The geographic units, which remain constant throughout the decade, include counties, census tracts, block groups, and blocks. Fields have been added so data formatted or published by the council can be joined to the shapefile for analysis. Each Shapefile (.shp) is in a compressed file (.zip) format. Description

Intercensal estimates are produced once a decade by adjusting the existing time series of postcensal estimates for a decade to smooth the transition from one decennial census count to the next They differ from the postcensal estimates that are released annually because they rely on a formula that redistributes the difference between the April 1 postcensal estimate and April 1 census count for the end of the decade across the estimates for that decade Meanwhile, the nbsp postcensal estimates nbsp incorporate current data on births, deaths, and migration to produce each new vintage of estimates, and to revise estimates for years back to the last census Note Intercensal Estimates as of July 1 1 The April 1, 2000 Population Estimates base reflects changes to the Census 2000 population from the Count Question Resolution program, legal boundary updates, and other geographic program revisions 2 The data source for April 1, 2010 is the 2010 Census count 3 The values for 2010 were produced by applying estimates of change in the population between April 1 and July 1 of 2010 to the 2010 Census counts Further details on this methodology are available at http www census gov popest methodology intercensal nat meth pdf

A brief description of Census Blocks, per USCB, is that "Census blocks are statistical areas bounded by visible features such as roads, streams, and railroad tracks, and by nonvisible boundaries such as property lines, city, township, school district, county limits and short line-of-sight extensions of roads." Also, "the smallest level of geography you can get basic demographic data for, such as total population by age, sex, and race."Census Block 1007Data currency: This cached Esri federal service is checked weekly for updates from its enterprise federal source (Census Blocks) and will support mapping, analysis, data exports and OGC API – Feature access.NGDAID: 69 (Series Information for 2020 Census Block State-based TIGER/Line Shapefiles, Current)OGC API Features Link: (U.S. Census Blocks - OGC Features) copy this link to embed it in OGC Compliant viewersFor more information, please visit: What are census blocksFor feedback please contact: Esri_US_Federal_Data@esri.comNGDA Data SetThis data set is part of the NGDA Governmental Units, and Administrative and Statistical Boundaries Theme Community. Per the Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC), this theme is defined as the "boundaries that delineate geographic areas for uses such as governance and the general provision of services (e.g., states, American Indian reservations, counties, cities, towns, etc.), administration and/or for a specific purpose (e.g., congressional districts, school districts, fire districts, Alaska Native Regional Corporations, etc.), and/or provision of statistical data (census tracts, census blocks, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, etc.). Boundaries for these various types of geographic areas are either defined through a documented legal description or through criteria and guidelines. Other boundaries may include international limits, those of federal land ownership, the extent of administrative regions for various federal agencies, as well as the jurisdictional offshore limits of U.S. sovereignty. Boundaries associated solely with natural resources and/or cultural entities are excluded from this theme and are included in the appropriate subject themes."For other NGDA Content: Esri Federal Datasets

    Abstract

This dataset was curated for the digital humanities portion of the project "500 Years of Black History in South Florida" by Synatra Smith, Luling Huang, and Portia Hopkins.

    Methodology

Data was curated at the U.S. Census Tract level for four counties in South Florida: Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach.

There are two tables in this dataset:

    • sociodem_enepov: This table contains several sociodemographic variables and energy burden level at the census tract level;
    • airqua: This table contains monthly median air quality data at the census tract level for Year 2016.

    %3C!-- --%3E

The sociodemographic data come from the American Community Survey (2020 5-year estimates). The variables include fraction of black population, median income, unemployment rate, and four education level variables for population 25 years or above: fraction of population below high school, fraction of population who had high school diploma only, fraction of population who had a college degree or equivalent only, and fraction of population who had a graduate degree. Here are the table numbers and relevant columns from the U.S. Census data portal:

    • Education: S1501
    • Black population: B01001B (column: B01001B_001E)
    • Total population: B01001 (for calculating fraction of black population)
    • Median income: S1903 (column: S1903_C03_001E)
    • Employment: S2301 (column: S2301_C04_001E)

    %3C!-- --%3E

The energy burden data come from the U.S. Department of Energy's Low-Income Energy Affordability Data (LEAD) tool. The air quality (PM2.5 concentration) data come from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Daily Census Tract-Level PM2.5 Concentrations, 2016.

This project is conducted on behalf of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History and the National Park Service with additional funding from the Council on Library and Information Resources.

    Description

This dataset lists the total population 18 years and older by census block in Connecticut before and after population adjustments were made pursuant to Public Act 21-13. PA 21-13 creates a process to adjust the U.S. Census Bureau population data to allow for most individuals who are incarcerated to be counted at their address before incarceration. Prior to enactment of the act, these inmates were counted at their correctional facility address. The act requires the CT Office of Policy and Management (OPM) to prepare and publish the adjusted and unadjusted data by July 1 in the year after the U.S. census is taken or 30 days after the U.S. Census Bureau’s publication of the state’s data. A report documenting the population adjustment process was prepared by a team at OPM composed of the Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division (OPM CJPPD) and the Data and Policy Analytics (DAPA) unit. The report is available here: https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/OPM/CJPPD/CjAbout/SAC-Documents-from-2021-2022/PA21-13_OPM_Summary_Report_20210921.pdf Note: On September 21, 2021, following the initial publication of the report, OPM and DOC revised the count of juveniles, reallocating 65 eighteen-year-old individuals who were incorrectly designated as being under age 18. After the DOC released the updated data to OPM, the report and this dataset were updated to reflect the revision.

This dataset contains information on the ratio of family income to the federal poverty level at the census tract level. Each column beginning with a "T_" lists the total number of families that fall into each income category. In addition, the dataset contains information on margins of error and the reliability of each estimate, to help guide decisionmakers in more effectively using the data contained in this file. There are approximately 2,800 records in this dataset; census tract boundaries are generally drawn based on population, and are targeted to include bewteen 3,000 and 8,000 residents. Field description metadata is available for download. For more information on poverty data from the Census Bureau, please visit American Factfinder (www.factfinder2.census.gov).

    Description

U.S. Census Bureau released the 2020 Census tracts current boundaries referenced to Jan. 1, 2020.

Census tracts are relatively permanent small-area geographic divisions of a county or statistically equivalent entity defined for the tabulation and presentation of data from the decennial census and selected other statistical programs.

The core TIGER/Line Files and Shapefiles do not include demographic data, but they do contain geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be linked to the Census Bureau’s demographic data, available on data.census.gov.

The U.S. Census Grids (Summary File 1), 1990: Metropolitan Statistical Areas data set contains grids of demographic and socioeconomic data from the year 1990 U.S. census in ASCII andGeoTIFF formats for 39 metropolitan statistical areas with at least one million in population. The grids have a resolution of 7.5 arc-seconds (0.002075 decimal degrees), or approximately 250 square meters. The gridded variables are based on census block geography from Census 1990 TIGER/Line Files and census variables (population, households, and housing variables). This data set is produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
