    Description

As of 2025, Manchester United and Liverpool had won the English top-flight more times than any other team, with a total of 20 titles each. The league was most recently won by Liverpool in 2024/25, with coach Arne Slot guiding the Reds to success in his first season at the club. Which teams have been most successful in the Premier League era? The Premier League was founded in 1992, replacing the old First Division as the highest tier of English football. Since then, the league has reached new heights financially, having the highest revenue out of the Big Five leagues in Europe. Manchester United have won the most league titles since 1992, with a total of 13. However, local rivals Manchester City have dominated in recent years, winning the Premier League six times since 2018 alone. The other teams that have won the Premier League on more than one occasion are Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. What does the future hold for Manchester City? Manchester City’s dominance has sometimes called the Premier League’s competitiveness into question, with the club’s resources far exceeding most teams in the league. Overall, City had the second-highest revenue out of any club worldwide in 2023/24, with only Real Madrid generating more. However, uncertainty over the club’s 115 alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules and a difficult 2024/25 season mean that things may not be plain sailing for City from now on – welcome news to fans of Liverpool and Arsenal, who have narrowly missed out on titles in recent years.

Analysis of ‘Premier League Matches 2014-2020’ provided by Analyst-2 (analyst-2.ai), based on source dataset retrieved from https://www.kaggle.com/sanjeetsinghnaik/premier-league-matches-20142020 on 28 January 2022.

--- Dataset description provided by original source is as follows ---

The Premier League is by far one of the world’s most entertaining leagues. They have some of the best managers, players and fans! But, what makes it truly entertaining is the sheer unpredictability. There are 6 equally amazing teams with a different team lifting the trophy every season. Not only that, the league has also witnessed victories from teams outside of the top 6. So, let us analyze some of these instances.

So far, the implementation of statistics into soccer has been positive. Teams can easily gather information about their opponents and their tactics. This convenience allows managers to create well-thought out game plans that suit their team, maximize opponents' weaknesses, and increase their chances of winning.

A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that no offence has been committed by the team scoring the goal. If the goalkeeper throws the ball directly into the opponents' goal, a goal kick is awarded.

THE TIME OF SEASON/MOTIVATION: While a club battling for a league title is going to be hungry for a win, as is a side that is fighting to stay up, a club that has already won the title or has already been relegated is unlikely to work as hard, and often rest players as well. THE REFEREE: Of course, when referee's send players off it make a massive impact on a match, but even if he is just awarding a yellow card then it can affect the outcome of the game as the player booked is less likely to go in as hard for the rest of the match.

SUBSTITUTES: The whole point of substitutes is for them to be able to come on and impact a match. Subs not only bring on a fresh pair of legs that are less tired than starters and more likely to track back and push forward, but can also play crucial roles in the formation of a team.

MIND GAMES/MANAGERS: Playing mind games has almost become a regular routine for top level managers, and rightly so. Just a simple mind game can do so much to impact a match, a good example coming from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Per his autobiography, when Manchester United were losing late on in a match at a certain point he would tap his watch and make sure to let the opposition know he is signalling this to his players. United's opposition already know that United have a tendency to come back from behind, and upon seeing this gesture they will think that United are going to come back. And because scientific studies prove that living creatures are more likely to accept things that have happened before than not - horses are more likely to lose to a horse they have already lost to in a race even if they are on an even playing field - they often succumb to a loss.

FORM/INJURIES/FIXTURES: A team on better form is more likely to win a match than if they have been on a poor run of form, while a team in the middle of a condensed run of fixtures is less likely to win than a well rested team. These are just some of the things that affect matches - if you have any other just mention them in the comment section below and I'll try to add them in!

    Description

Over the five years through 2024-25, sports clubs' revenue is expected to inch down at a compound annual rate of 0.3% to £16.2 billion. This is primarily due to COVID-19 causing revenue to plunge by 21.3% in 2020-21. Despite this setback, the industry has rebounded, thanks to the growing popularity of the Premier League and increasing match-day revenue. Premier League football clubs are spearheading this growth, whose substantial investments have elevated the league's reputation and quality. The league's success in Europe, securing three Champions League titles since 2018-19, has also bolstered its reputation, spurring further sponsorship deals and revenue growth. The new Champions League format in 2024-25, which guarantees more games, has offered revenue another boost through higher match-day revenue. Although this has only impacted the biggest sports club, it should also have a knock-on effect on industry revenue. The surge in interest and success in women's sports has been a key driver of the industry's expansion in recent years. The strong performance of England women's national football team in the 2022 Euros (winners) and 2023 World Cup (runners-up) has intensified interest in women's football, increasing Women's Super League viewership and attendance supporting revenue. Consequently, revenue is expected to swell by 1.7% in 2024-25. Despite the strong revenue streams of large clubs, profitability is weak, with many of the larger clubs running on losses as they prioritise results over financial gains. Larger clubs stay viable by securing loans thanks to their size, while smaller clubs depend on donations and funding to continue operating. Over the five years through 2029-30, revenue is projected to expand at a compound annual rate of 2.2% to £18.1 billion. The new £6.7 billion broadcasting Premier League, which is set to begin from 2025-26, will increase revenue for many of the sports clubs in the Premier League. Women's football will continue to grow, propelling revenue. The new men's Champions League format will also continue to spark growth for top clubs, increasing the number of games being played and offering a fifth English club the chance to qualify from the qualifying round in the 2025-26 season. Increased investment from the government will also contribute to growth for smaller clubs over the next five years. For example, an additional £9 million from the government has been allocated to UK Sport to support British athletes in preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Hello! I'm a French engineering student and I'm very interested in data analysis. I'm also a huge fan of football, and I wanted to mix both by studying the penalties of some european football championships.

In this dataset, I included data from Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A (in two separate tables) and Champions League (until the row of 8). I collected the data thanks to the mobile app "Match en Direct", going match by match to see if there was any penalty taken or not, and adding the data in an Excel sheet.

My goal is to see if it is possible to make some links between the succes in a penalty and some factors such as the moment of the game, the score of the game when the penalty is taken, home/away team, the player's main position on the pitch, if the penalty taker is a sub or not...

I started by studying all this in my Excel sheet and found out some interesting facts, but I want to improve my analysis by doing it with a notebook here on Kaggle.

I am very new in this data analysis field, so if you have any suggestion, i will be happy to listen!
