Male and Female Population Under 5 Years, Male and Female Population over 85 years, Male and Female Total Population for Age Groups, Male and Female Population Between 5 and 9 years, Male and Female Population Between 10 and 14 years, Male and Female Population Between 15 and 19 years, Male and Female Population Between 20 and 24 years, Male and Female Population Between 25 and 29 years, Male and Female Population Between 30 and 34 years, Male and Female Population Between 35 and 39 years, and 9 more
    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) male population, (b) female population and (b) total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Georgia population pyramid, which represents the Georgia population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Georgia, is 29.0.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Georgia, is 21.6.
    • Total dependency ratio for Georgia is 50.6.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Georgia is 4.6.

    Description

The resilience of the population age structure of countries along the Belt and Road reflects the level of resilience of the population age structure of the countries along the Belt and Road, and the higher the value of the data, the stronger the resilience of the population age structure of the countries along the Belt and Road. The World Bank's statistical database was used to prepare the data on the resilience of population age structure, and the data on the proportion of children, the proportion of working-age population and the proportion of elderly population in the countries along the Belt and Road from 2000 to 2019 were used year by year. Based on the sensitivity and adaptability analysis, a comprehensive diagnosis was carried out to produce a resilience product for the age structure of the population. Please refer to the documentation for the methodology of preparing the data set. "The data set is an important reference for analysing and comparing the resilience of population age structures in countries along the Belt and Road.

    Description
    1. A changing environment directly influences birth and mortality rates, and thus population growth rates. However, population growth rates in the short-term are also influenced by population age-structure. Despite its importance, the contribution of age-structure to population growth rates has rarely been explored empirically in wildlife populations with long-term demographic data.

    2. Here, we assessed how changes in age-structure influenced short-term population dynamics in a semi-captive population of Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).

    3. We addressed this question using a demographic dataset of female Asian elephants from timber camps in Myanmar spanning 45 years (1970-2014). First, we explored temporal variation in age-structure. Then, using annual matrix population models, we used a retrospective approach to assess the contributions of age-structure and vital rates to short-term population growth rates with respect to the average environment.

    4. Age-structure was highly variabl...

    Description

This statistic depicts the age distribution in the United States from 2013 to 2023. In 2023, about 17.59 percent of the U.S. population fell into the 0-14 year category, 64.97 percent into the 15-64 age group and 17.43 percent of the population were over 65 years of age. The increasing population of the United States The United States of America is one of the most populated countries in the world, trailing just behind China and India. A total population count of around 320 million inhabitants and a more-or-less steady population growth over the past decade indicate that the country has steadily improved its living conditions and standards for the population. Leading healthier lifestyles and improved living conditions have resulted in a steady increase of the life expectancy at birth in the United States. Life expectancies of men and women at birth in the United States were at a record high in 2012. Furthermore, a constant fertility rate in recent years and a decrease in the death rate and infant mortality, all due to the improved standard of living and health care conditions, have helped not only the American population to increase but as a result, the share of the population younger than 15 and older than 65 years has also increased in recent years, as can be seen above.

    Description

1- Temporal fluctuations in growth rates can arise from both variation in age-specific vital rates and temporal fluctuations in age structure (i.e., the relative abundance of individuals in each age-class). However, empirical assessments of temporal fluctuations in age structure and their effects on population growth rate are rare. Most research has focused on understanding the contribution of changing vital rates to population growth rates and these analyses routinely assume that: (i) populations have stable age distributions, (ii) environmental influences on vital rates and age structure are stationary (i.e., the mean and/or variance of these processes does not change over time), and (iii) dynamics are independent of density. 2- Here we quantified fluctuations in age structure and assessed whether they were stationary for four populations of free-ranging vertebrates: moose (observed for 48 years), elk (15 years), tawny owls (15 years) and gray wolves (17 years). We also assessed the e...

R code is provided seperately for each of the following components:

    1. Data_collation_for_analysis_2.R Collating data from Anna and Geoffs datasets

    2. Skeleto_analysis_5.R - First uses regression modelling to explore factors correlated with variation in age

                       - Following Scheele et al. (2016) regression models with a poisson distribution

                       - Use bayesian non-linear regression to fit the Von Bertalanffy growth model to size-at-age data

                       - Plots male and female growth curves

                       - Uses catch curve approach to estimate survival from best fitting regression model following Scroggie (2012) but with bayesian implementation

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Sudan, TX population pyramid, which represents the Sudan population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S.

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Sudan, TX, is 44.5.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Sudan, TX, is 31.2.
    • Total dependency ratio for Sudan, TX is 75.7.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Sudan, TX is 3.2.

    Description

The age structure of Germany's population has changed significantly in recent decades. While roughly two-thirds of the population has fit into the 15-64 age bracket consistently since the 1960s, the share of those aged under 14 years has almost halved since this time while the share of those aged 65+ has doubled.
