A substantial amount of industry revenue comes from government subsidies, and increasing attention to higher education has been driving the development of the industry. The industry comprises 4,730 institutions, employing 2.5 million people with an estimated payroll of almost $15.6 billion. Public universities and colleges are public welfare and not-for-profit.This industry also benefits from international students studying at Chinese universities (i.e., exports). About 526,000 international students studying in China are expected to generate $1.7 billion for the industry in 2024. Higher education imports (i.e., Chinese students at foreign institutions) are expected to total $9.9 billion in 2024. In 2024, an estimated 820,173 Chinese students are studying at foreign higher education institutions.Revenue for colleges and universities in China is forecast to increase by an annualized 1.8% over the five years through 2029 to reach $32.0 billion. The main growth drivers will be steady increases in demand for higher education and rising government funding levels. The continued globalization of China's economy will facilitate frequent international exchanges and cooperation between institutions, raising demand for higher education in China and boosting industry’s competitiveness. In recent years, some Chinese universities have performed outstandingly in international rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, some universities have been increasing yearly, reflecting their improvement in education quality, research capabilities, and internationalization level. In addition, Chinese universities have carried out large-scale disciplinary and professional adjustments to meet the needs of social development and industrial transformation. These adjustments include adding and removing majors, as well as transforming and upgrading existing majors.

    Description

This Excel file contains four tabs based on data hand-collected from geographical peer institutions to compare library salaries. In some instances, library salaries where provided directly to the researcher, but in most instances, the researcher relied on open data regarding state salaries to estimate and include data. This data should not be taken as perfect data, but as best estimated data using current staff member positions and names combined with university or college pay scales. Salary Comparisons: The first tab of this spreadsheet contains hand-keyed data comparing estimated salaries for library deans, library directors, librarians, library assistant IIs, and library assistant Is at geographical peer institutions. Salary Model: The second tab of this spreadsheet contains preliminary work to create a multilinear regression model to determine salary starting points at geographical peer institutions in the state of Oklahoma. Color Coded Salary Model: The third tab of this spreadsheet contains salary averages, position ranking within each library from 1-7 with 1 representing those closest to a library assistant position and 7 representing library deans or dean-type roles, and Excel formulas to represent each geographical peer on a line graph by color. Graphs: The fourth and final tab of this spreadsheet includes all graphs generated within the spreadsheet itself. The report associated with this dataset encompasses preliminary research, data, and statistics collected to discuss the role of McFarlin Library in the University of Tulsa's 2022 strategic initiatives. Data was gathered through publicly-available sources, such as the U.S. News and World Report rankings of colleges and universities within the United States, information gathered from websites of libraries within that ranking, and cost estimations from publicly-available sources. This project includes unpublished documents containing rudimentary ideas regarding the role of McFarlin Library in the University of Tulsa’s Strategic Initiatives. These materials do not represent the views of the University of Tulsa or McFarlin Library at the University of Tulsa, nor does it represent implementation steps, legitimate suggestions, or advice. Those who download and consult this document do so with the understanding that it has not been implemented or consulted by the University of Tulsa’s administration.

    Description

Third-level education institutions benefit from rising enrolments as the number of 19- to 24-year-olds in Ireland rises and more pupils achieve the qualifications needed for university courses. This supported universities’ revenue, which will grow at a compound annual rate of 5.8% over the five years through 2025 to €3.3 billion. Revenue across the period took a sizeable blow from the COVID-19 outbreak. Despite rising student numbers, revenue fell back in 2020 and 2021 due to a drop in students on campus when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak. This decimated revenue earned from on-campus activities, like student accommodation and dining halls. At the same time, travel restrictions slashed international student numbers, further reducing revenue. Since 2022, students have returned to campus, and Irish universities have seen higher international enrolments. Since Brexit, enrolments from EU students have soared. That’s because Brexit made the UK less attractive to EU students wishing to study at an English-speaking university, as they would have to pay higher international fees. Irish universities have also benefitted from rising international student enrolments, supported by continued high rankings of many institutions, including in the 2023 QS World University Rankings. Students from India, China and the United States continue to sharply rise. Since international students pay higher fees, this will contribute to revenue growth of 2.1 in 2025. Revenue will continue benefitting from tuition fee growth and an increasing intake of both domestic and international students. Industry revenue is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 4.3% over the next five years to reach €4.1 billion. Government funding of €194 million has been earmarked for Funding the Future to help students. Funding will help address the core funding deficit, as well as improve the quality of education and attract even more students. Under-represented students (e.g., low-income and disabled students) will benefit from funding prioritised to improve accessibility to higher education for these groups. There will also be a continued rise in the number of international students, supported by the establishment of more reputable technological universities.

    Description

The Institutional Data Archive on American Higher Education (IDA) contains academic data on 384 four-year colleges and universities in the United States. The IDA is one of two databases produced by the Colleges and Universities 2000 project based at the University of California, Riverside. This release, the third compilation of the IDA, is updated through academic year 2010-2011, and includes longitudinal and cross-sectional data from multiple sources. The collection is organized into nine datasets based on the unit of analysis and whether identifiers linking the data to particular institutions are present; seven of the datasets can be linked by a common identifier variable (PROJ_ID), and two cannot be linked due to confidentiality agreements. The seven identifiable datasets contain information on institutions, university systems, programs and academic departments, earned degrees, graduate schools, medical schools, and institutional academic rankings over time. Data regarding student enrollments, average SAT and ACT scores, and tuition and fees has been recorded, as well as institutional information concerning libraries, research activity, revenue and expenditures, faculty salaries, and quality rankings for program faculty. The identifiable datasets also include census information for neighborhoods surrounding IDA colleges and universities. The two non-identifiable datasets contain confidential survey responses from IDA institution presidents, chancellors, provosts, and academic vice presidents; survey questions pertained to governance structures, institutional goals and achievements, and solicited opinions on current and future issues facing the respondent's institution and higher education in general.

    Description

The university in the United States with the largest endowment market value in 2024 was Harvard University, with an endowment fund value of about 51.98 billion U.S. dollars. U.S. higher education Colleges and universities in the United States rank highly among the world’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. Many universities are particularly well known for their strong research capabilities and their connections to many Nobel Prize winning laureates. The U.S. university system is largely decentralized. Except for service academies and staff colleges, the federal government does not directly regulate universities; public universities are administered solely by the individual states. Besides the state administered public universities, there are many private universities in the United States, most are non-profit institutions, similar to the public universities, but there are also a number of institutions that rely on profit (Walden University in Minnesota, for example). In general, tuition fees are required to be paid by students at American universities. Public universities generally charge lower tuition rates to in-state students, than to out-of-state students. Private universities are often much more expensive than public ones because they do not receive funding from state governments.American students are often required to take out student loans to supplement scholarships and grants provided by diverse sources to be able to pay for tuition. Student debt has become a major issue in the United States in recent years, with many Americans unsure if they can even afford to pay off their student loans in the future.
