    Description

This is the ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD) for the United Kingdom as at February 2024 in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and ASCII text (TXT) formats. This file contains the multi CSVs so that postcode areas can be opened in MS Excel. To download the zip file click the Download button. The ONSPD relates both current and terminated postcodes in the United Kingdom to a range of current statutory administrative, electoral, health and other area geographies. It also links postcodes to pre-2002 health areas, 1991 Census enumeration districts for England and Wales, 2001 Census Output Areas (OA) and Super Output Areas (SOA) for England and Wales, 2001 Census OAs and SOAs for Northern Ireland and 2001 Census OAs and Data Zones (DZ) for Scotland. It now contains 2021 Census OAs and SOAs for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It helps support the production of area-based statistics from postcoded data. The ONSPD is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The ONSPD is issued quarterly. Description

For many countries lat/lng are determined with an algorithm that searches the place names in the main geonames database using administrative divisions and numerical vicinity of the postal codes as factors in the disambiguation of place names. For postal codes and place name for which no corresponding toponym in the main geonames database could be found an average lat/lng of 'neighbouring' postal codes is calculated. Please let us know if you find any errors in the data set. ThanksFor Canada we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)For Ireland we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)For Malta we have only the first letters of the full postal codes (for copyright reasons)The Argentina data file contains 4-digit postal codes which were replaced with a new system in 1999.For Brazil only major postal codes are available (only the codes ending with -000 and the major code per municipality). For India the lat/lng accuracy is not yet comparable to other countries.Update frequency: 1 month

    Description

This data set contains zip code tabulation areas for 5-digit zip codes in New Mexico. It was obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau web page http://www.census.gov/geo/www/cob/zt.html. The metadata at this site is so poor that this metadata record has been created. Technical details are available from the technical documentation at http://www.census.gov/geo/ZCTA/zctatddr.pdf. A ZIP Code tabulation area (ZCTA ) is a statistical geographic entity that approximates the delivery area for a U.S. Postal Service five-digit or three-digit ZIP Code. ZCTAs are aggregations of census blocks that have the same predominant ZIP Code associated with the addresses in the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File. Three -digit ZCTA codes are applied to large contiguous areas for which the U.S. Census Bureau does not have five-digit ZIP Code information in its Master Address File. ZCTAs do not precisely depict ZIP Code delivery areas, and do not include all ZIP Codes used for mail delivery. The U.S. Census Bureau has established ZCTAs as a new geographic entity similar to, but replacing, data tabulations for ZIP Codes undertaken in conjunction with the 1990 and earlier censuses.

    Description

You might find these adult skills fund (ASF) data files showing the funding bodies that are responsible for funding each postcode in England useful.

We use this data in funding calculations to support publicly funded education and skills in England; covering 16 to 19 study programmes, adult skills fund (ASF), free courses for jobs (FCFJ), apprenticeships, the European Social Fund and advanced learner loans bursary. This includes devolved ASF and FCFJ qualifications funded by mayoral combined authorities or the Greater London Authority.

    ASF postcode files

To support the devolution of ASF, we have produced postcode files to show which postcodes are within the devolved areas, and consequently which body is responsible for ASF learners resident in a given postcode.

How we use data from different years

For funded learners aged 16 to 19, we apply the most recent single funding year’s factors to all learners in that funding year, regardless of their start date.

For adult-funded aims and apprenticeship frameworks, we changed our calculations in the 2016 to 2017 year to apply the factor or cash value in our calculations based on the date when the learner started the aim or programme. For example, for learners who started adult-funded aims or apprenticeship frameworks from 1 August 2017 to 31 July 2018, we used the values from the 2017 to 2018 tables in the funding calculations for 2018 to 2019 and then in subsequent years.

    Postcodes area cost uplifts

The area cost uplift reflects the higher cost of delivering provision in some parts of the country, such as London and the south east.

    Disadvantage uplifts

These are uplifts or amounts for learners living in the most disadvantaged areas of the country.

Historically we have used various versions of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) to determine disadvantage factors and uplifts.

The IMD is assigned based on lower layer super output areas (LSOAs). LSOAs are a set of geographical areas developed, following the 2001 census, with the aim of defining areas of consistent size whose boundaries would not change between censuses.

Therefore, we initially set disadvantage factors at LSOA level, and then apply the factors to postcodes within each LSOA. We publish disadvantage information on this page at LSOA level and also at postcode level.

For the year 2021 to 2022 onwards, the 2019 IMD has been used for provision funded by the Department for Education (DfE) (or Education and Skills Funding Agency for relevant years). This used LSOA code based mapping from the 2011 census.

For the year 2016 to 2017 up to and including the year 2020 to 2021, we used the 2015 IMD. This used the LSOA mapping from the 2011 census.

Up to the funding year 2015 to 2016, we used the 2010 IMD which used the LSOAs from the 2001 census as its underlying mapping.

