    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the East Haddam town population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of East Haddam town across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2021, the population of East Haddam town was 8,965, a 0.52% increase year-by-year from 2020. Previously, in 2020, East Haddam town population was 8,919, a decline of 0.98% compared to a population of 9,007 in 2019. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2021, population of East Haddam town increased by 581. In this period, the peak population was 9,180 in the year 2011. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Description

This excel contains results from the 2017 State of Narragansett Bay and Its Watershed Technical Report (nbep.org), Chapter 4: "Population." The methods for analyzing population were developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency ORD Atlantic Coastal Environmental Sciences Division in collaboration with the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and other partners. Population rasters were generated using the USGS dasymetric mapping tool (see http://geography.wr.usgs.gov/science/dasymetric/index.htm) which uses land use data to distribute population data more accurately than simply within a census mapping unit. The 1990, 2000, and 2010 10m cell population density rasters were produced using Rhode Island state land use data, Massachusetts state land use, Connecticut NLCD land use data, and U.S. Census data. To generate a population estimate (number of persons) for any given area within the boundaries of this raster, NBEP used the the Zonal Statistics as Table tool to sum the 10m cell density values within a given zone dataset (e.g., watershed polygon layer). Results presented include population estimates (1990, 2000, 2010) as well as calculation of percent change (1990-2000;2000-2010;1990-2010).

    Description
    1. Understanding the drivers underlying fluctuations in the size of animal populations is central to ecology, conservation biology and wildlife management. Reliable estimates of survival probabilities are key to population viability assessments, and patterns of variation in survival can help inferring the causal factors behind detected changes in population size. 2. We investigated whether variation in age and sex-specific survival probabilities could help explain the increasing trend in population size detected in a small, discrete population of bottlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus off the east coast of Scotland. 3. To estimate annual survival probabilities we applied capture-recapture models to photo-identification data collected from 1989 to 2015. We used robust design models accounting for temporary emigration to estimate juvenile and adult survival, multi-state models to estimate sex-specific survival, and age-models to estimate calf survival. 4. We found strong support for an increase in juvenile/adult annual survival from 93.1% to 96.0% over the study period, most likely caused by a change in juvenile survival. Examination of sex-specific variation showed weaker support for this trend being a result of increasing female survival, which was overall higher than for males and animals of unknown sex. Calf survival was lower in the first than second year; a bias in estimating third-year survival will likely exist in similar studies. There was some support first-born calf survival being lower than for calves born subsequently. 5. Coastal marine mammal populations are subject to the impacts of environmental change, increasing anthropogenic disturbance and the effects of management measures. Survival estimates are essential to improve our understanding of population dynamics and help predict how future pressures may impact populations, but obtaining robust information on the life history of long-lived species is challenging. Our study illustrates how knowledge of survival can be increased by applying a robust analytical framework to photo-identification data.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the East Mountain population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of East Mountain across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of East Mountain was 956, a 2.14% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, East Mountain population was 936, an increase of 1.52% compared to a population of 922 in 2021. Description

Phylogeographic studies indicate that many marine invertebrates lacking autonomous dispersal ability are able to achieve trans-oceanic colonization by rafting on buoyant macroalgae. However, less is known about the impact of rafting on on-going population-genetic connectivity of intertidal species associated with buoyant macroalgae. We hypothesize that such species will have higher levels of population-genetic connectivity than those exploiting nonbuoyant substrates such as rock. We tested this hypothesis by comparing nuclear multilocus population-genetic structuring in two sister topshell species, which both have a planktonic larval phase but are fairly well segregated by their habitat preference of low-tidal bull-kelp holdfasts versus mid-to-low tidal bare rock. We analyzed population samples from four sympatric sites spanning 372 km of the east coast of southern New Zealand. The sampled region encompasses a 180 km wide habitat discontinuity and is influenced by a stable, northward coastal current. The level of connectivity was high in both species, and neither of them showed significant correlation between genetic and geographic distances. However, a significant negative partial correlation between genetic distance and habitat discontinuity was found in the rock-associated species, and estimates of migrant movement between sites were somewhat different between the two species, with the kelp-associated species more often yielding higher estimates across the habitat discontinuity, whereas the rock-associated species more often exhibited higher estimates between sites interspersed by rock habitats. We conclude that for species with substantial means of autonomous dispersal, the most conspicuous consequence of kelp dwelling may be enhanced long-distance dispersal across habitat discontinuities rather than a general increase of gene flow.

    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the East Pittsburgh population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of East Pittsburgh across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of East Pittsburgh was 1,855, a 1.17% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, East Pittsburgh population was 1,877, a decline of 1.37% compared to a population of 1,903 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of East Pittsburgh decreased by 210. In this period, the peak population was 2,065 in the year 2000. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of East Carbon across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2022, the population of East Carbon was 1,567, a 0.90% increase year-by-year from 2021. Previously, in 2021, East Carbon population was 1,553, a decline of 0.64% compared to a population of 1,563 in 2020. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2022, population of East Carbon increased by 184. In this period, the peak population was 1,679 in the year 2010. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the East Washington, PA population pyramid, which represents the East Washington population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-Year estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for East Washington, PA, is 12.0.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for East Washington, PA, is 24.6.
    • Total dependency ratio for East Washington, PA is 36.6.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for East Washington, PA is 4.1.
