    Sampling procedure

The City of Buenos Aires has breakdowns by different territorial divisions (Communes, School Districts, Electoral Circumscriptions, etc.). In order to describe and compare the information within it, the survey was based on the decentralization of the City through Communes (Law No. 1,777) as these are political and administrative management units with territorial jurisdiction.

The sample design was probabilistic, with representation by conglomerates of Communes. The allocation of sample sizes was carried out in each Commune in proportion to the number of people in the population of each age group of interest that inhabited it. Within each age group, the sample was selected through a systematic design, previously ordered by Commune - Year of birth - Month of Birth.

For the preparation of the sampling frame of the age groups older than 5 years, they were selected dwellings from the samples of the "Annual Household Survey" 2 of the last 3 years (2008, 2009 and 2010) and of the "Survey of victimization, perception of safety and performance evaluation of the City's police forces of Buenos Aires "(2009) 3. In the case of the three groups comprised of children under 5 years of age, the "Live Births Statistical Reports" 4 of those born after 2006 were used as a framework.

Each sample was complemented with a selection of homes in Tenants and Villas. Previously, the figure of the sensitizer was used to corroborate the existence in the home of individuals with the necessary characteristics in each domain under study and thus "refine" the sampling frame. In Communes 1, 2, 6, 10, 12, 13 and 14, when the selected dwelling corresponded to an apartment, the sensitizer found out (whether or not the respondent was found) if there were other sampling units in the building corresponding to the domains under study. This was done with the objective of being able to have a reserve in case the sample in these communes did not reach the size of effective surveys determined a priori.
