    Description

Abstract (en): This data collection contains estimates of the total population residing in all counties and county equivalents in the United States for July 1, 1975, and July 1, 1976. Also included are estimates of the components of population change (births, deaths, and net migration) from April 1970 through December 1975. The data were compiled by the Census Bureau with the assistance of designated state agencies in the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates. The objective of the program was to develop and publish estimates of the population of counties using standard procedures for data input and methodology. The information included in this dataset was published for each county or county equivalent (e.g., parishes in Louisiana, census divisions in Alaska, and independent cities in Virginia and Missouri) by the Census Bureau. The population of all United States counties or county equivalents.

IPUMS-International is an effort to inventory, preserve, harmonize, and disseminate census microdata from around the world. The project has collected the world's largest archive of publicly available census samples. The data are coded and documented consistently across countries and over time to facillitate comparative research. IPUMS-International makes these data available to qualified researchers free of charge through a web dissemination system.

The IPUMS project is a collaboration of the Minnesota Population Center, National Statistical Offices, and international data archives. Major funding is provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Demographic and Behavioral Sciences Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Description

The spatial raster dataset depicts the distribution of population, expressed as the number of people per cell. Residential population estimates between 1975 and 2020 in 5 years intervals and projections to 2025 and 2030 derived from CIESIN GPWv4.11 were disaggregated from census or administrative units to grid cells, informed by the distribution, density, and classification of built-up as mapped in the Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) global layer per corresponding epoch. This dataset is an update of the product released in 2022. Major improvements are the following: use of built-up volume maps (GHS-BUILT-V R2022A); use of more recent and detailed population estimates derived from GPWv4.11 integrating both UN World Population Prospects 2022 country population data and World Urbanisation Prospects 2018 data on Cities; revision of GPWv4.11 population growthrates by convergence to upper administrative level growthrates; systematic improvement of census coastlines; systematic revision of census units declared as unpopulated; integration of non-residential built-up volume information (GHS-BUILT-V_NRES R2023A); spatial resolution of 100m Mollweide (and 3 arcseconds in WGS84); projections to 2030.

    Description

Abstract (en): This data collection contains population and per capita income estimates for over 39,000 governmental entities in the United States, recorded for selected years from 1969 to 1975. These estimates were developed to provide updates of the data elements in federal revenue sharing allocations under the state and local Fiscal Assistance Act of 1972. Estimates recorded in the data file are for July 1 of the respective years, while per capita income refers to the entire year. Data items included are population in 1970 as recorded in the decennial census of that year, population estimates for 1973 and 1975, and per capita money income estimates for 1969, 1972, and 1974. ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.. The county and county-equivalent population of the United States. (1) The methodology used to derive the estimates contained in this data collection is described in detail in Appendix B of the codebook. (2) The codebook is provided by ICPSR as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information on how to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader is provided on the ICPSR Web site.
