Suburban Cook County Election Precincts maintained by the Cook County Clerk's Election Department. Not included are the City of Chicago Election Precincts which are maintained by the Chicago Board Of Elections.Voting District Project of the Census Redistricting Data Program commenced in Summer of 2017 to establish the state’s Voting precincts within the bureau’s tiger geography. The initial phase used the Bureau’s GUPS plugin for QGIS to update the districts from the 2010 round, and then a secondary verification phase took place to ensure the updated voting districts were properly enacted into Tiger geographic files. A post census effort took place in December 2021 to cut the number of precincts down countywide to 1430.Election Data Services conducted Phase 2 of the Census Redistricting Data Program for the State of Illinois, as well as implemented changes made post census in Cook County.Precincts are updated as needed before every election by the Cook County Clerk's Elections Department.

NOTE: This dataset is historical-only. The Illinois Liquor Control Act of 1934 permits voters in any precinct in the City of Chicago to vote an entire precinct “dry” through a local option referendum. If a precinct has been voted “Dry/Dry,” no liquor licenses, other than a caterer’s liquor license, may be issued. If a precinct has been voted "Dry/Wet" no liquor licenses can be obtained for the consumption of alcohol on premise but the sale of package goods is allowed along with the caterer’s liquor license. The VOTE_DRY_I column is the Precinct/Ward which was voted dry. It reflects the Ward/Precinct that was effective at the date of the referendum. Ward/Precinct boundaries may have changed since that date. STATUS column indicates if the precinct was voted 'dry/dry' or 'dry/wet'. Suburban Cook County includes all municipalities except Chicago. A precinct, which is also called an election district, is an administrative unit for the election department to distribute election materials and resources, conduct elections, and to report election results. Each precinct has a specific polling place where its residents go to vote. Sometimes several precincts will use the same polling place.

The Chicago City Code, Chapter 4-17, allows for shared housing rentals to be prohibited or restricted in specified precincts. This dataset shows those precincts for which such restrictions have been requested by voter petition, including those approved by ordinance and potentially those for which an attempted repeal of the prohibition is underway or complete.

Created for all users to view and understand Congressional District boundaries within Cook County, Illinois. The Congressional Districts will be effective on January 11, 2023 and are based on the 2020 Census. Congressional Districts are federal districts represented by the United States House of Representatives.The Congressional Districts were received from the Illinois State Board of Elections via download on Jan. 21, 2022 from the following webpage: https://www.elections.il.gov/agencyforms/Redistricting%202022%20Shape%20Files/Cook County GIS projected the data in the local datum: NAD 1983 StatePlane Illinois East FIPS 1201 (US Feet). Cook County GIS also trimmed the districts using the Cook County boundary to only show the districts within the border of Cook County.
