    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Florida City population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Florida City across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Florida City was 12,582, a 0.49% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Florida City population was 12,644, a decline of 1.02% compared to a population of 12,774 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Florida City increased by 4,711. In this period, the peak population was 13,016 in the year 2020. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Variables measured
Hispanic White Population, Hispanic White Population as Percent of Total Population of cities in Florida, Hispanic White Population as Percent of Total Hispanic White Population of Florida
    Measurement technique
To measure the rank and respective trends, we initially gathered data from the five most recent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. We then analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on the required racial category classification, we calculated the rank. For geographies with no population reported for the chosen race, we did not assign a rank and excluded them from the list. It is possible that a small population exists but was not reported or captured due to limitations or variations in Census data collection and reporting. We ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories and do not rely on any ethnicity classification, unless explicitly required. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

The population estimates can be used for a variety of planning studies including statewide and regional transportation plan updates, subarea and corridor studies, and funding allocations for various planning agencies. The 2020 population estimates reported are based on the US Census Bureau 2020 Decennial Census. The 2021 population estimates are based on the population estimates developed by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) at the University of Florida. BEBR uses the decennial census count for April 1, 2020, as the starting point for state-level projections. More information is available from BEBR here. This dataset contains boundaries for all incorporated places (e.g., city, town, village) and each county’s unincorporated area in the State of Florida with 2020 census population and 2021 population estimates. Description

In Miami Beach, Florida, around 40,000 residents live in homes at risk to being flooded by 2060 due to rising sea levels. Florida has many cities that may be lost to coastal erosion as a result of sea level rise, as well as storm surges. The significance of sea level rise is particularly great for the many cities with high values of assets that are under threat.

    Variables measured
Hispanic Other Race Population, Hispanic Other Race Population as Percent of Total Population of cities in Florida, Hispanic Other Race Population as Percent of Total Hispanic Other Race Population of Florida

    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Panama City population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Panama City across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Panama City was 35,660, a 2.57% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Panama City population was 34,768, an increase of 1.73% compared to a population of 34,178 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Panama City decreased by 639. In this period, the peak population was 37,186 in the year 2016. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).
