Food price increases hit the egg category the hardest between December 2021 and December 2024 in the United States. The price of eggs increased by **** percent in 2024.

In the United States, online grocery prices hit a five-year peak in September 2022, when they registered a **** percent year-over-year increase. In the country, the prices of grocery products available online have increased continuously prior to 2024. However, the prices of grocery products have seen decreases since February 2025. In July 2025, the online grocery prices lowered by **** percent, marking an unprecedented period of inflation.

In general, the most expensive areas to live were Hawaii, Alaska, the Northeast, and the West Coast. The least expensive areas were the Midwest and Southern states.

Cities across the nation participate in the Council for Community & Economic Research (C2ER) survey on a volunteer basis. Price information in the survey is governed by C2ER collection guidelines which strive for uniformity.

The entries for Ontario, British Columbia, and Remote were added manually for my use case.

Food prices increased at the fastest pace in more than two decades from July 2021 to July 2022. We show that this increase has not been driven by commodity prices but by an increase in consumer spending on food at home and increases in costs along the supply chain. Our results suggest that food inflation could ease if consumers shift more purchases back to food service establishments and if costs in food processing and marketing abate. Conversely, food inflation could remain high if broader measures of inflation persist.
