    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the South San Francisco population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of South San Francisco across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of South San Francisco was 63,123, a 0.08% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, South San Francisco population was 63,073, a decline of 1.16% compared to a population of 63,816 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of South San Francisco increased by 2,480. In this period, the peak population was 67,147 in the year 2016. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Description

This dataset contains counts of live births for California counties based on information entered on birth certificates. Final counts are derived from static data and include out of state births to California residents, whereas provisional counts are derived from incomplete and dynamic data. Provisional counts are based on the records available when the data was retrieved and may not represent all births that occurred during the time period.

The final data tables include both births that occurred in California regardless of the place of residence (by occurrence) and births to California residents (by residence), whereas the provisional data table only includes births that occurred in California regardless of the place of residence (by occurrence). The data are reported as totals, as well as stratified by parent giving birth's age, parent giving birth's race-ethnicity, and birth place type. See temporal coverage for more information on which strata are available for which years.

    Description

Despite substantial reductions in the cost of sequencing over the last decade, genetic panels remain relevant due to their cost-effectiveness and flexibility across a variety of sample types. In particular, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) panels are increasingly favored for conservation applications. SNP panels are often used because of their adaptability, effectiveness with low-quality samples, and cost-efficiency for use in population monitoring and forensics. However, the selection of diagnostic SNPs for population assignment and individual identification can be challenging. The consequences of poor SNP selection are under-powered panels, inaccurate results, and monetary loss. Here, we develop a novel user-friendly SNP selection pipeline for population assignment and individual identification, mPCRselect. mPCRselect allows any researcher, who has sufficient SNP-level data, to design a successful and cost-effective SNP panel for species of conservation concern. Methods 13 tigers from each of the Amur and Bengal subspecies, and 13 Generic (N = 39 individuals total from Armstrong et al., 2024) were selected for this dataset. Unrelated individuals were previously identified in Armstrong et al., 2024. Then, we created a subset of 10,000 markers randomly sampled from across the genome using the remaining markers in linkage equilibrium. This dataset is provided as the test data for the mPCRselect pipeline (https://github.com/ellieearmstrong/mPCRselect). References:

    Description

County Health Status Profiles is an annually published report for the State of California by the California Department of Public Health in collaboration with the California Conference of Local Health Officers. Health indicators are measured for 58 counties and California statewide that can be directly compared to national standards and populations of similar composition. Where available, the measurements are ranked and compared with target rates established for Healthy People National Objectives.

For tables where the health indicator denominator and numerator are derived from the same data source, the denominator excludes records for which the health indicator data is missing and unable to be imputed.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the population of South Gate by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for South Gate. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of South Gate by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in South Gate. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for South Gate.

    Scope of gender :

Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. The question is intended to capture data for biological sex, not gender. Respondents are supposed to respond with the answer as either of Male or Female. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis.

    Variables / Data Columns

    • Age Group: This column displays the age group for the South Gate population analysis. Total expected values are 18 and are define above in the age groups section.
    • Population (Male): The male population in the South Gate is shown in the following column.
    • Population (Female): The female population in the South Gate is shown in the following column.
