    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) Population (Male), (b) Population (Female), and (c) Gender Ratio (Males per 100 Females), we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau across 18 age groups, ranging from under 5 years to 85 years and above. These age groups are described above in the variables section. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the population of Poland by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for Poland. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Poland by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in Poland. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for Poland.

    Key observations

Largest age group (population): Male # 25-29 years (37) | Female # 5-9 years (23). Source: U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates.

    Scope of gender :

Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. The question is intended to capture data for biological sex, not gender. Respondents are supposed to respond with the answer as either of Male or Female. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis.

    Variables / Data Columns

    • Age Group: This column displays the age group for the Poland population analysis. Total expected values are 18 and are define above in the age groups section.
    • Population (Male): The male population in the Poland is shown in the following column.
    • Population (Female): The female population in the Poland is shown in the following column.
    • Gender Ratio: Also known as the sex ratio, this column displays the number of males per 100 females in Poland for each age group.

    Description

Poland's population has been aging since 1950, with the median age for both men and women showing a consistent upward trend. In 2023, Polish women reached a median age of **** years, a stark contrast to the **** years recorded in 1950. Declining population and life expectancy The aging population trend is accompanied by a decline in overall population numbers. Poland's population is projected to decrease to approximately **** million by 2100, down from over **** million in 2023. Despite this decline, life expectancy has been increasing, particularly for women. In 2023, the average life expectancy for Polish women reached ** years, a remarkable 20-year increase from 1950. Population structure. Population structure As life expectancy increases, the structure of the Polish population is changing. The number of people of post-working age has steadily increased, while the number of children under two years of age has fallen. This trend is reflected in the rising number of two-person households without children, which rose by nearly ** percent between 2005 and 2024.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Poland, OH population pyramid, which represents the Poland population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Poland, OH, is 27.8.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Poland, OH, is 40.2.
    • Total dependency ratio for Poland, OH is 68.1.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Poland, OH is 2.5.

    Description

WorldPop produces different types of gridded population count datasets, depending on the methods used and end application. Please make sure you have read our Mapping Populations overview page before choosing and downloading a dataset.

A description of the modelling methods used for age and sex structures can be found in "https://pophealthmetrics.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1478-7954-11-11" target="_blank"> Tatem et al and Pezzulo et al. Details of the input population count datasets used can be found here, and age/sex structure proportion datasets here.
Both top-down 'unconstrained' and 'constrained' versions of the datasets are available, and the differences between the two methods are outlined here. The datasets represent the outputs from a project focused on construction of consistent 100m resolution population count datasets for all countries of the World structured by male/female and 5-year age classes (plus a <1 year class). These efforts necessarily involved some shortcuts for consistency. The unconstrained datasets are available for each year from 2000 to 2020.
The constrained datasets are only available for 2020 at present, given the time periods represented by the building footprint and built settlement datasets used in the mapping.
Data for earlier dates is available directly from WorldPop.

In 2023, the majority of Ukrainians in Poland were women. Since 2021, the share of Ukrainian men decreased sharply. While the share was ** percent in 2021, it dropped to ** percent in 2023. This could be related to the fact that Ukrainian men have basically not been allowed to leave the country since the expansion of the Russian invasion in 2022.

The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) male population, (b) female population and (b) total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Poland, NY population pyramid, which represents the Poland population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S.

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Poland, NY, is 41.4.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Poland, NY, is 19.7.
    • Total dependency ratio for Poland, NY is 61.0.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Poland, NY is 5.1.
