    Description

The data for this study were collected in order to examine the delivery of police services in selected neighborhoods. Performances of police agencies organized in different ways were compared as they delivered services to different sets of comparable neighborhoods. For Part 1, Citizen Debriefing Data, data were drawn from telephone interviews conducted with citizens who were involved in police-citizen encounters or who requested police services during the observed shifts. The file contains data on the citizens involved in observed encounters, their satisfaction with the delivered services, and neighborhood characteristics. This file includes variables such as the type of incident, estimated property loss, police response time, type of action taken by police, citizen satisfaction with the handling of the problem by police, reasons for dissatisfaction, the emotional state of the citizen during the encounter, whom the officers referred the citizen to for help, the citizen's prior contacts with police, and the citizen's education, age, sex, and total family income. Part 2, General Shift Information, contains data describing the shift (i.e., the eight-hour tour of duty to which the officers were assigned), the officers, and the events occurring during an observed shift. This file includes such variables as the total number of encounters, a breakdown of dispatched runs by type, the number of contacts with other officers, the number of contacts with non-police support units, officer discretion in taking legal action, and officer attitudes on patrol styles and activities. Part 3, Police Encounters Data, describes police encounters observed by the research team during selected shifts. It consists of information describing the officers' role in encounters with citizens observed during a shift and their demeanor toward the citizens involved. The file includes variables such as the type of encounter, how the encounter began, whether the citizens involved possessed a weapon, the encounter location, what other agencies were present during the encounter and when they arrived, police actions during the encounter, the role of citizens involved in the encounter, the demeanor of the officer toward the citizens during the encounter, actions taken by the citizens, which services were requested by the citizens, and how the observer affected the encounter. Part 4, Victimization Survey Data, examined citizen attitudes about the police and crime in their neighborhoods. The data were obtained through telephone interviews conducted by trained interviewers. These interviews followed a standard questionnaire designed by the project leaders. Variables include perceived risk of victimization, evaluations of the delivery of police services, household victimization occurring in the previous year, actions taken by citizens in response to crime, and demographic characteristics of the neighborhood.

    Description

The Police Station Facility feature class is one of 20 essential (critical) facility feature classes developed for and maintained by the Des Moines Area Regional GIS for the purpose of performing hazard risk assessments and loss estimation using GIS. The data is also appropriately used in preparing hazard mitigation plans, emergency response plans, and general maps. The data is not compatible for direct use in HAZUS-MH (www.fema.gov/hazus) but may be extracted and converted for use in HAZUS-MH using the Comprehensive Data Management System (CDMS) tools. Used in HAZUS-MH, the data provides a basis for estimating the damage to and resulting loss of functionality of essential facilities in a given flood, hurricane, and/or earthquake scenario. Thereby, the HAZUS-MH user can model the economic and physical impacts of a flood, hurricane, and/or earthquake scenario.

Calls for service dispatched to Mesa Police Patrol Officers through Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for the period 1/1/2017 - 12/31/2020. Calls are modified for public use, obfuscating the address number through rounding it to the 100 block. Note that these are calls for service and may not necessarily correspond to the data located in the Police Incidents dataset. Crimes reported in this data set have not been adjudicated in a court of law for final determination.

Sensitive crimes are listed but the address of their occurrence will NOT be included. In this way aggregate totals of crimes will be accurate, without providing sensitive information. Addresses where the following crime types occur will NOT be captured: Sexual abuse, Sexual assault, Suicide, Incest, Molestation of a child and Homicide.

Priority One (P1) Call: Life threatening or confrontations which may threaten life or safety of a person.

Priority Two (P2) Call: In progress crime that could result in a threat to injure or possible major property loss or immediate apprehension of a suspect. Accidents with injury or other traffic incidents that create a traffic hazard.

Priority Three (P3) Call: Minor in-progress/just occurred calls, where there is no threat of injury or major property loss.

Priority Four (P4) Call: Nuisance calls, civil standbys, delayed reports where reporting party (RP) is at public location.

Priority Five (P5) Call: Calls where a delay will not result in a crime occurring or the loss of an apprehension or an injured person not receiving aid.

What is Vision Zero? Vision Zero is a traffic safety policy that takes an ethical approach towards achieving safety for all road users. The goal is to achieve a reduction in the number of fatal and serious injury crashes to zero in Tempe, because no loss of life is acceptable. Data Driven Safety Policies Fatal and serious injury crashes are not “accidents” and are preventable. The City of Tempe is committed to reducing the number of fatal and serious injury crashes to zero. One death is too many. One serious injury is too many. This application explores Tempe's crash data which is collected by the Tempe Police Department and reported to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Traffic engineers use this data for network screening, which they can then use for diagnosing potential safety issues and implementing countermeasures to improve safety. Community Input Included in this application is an option for people from the community to add their own transportation safety concerns that the City of Tempe should be made aware of.
