    Description

Considering the number of people in an area can be a difficult task. The US Census Bureau provides a data product which takes the baseline values from the most recent Census (i.e., Census 2010), then adjusts for increases from new births, decreases from registered deaths, and whether migration has net increased or decreased the number of residents in the area-of-interest. The US Census Bureau Fact Finder provides the Annual population estimates values modeled from April 2010 to July 2017 for Nation, States, Counties, and Puerto Rico.

This file in this resource is the population estimate at the county/municipio spatial scale. The file uses LATIN1 encoding and decoding for the names of the municipios. These estimates can provide the baseline population measurement for economic considerations 2-3 months prior to Hurricane Irma and Maria making landfall.

These files are data products authored from the US Census Bureau. Please direct inquiries regarding the modeling method and retrieval of new annual population estimates from the US Census Bureau: https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?src=bkmk

    Description

2010 Census Tract data for the City of Redding Population data was obtained from the American Fact Finder website via downloading table P1 from PL 94-171 - 2010 Redistricting Data Summary File for the geographic exent of Shasta County. Data was downloaded as .csv file format then converted to be joined to the Block Group boundaries. PUBLIC LAW 94-171 AND THE 2010 CENSUS REDISTRICTING DATA PROGRAM Public Law 94-171, enacted in 1975, directs the Census Bureau to make special preparations to provide redistricting data needed by the 50 states.1 It specifies that within a year following Census Day, the Census Bureau must send the governor and legislative leadership in each state the data they need to redraw districts for the United States Congress and state legislature. To meet this legal requirement, the Census Bureau set up a program that affords state officials an opportunity before each decennial census to define the small areas for which they wish to receive census population totals for redistricting purposes. Officials may receive data for voting districts (e.g., election precincts, wards) and state house and senate districts, in addition to standard census geographic areas such as counties, cities, census tracts, and tabulation blocks. State participation in defining areas is voluntary and nonpartisan. For further information on P.L. 94-171 and the 2010 Census Redistricting Data Program, see <www.census.gov/rdo/about_the_program/>. SUBJECT CONTENT This product contains summary statistics on population and housing subjects derived from questions on the 2010 Census questionnaire. Population counts for the total population and for the population 18 years and over are presented in four tables: • A count of all persons by race. • A count of the population 18 years and over by race. • A count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race for all persons. • A count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race for the population 18 years and over.Data pertaining to Census can be located here.American Fact Finder data can be accessed here.

    How Are We Protecting Privacy?

Results for OnSIS and Statistics Canada variables are suppressed based on school population size to better protect student privacy. In order to achieve this additional level of protection, the Ministry has used a methodology that randomly rounds a percentage either up or down depending on school enrolment. In order to protect privacy, the ministry does not publicly report on data when there are fewer than 10 individuals represented.

      * Percentages depicted as 0 may not always be 0 values as in certain situations the values have been randomly rounded down or there are no reported results at a school for the respective indicator. * Percentages depicted as 100 are not always 100, in certain situations the values have been randomly rounded up.
The school enrolment totals have been rounded to the nearest 5 in order to better protect and maintain student privacy.

The information in the School Information Finder is the most current available to the Ministry of Education at this time, as reported by schools, school boards, EQAO and Statistics Canada. The information is updated as frequently as possible.

This information is also available on the Ministry of Education's School Information Finder website by individual school.

Descriptions for some of the data types can be found in our glossary.

School/school board and school authority contact information are updated and maintained by school boards and may not be the most current version. For the most recent information please visit: https://data.ontario.ca/dataset/ontario-public-school-contact-information.

    Footnotes

    Geographical boundaries

Statistical standard for geographic areas 2023 (updated December 2023) has information about geographic boundaries as of 1 January 2023. Address data from 2013 and 2018 Censuses was updated to be consistent with the 2023 areas. Due to the changes in area boundaries and coding methodologies, 2013 and 2018 counts published in 2023 may be slightly different to those published in 2013 or 2018.

    Subnational census usually resident population

The census usually resident population count of an area (subnational count) is a count of all people who usually live in that area and were present in New Zealand on census night. It excludes visitors from overseas, visitors from elsewhere in New Zealand, and residents temporarily overseas on census night. For example, a person who usually lives in Christchurch city and is visiting Wellington city on census night will be included in the census usually resident population count of Christchurch city.

    Caution using time series

Time series data should be interpreted with care due to changes in census methodology and differences in response rates between censuses. The 2023 and 2018 Censuses used a combined census methodology (using census responses and administrative data), while the 2013 Census used a full-field enumeration methodology (with no use of administrative data).

    About the 2023 Census dataset

For information on the 2023 dataset see Using a combined census model for the 2023 Census. We combined data from the census forms with administrative data to create the 2023 Census dataset, which meets Stats NZ's quality criteria for population structure information. We added real data about real people to the dataset where we were confident the people who hadn’t completed a census form (which is known as admin enumeration) will be counted. We also used data from the 2018 and 2013 Censuses, administrative data sources, and statistical imputation methods to fill in some missing characteristics of people and dwellings.

    Data quality

The quality of data in the 2023 Census is assessed using the quality rating scale and the quality assurance framework to determine whether data is fit for purpose and suitable for release. Data quality assurance in the 2023 Census has more information.