Some Mayoral combined authorities and the Greater London Authority have wished to set different disadvantage factors to those of DfE for ASF provision they fund.

We will indicate which organisation’s funding applies to each factor using a ‘SOFCode’ field in the files published here.

The SOFCode field uses values from the <a rel="external" href="https://guidance.submit-learner-data.service.gov.uk/25-26/ilr/entity/LearningDeliveryFA

    Description

U.S. ZIP Code Points represents the five-digit U.S. ZIP Code areas as points, plus all ZIP Codes that have no associated area such as post office box ZIP Codes and single site ZIP Codes (government, building, or large volume customer).Five-digit ZIP Codes are used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states (or equivalent areas) numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a Sectional Center Facility (SCF) or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area. The points are sourced from TomTom (June 2024) and the 2023 population estimates are from Esri Demographics. This layer is updated annually.

    Description

MassGIS had received quarterly updates of these data as part of its license for the HERE (Navteq) core map release (streets and related data); however, that license has expired. These ZIP Code boundaries are aligned to the street centerlines of the Q2 2018 HERE product (with a release date of April 1, 2018) and use a then-recent USPS source file.In March 2024, MassGIS modified the boundaries for all ZIP Code areas in Boston based on the U.S. Postal Service's ZIP Code Look Up by Address website. MassGIS also added polygons for ZIP Codes 02199 and 02203.Five-digit ZIP Codes were developed by the USPS and first introduced in 1963 for efficient mail delivery (the term ZIP stands for Zone Improvement Plan) but are difficult to map with complete certainty. In most cases, addresses in close proximity to each other are grouped in the same ZIP Code, which gives the appearance that ZIP Codes are defined by a clear geographic boundary. However, even when ZIP Codes appear to be geographically grouped, a clear ZIP Code boundary cannot always be drawn because ZIP Codes are only assigned to a point of delivery and not the spaces between delivery points. In areas without a regular postal route or no mail delivery, ZIP Codes may not be defined or have unclear boundaries. The USPS does not maintain an official ZIP Code map. The Census Bureau and many other commercial services will interpolate the data to create polygons to represent the approximate area covered by a ZIP code, but none of these maps are official or entirely accurate. Please see this good discussion of the issues of mapping ZIP Codes.See full metadata.Map service also available.

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates to present statistical data for each decennial census. The Census Bureau delineates ZCTA boundaries for the United States, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands once each decade following the decennial census. Data users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery. The Census Bureau uses tabulation blocks as the basis for defining each ZCTA. Tabulation blocks are assigned to a ZCTA based on the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses contained within that block. The most frequently occurring ZIP Code also becomes the five-digit numeric code of the ZCTA. These codes may contain leading zeros. Blocks that do not contain addresses but are surrounded by a single ZCTA (enclaves) are assigned to the surrounding ZCTA. Because the Census Bureau only uses the most frequently occurring ZIP Code to assign blocks, a ZCTA may not exist for every USPS ZIP Code. Some ZIP Codes may not have a matching ZCTA because too few addresses were associated with the specific ZIP Code or the ZIP Code was not the most frequently occurring ZIP Code within any of the blocks where it exists. The ZCTA boundaries in this release are those delineated following the 2020 Census.

    Description

These are the full-resolution boundary zip code tabular areas (ZCTA), derived from the US Census Bureau's TIGER/Line Shapefiles. The dataset contains polygons that roughly approximate each of the USPS 5-digit zip codes. It is one of many geography datasets available in BigQuery through the Google Cloud Public Dataset Program to support geospatial analysis. You can find more information on the other datasets at the US Geographic Boundaries Marketplace page . Though they do not continuously cover all land and water areas in the United States, ZCTAs are a great way to visualize geospatial data in an understandable format with excellent spatial resolution. This dataset gives the area of land and water within each zip code, as well as the corresponding city and state for each zip code. This makes the dataset an excellent candidate for JOINs to support geospatial queries with BigQuery’s GIS capabilities. Note: BQ-GIS is in public beta, so your GCP project will need to be whitelisted to try out these queries. You can sign up to request access here . This public dataset is hosted in Google BigQuery and is included in BigQuery's 1TB/mo of free tier processing. This means that each user receives 1TB of free BigQuery processing every month, which can be used to run queries on this public dataset. Description

