    About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the Grass Range population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Grass Range across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

    In 2023, the population of Grass Range was 115, a 0.88% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Grass Range population was 114, a decline of 0% compared to a population of 114 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Grass Range decreased by 35. In this period, the peak population was 150 in the year 2000. It lists the population in each age cohort group along with its percentage relative to the total population of Grass Range.     Description

    Globally, about 25 percent of the population is under 15 years of age and 10 percent is over 65 years of age. Africa has the youngest population worldwide. In Sub-Saharan Africa, more than 40 percent of the population is below 15 years, and only three percent are above 65, indicating the low life expectancy in several of the countries. In Europe, on the other hand, a higher share of the population is above 65 years than the population under 15 years. Fertility rates The high share of children and youth in Africa is connected to the high fertility rates on the continent. For instance, South Sudan and Niger have the highest population growth rates globally. However, about 50 percent of the world’s population live in countries with low fertility, where women have less than 2.1 children. Some countries in Europe, like Latvia and Lithuania, have experienced a population decline of one percent, and in the Cook Islands, it is even above two percent. In Europe, the majority of the population was previously working-aged adults with few dependents, but this trend is expected to reverse soon, and it is predicted that by 2050, the older population will outnumber the young in many developed countries. Growing global population As of 2025, there are 8.1 billion people living on the planet, and this is expected to reach more than nine billion before 2040. Moreover, the global population is expected to reach 10 billions around 2060, before slowing and then even falling slightly by 2100. As the population growth rates indicate, a significant share of the population increase will happen in Africa.

    Thematic maps of the population. Share of population by age group in the total population in 2020, 2040, 2070. % change in population by age group in 2020 compared to 2040 and 2070. Youth and old-age dependency ratios 2020, 2040 and 2070. The youth quotient indicates the number of persons under the age of 20 per 100 persons between the ages of 20 and 65, the old-age quotient indicates the number of persons aged 65 and older per 100 persons between the ages of 20 and 65. The data come from the sixth regionalized population projection (medium variant). This projection is based on the results of the population update as at 31. December 2020. The birth rate will rise from 1.57 today to 1.6 children per woman by 2025. It will remain constant until 2070. Life expectancy will increase from 83 to 85 years for women today and from 79 to 82 years for men by 2040. By 2070, a further increase is assumed for women to 87 years and for men to 85 years. The projection assumes that the net migration will increase from 17,300 to +20,000 persons per year by 2025. It will remain at this level until 2030. The balance will then fall to +15,000 persons by 2040. This corresponds roughly to the long-term net migration recorded by Rhineland-Palatinate on average per year between 1951 and 2020. From 2040 onwards, the balance will remain constant until the end of the forecasting period. Population under 20 years 2070, % change from 2070.

    Under the current amphibian biodiversity crisis, common species provide an opportunity to measure population dynamics across a wide range of environmental conditions while examining the processes that determine abundance and structure geographic ranges. Studying species at their range limits also provides a window for understanding the dynamics expected in future environments under increasing climate change and human modification. We quantified patterns of seasonal activity, density, and space use in the Eastern red-backed salamander (Plethodon cinereus) near its southern range edge and compare the spatial ecology of this population to previous findings from the core of their range. This southern population shows the expected phenology of surface activity based on temperature limitations in warmer climates, yet maintains unexpectedly high densities and large home ranges during the active season. Our study suggests that ecological factors known to strongly affect amphibian populations (e.g., warm temperature, forest fragmentation) do not necessarily constrain this southern population. Our study highlights the utility of studying a common amphibian as a model system for investigating population processes in environments under strong selective pressure.

    Description

    Demographic compensation – the opposing responses of vital rates along environmental gradients – potentially delays anticipated species’ range contraction under climate change, but no consensus exists on its actual contribution. We calculated population growth rate (λ) and demographic compensation across the distributional ranges of 81 North American tree species, and examined their responses to simulated warming and tree competition. We found that 43% of species showed stable population size at both northern and southern edges. Demographic compensation was detected in 25 species, yet fifteen of them still showed a potential retraction from southern edges, indicating that compensation alone cannot maintain range stability. Simulated climatic warming caused larger decreases in λ for most species, and weakened the effectiveness of demographic compensation in stabilizing ranges. These findings suggest that climate stress may surpass the limited capacity of demographic compensation and pose a threat to the viability of North American tree populations.

About this dataset

Context

The dataset tabulates the Grass Range population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Grass Range across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

Key observations

In 2023, the population of Grass Range was 115, a 0.88% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Grass Range population was 114, a decline of 0% compared to a population of 114 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Grass Range decreased by 35. In this period, the peak population was 150 in the year 2000.