    Quality rating of a variable

The quality rating of a variable provides an overall evaluation of data quality for that variable, usually at the highest levels of classification. The quality ratings shown are for the 2023 Census unless stated. There is variability in the quality of data at smaller geographies. Data quality may also vary between censuses, for subpopulations, or when cross tabulated with other variables or at lower levels of the classification. Data quality ratings for 2023 Census variables has more information on quality ratings by variable.

Census usually resident population count concept quality rating

The census usually resident population count is rated as very high quality.

Census usually resident population count – 2023 Census: Information by concept has more information, for example, definitions and data quality.

    Using data for good

Stats NZ expects that, when working with census data, it is done so with a positive purpose, as outlined in the Māori Data Governance Model (Data Iwi Leaders Group, 2023). This model states that "data should support transformative outcomes and should uplift and strengthen our relationships with each other and with our environments. The avoidance of harm is the minimum expectation for data use. Māori data should also contribute to iwi and hapū tino rangatiratanga”.

    Confidentiality

The 2023 Census confidentiality rules have been applied to 2013, 2018, and 2023 data. These rules protect the confidentiality of individuals, families, households, dwellings, and undertakings in 2023 Census data. Counts are calculated using fixed random rounding to base 3 (FRR3) and suppression of ‘sensitive’ counts less than six, where tables report multiple geographic variables and/or small populations. Individual figures may not always sum to stated totals. Applying confidentiality rules to 2023 Census data and summary of changes since 2018 and 2013 Censuses has more information about 2023 Census confidentiality rules.

    Description

The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a sample survey of the population 16 years of age and over. The survey is conducted each month by the U.S. Census Bureau for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and provides comprehensive data on the labor force, the employed, and the unemployed, classified by such characteristics as age, sex, race, family relationship, marital status, occupation, and industry attachment. The information is collected by trained interviewers from a sample of about 60,000 households located in 754 sample areas. These areas are chosen to represent all counties and independent cities in the United States, with coverage in 50 States and the District of Columbia. The data collected are based on the activity or status reported for the calendar week including the 12th of the month. Earnings data are available for all workers, with data available by age, race, Hispanic or Latino ethnicity, sex, occupation, usual full- or part-time status, educational attainment, and other characteristics.

    Description

Users can generate tables, charts and maps or download data sets to gather information on the characteristics of housing and population in communities. Data is available for towns, cities, metropolitan areas, counties, states, regions, divisions and for the entire nation. Background The American Community Survey is developed and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. It is an ongoing survey, conducted annually, that provides information on population and housing. Communities can use information from the ACS to better understand how they are changing over time. Topics include, but are not limited to: aging, children, income, disability, education, mobility, relationships, social characteristics and housing values. User Functionality Use rs can access data in three ways. They can generate a variety of tables and maps from American Fact Finder portion of the website; they can gather historical and current data from the ACS File Transfer site; or they can download Public Use Microdata Sample files (samples of the actual responses on the ACS which provide information on population and housing characteristics). Data Notes The American Community Survey began in 1996 and is conducted in the United States and in Puerto Rico (The Puerto Rico Community Survey )annually. The most recent data has been released for 2009.

This data was compiled by the Washington Military Department on June 27, 2019. The Limited English Proficiency (LEP) information is summarized at the county level as well as at the census track/ county subdivision layer level. County level data was derived from the 2016 Office of Financial Management (OFM) study which provided an estimate of population with limited English proficiency at the state and county levels. The census tract data are derived from the 2015 census update and indicates language spoken at home and ability to speak English for those over five years old. All data displayed indicate a population of at least 1,000 or 5% of the population.LEPCountyv2 = Limited English Proficiency County version 2 – from OFM census dataLEPCSDv2 = Limited English Proficiency County Subdivision version 2 – data drawn from US Census 2010

    Description

The Australian Twittersphere is a longitudinal collection of tweets from a population of Twitter accounts which explicitly self-identify as Australian or having connection to Australia. A publication detailing the method used to determine this population is forthcoming. This dataset contains the rules for inclusion in the Australian Twittersphere which are derived by the population method. These rules were developed by the QUT Digital Observatory team in 2021, and then used to determine the Twitter accounts which were included in the Australian Twittersphere up until the collection ceased in 2023.

    To use these rules:

The rules file can be used with the twittersphere tool to filter a list of Twitter accounts down to those which match the rules and as such would have been suitable for inclusion in the Australian Twittersphere.

    File specification:

aus_ts_rules_2021-09-16.csv is a CSV file encoded as UTF-8, with commas as field separators and each value enclosed in double quotation marks. There is a header row with column titles at the start, and each subsequent row (10,940 in total) represents a single rule in the ruleset.

    Columns:

    include: 1, -1, or blank

1 indicates that this is a positive matching rule
-1 indicates that this is a negative matching rule
blank: does not affect results, but this rule is retained to indicate that it has already been assessed

discuss: Non-blank values indicate that this rule requires further discussion for finalisation
    note: Any notes
field: Which field of the Twitter account this rule is to be applied to. Options: 'location', 'description', or 'realname'
first_token: Token to match on to apply the rule
second_token: Token to match on to apply the rule
third_token: Token to match on to apply the rule

Note that first, second, and third tokens together represent a sequence of up to three tokens appearing in the specified field. If the relevant sequence for the rule is only one or two tokens in length, third_token and possibly second_token will be empty.
