Mines and Geology. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation sections(s) of this metadata record (polm_metadata.txt; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/cabr/nrdata/geology/gis/polm_metadata.xml). All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.1. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm). The GIS data is available as a 9.3 personal geodatabase (polm_geology.mdb), and as shapefile (.SHP) and DBASEIV (.DBF) table files. The GIS data projection is NAD83, UTM Zone 11N. That data is within the area of interest of Cabrillo National Monument.

    Description

The LOMA point layer indicates coordinates for Letters of Map Amendment, which can affect flood zone determination without a map change. Please be aware that LOMA point layer is provided ‘as is’ and that there are several issues that must be considered before using this information. The first is its positional accuracy. Where the point is shown on the map may, or may not, be totally accurate as there are a variety of methods that can be used to translate a mailing address into a geographic coordinate (geocoding). The second is the completeness of the dataset. This point layer only includes LOMAs that have a coordinate associated with them. There are a number of LOMAs that have been processed by FEMA which do not have any type of a coordinate associated with them and those LOMAs are not included within this data. The contents of the LOMA shapefile are derived from user input in eLOMA(within the MIP) as well as SOMA(also within the MIP), which is converted by the FME model into the shapefile. This process runs on a nightly basis automatically during the week. In addition, there is an https location where the public can download the LOMA Point shapefile and the metadata upon request from MIP help.

For use in the environmental injustices study of Baltimore relating to patterns of environmental disamenties in relation to low income/minority communities.

       Description

This feature class layer is a point dataset of authorizing ordinances from the Baltimore City Council and Mayor from 1930 until 1999 concerning identified environmental disamentities. The data was gathered from records from the City Council since 1930 relating to decisions concerning land-uses considered to be environmental disamentities and is to be used to examine environmental injustices involving low income/minority communities in Baltimore. To examine if environmental injustices exist in Baltimore, this point layer will be overlayed with race/income data to determine if patterns of inequity exist. Points were placed manually using the associated addresses from the Ordinance_master dataset and using ISTAR 2004 data in conjunction with Baltimore parcel data. The Ordinance_ID number associated with each point relates to its appeal number from the City Council. Multiple points on the data layer have the same Ordinance_ID. This point layer can be joined with the Ordinance_master data layer based on the field "Ordinance_ID" and using the relationship "Ordinance_point_relationship".

Tags Social system, socio-economic resources, justice, BES, Environmental Justice, Environmental disamentities, Zoning Board of Appeals Summary For use in the environmental injustices study of Baltimore relating to patterns of environmental disamenties in relation to low income/minority communities. Description This feature class layer is a point dataset of appeals to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) from 1938 to 1999 concerning identified environmental disamentities. The data was gathered from records from the Zoning Board of Appeals decisions since 1931 relating to environmental disamentities and to be used to examine environmental injustices involving low income/minority communities in Baltimore. To see if environmental injustices exist in Baltimore, this point layer will be overlayed with race/income data to determine if patterns of inequity exist. Points were placed manually using the associated addresses from the ZBA_master dataset. The ID number associated with each point is related to its appeal number from the Zoning Board of Appeals. Multiple points on the data layer have the same ZBA_ID number, making it a one-to-many relationship. This layer can be joined with the ZBA_master table using the "ZBA_point_relationship" and the field "ZBA_ID". Credits UVM Spatial Analysis Lab Use limitations None. Description

An ArcGIS shapefile layer showing the extent of all extant and relic Adelie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) colonies at Whitney Point, Windmill Islands, February 2006. The field 'Status' describes each polygon as extant, relic or maximum. Extant refers to the area used by breeding birds in the summer 2005/06. Maximum refers to the historic maximal extent of the colony. Relic refers to any colony which was not occupied by any breeding pairs during 2005/06.

Positional accuracy is approx. 1-2 m, after accounting for dGPS errors and errors in identification of the boundaries of colonies. Mapping was conducted after the end of the breeding season, so boundaries were identified as the extent of nest pebbles/fresh faeces, and it was considered that they could be reliably identified to within 0.5m.

Data were acquired using a Trimble Pro XH differential GPS. This work was completed as part of ASAC project 1219 (ASAC_1219).

Also for this project, three aerial photographs of Whitney point showing the adelie penguin colonies and taken on 17 December 1990 were georeferenced.

These aerial photographs are film ANTC1219 run 54 frames 21 to 23.

Work on this project also utilised a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) created for Shirley Island. See the metadata record, 'A digital elevation model (DEM) and orthophoto of the Whitney Point area of the Windmill Islands, Antarctica' for more information (linked below).

Since the 2005/06 summer was a low-ice year the opportunity was also taken to survey with differential GPS a section of coastline about 230 metres long east of Whitney Point on Clark Peninsula. This section of coastline was ice free and accessible. The data was collected with differential GPS on 10 February 2006.

    Description

Spatial data layers of stream crossing point locations, cross-section polyline, centerline polyline, and bank polyline shapefiles have been developed for selected stream crossings in the Squannacook River basin, Massachusetts. The spatial data and calculated attribute values are model input data for U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) hydraulic models. The stream crossing point locations were derived from the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaboration (NAACC) database. The stream channel cross-sections, centerlines, and bank polylines were derived using automated methods in a Geographic Information System (GIS) using ArcGIS Pro and Python programming language. The polyline shapefiles are Z-enabled and have elevation data derived from Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) Digital Elevation Models (DEM) for Z-coordinate vertex values in units of feet. The polyline shapefiles are also M-enabled and have profile stationing values for the M-coordinate vertex values in units of feet. The automated GIS processes delineated a series of stream channel cross-sections along lidar-derived stream centerlines and have stream channel bathymetry estimated from Massachusetts bankfull channel geometry equations (Bent and Waite, 2013). The bankfull equations were also used to derive stream bank polylines. This data release contains the following shapefiles in the Spatial_Data_Layers.zip file: 1. Stream_Crossing_Locations.shp - Esri point shapefile derived from the NAACC stream crossing database. 2. Stream_Crossing_Watersheds.shp - Esri polygon shapefile of lidar-derived watershed boundaries that estimate the upstream drainage area for each stream crossing location. 3. Model_Cross_Sections.shp - Esri Z- and M-enabled polyline shapefile of the cross-section data used for hydraulic model input. 4. Model_Flowpaths.shp - Esri Z- and M-enabled polyline shapefile of the stream centerline and stream bank line data used for hydraulic model input.