One of the many challenges that social science researchers and practitioners face is the difficulty of relating United States Postal Service (USPS) ZIP codes to Census Bureau geographies. There are valuable data available only at the ZIP code level that, when combined with demographic data tabulated at various Census geography levels, could open up new avenues of exploration. While some acceptable methods of combining ZIP codes and Census geography exist, they have limitations. To provide additional avenues for merging these data, PD&R has released the HUD-USPS Crosswalk Files. These unique files are derived from data in the quarterly USPS Vacancy Data. They originate directly from the USPS; are updated quarterly, making them highly responsive to changes in ZIP code configurations; and reflect the locations of both business and residential addresses. The latter feature is of particular interest to housing researchers because many of the phenomena that they study are based on housing unit or address. By using an allocation method based on residential addresses rather than by area or by population, analysts can take into account not only the spatial distribution of population, but also the spatial distribution of residences. This enables a slightly more nuanced approach to allocating data between disparate geographies. Please note that the USPS Vacancy Data is constructed from ZIP+4 data that contains records of addresses, it does not contain ZIP+4 data that are associated with ZIP codes that exclusively serve Postal Office Boxes (PO Boxes). As a result, ZIP codes that only serve PO Boxes will not appear in the files. In addition to the crosswalk files, this dataset also includes screenshots of HUDs documentation and FAQ pages.Understanding ZIP Code Crosswalk FilesThough often used for mapping, spatial analysis, and data aggregation careful attention is required when interpreting ZIP Code data relative to other administrative geographies. The following article demonstrates how to more effectively use the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) United States Postal Service ZIP Code Crosswalk Files when working with disparate geographies.Wilson, Ron and Din, Alexander, 2018. “Understanding and Enhancing the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s ZIP Code Crosswalk Files,” Cityscape: A Journal of Policy Development and Research, Volume 20 Number 2, 277 – 294. https://www.huduser.gov/portal/periodicals/cityscpe/vol20num2/ch16.pdfUsing a GIS to Geoprocess ZIP Code Crosswalk FilesThis article demonstrates how to use a GIS to process ZIP Code Crosswalk Files. In this article, calls for service from New York City's Open Data Portal are estimated at the county-level and census tract-level. This article also includes an accuracy analysis.Din, Alexander and Wilson, Ron, 2020. Description

The American Community Survey (ACS) is a nationwide, continuous survey designed to provide communities with reliable and timely demographic, housing, social and economic data. The ACS replaces the decennial census long form in 2010 and every year thereafter. The annual ACS sample is smaller than that of previous long form surveys resulting in a larger sampling error. Coefficients of Variation (CVs), which are statistical measures that show the relative amount of sampling error associated with an estimate, are presented here as a measure of reliability and usability of the data. The unit of geography used for the 2010 - 2014 data is the ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA). ZCTAs are statistical geographic areas produced by the Census Bureau by aggregating census blocks to create generalized areas closely resembling the U.S. Postal Service's postal ZIP codes.Last Updated: UnknownThis is a MD iMAP hosted service. This file contains the National Statistics Postcode Lookup (NSPL) for the United Kingdom as at August 2022 in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and ASCII text (TXT) formats. To download the zip file click the Download button. The NSPL relates both current and terminated postcodes to a range of current statutory geographies via ‘best-fit’ allocation from the 2021 Census Output Areas (national parks and Workplace Zones are exempt from ‘best-fit’ and use ‘exact-fit’ allocations) for England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland has the 2011 Census Output AreasIt supports the production of area based statistics from postcoded data. The NSPL is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The NSPL is issued quarterly. Report Volume Data The report counts in this data set are broken down by activity sector, report type, the year and month of receipt, and reporting entity location. The reporting entity location is represented by the forward sortation area (FSA) component of the Canadian postal code (i.e. the first three characters of the Canadian postal code, e.g. “K1P”) that designates the postal district where the reporting entity is located. ##Modernization of Reporting Forms The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) is engaged in a multi-year initiative to implement important changes to its reporting forms. Part of this modernization now allows reporting entities to submit reports containing transactions from multiple locations, increasing efficiency and reducing burden. This will change how FINTRAC publishes statistics for reports that have been modernized. FINTRAC implemented the new Large Cash Transaction Report in October 2023. As such, reporting volume statistics for the Large Cash Transaction Report will be published at a national level for quarters 3 and 4 of 2023-2024 (from October to December, and January to March, respectively). The publication of this dataset has been temporarily paused to accommodate the transition to new reporting forms. This transition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and consistency of the data we collect. ##Protecting the Identity of Reporting Entities By law, FINTRAC must protect the identity of the persons and entities that are required to submit financial transaction reports to the Centre under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act. In keeping with this responsibility to protect information, FINTRAC cannot provide more specific geographic data than is contained in this data set. Whenever possible, the data set includes the full FSA to identify the location of reporting entities submitting reports to FINTRAC. However, in any case where a certain location contains fewer than five reporting entities, or fewer than five reports submitted, only partial characters of the FSA are shown. This means that certain FSAs may contain only one or two characters (e.g., K or K1) instead of the standard three characters (e.g., K1P). In rare cases, it was not possible to provide a reporting entity location or report count without risking revealing the identity of reporting entities in a given activity sector or identifying a specific report, and so the data is provided at a national level only. All FSA levels are hierarchically inclusive. This means, for example, that the total number of report counts for K1 includes all reports submitted within all FSAs that start with K1 (i.e. K1A, K1B, K1C), including those that may not be visible because they include fewer than five reporting entities in a given activity sector.
