    Description

The world's population first reached one billion people in 1805, and reached eight billion in 2022, and will peak at almost 10.2 billion by the end of the century. Although it took thousands of years to reach one billion people, it did so at the beginning of a phenomenon known as the demographic transition; from this point onwards, population growth has skyrocketed, and since the 1960s the population has increased by one billion people every 12 to 15 years. The demographic transition sees a sharp drop in mortality due to factors such as vaccination, sanitation, and improved food supply; the population boom that follows is due to increased survival rates among children and higher life expectancy among the general population; and fertility then drops in response to this population growth. Regional differences The demographic transition is a global phenomenon, but it has taken place at different times across the world. The industrialized countries of Europe and North America were the first to go through this process, followed by some states in the Western Pacific. Latin America's population then began growing at the turn of the 20th century, but the most significant period of global population growth occurred as Asia progressed in the late-1900s. As of the early 21st century, almost two-thirds of the world's population lives in Asia, although this is set to change significantly in the coming decades. Future growth The growth of Africa's population, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, will have the largest impact on global demographics in this century. From 2000 to 2100, it is expected that Africa's population will have increased by a factor of almost five. It overtook Europe in size in the late 1990s, and overtook the Americas a few years later. In contrast to Africa, Europe's population is now in decline, as birth rates are consistently below death rates in many countries, especially in the south and east, resulting in natural population decline. Similarly, the population of the Americas and Asia are expected to go into decline in the second half of this century, and only Oceania's population will still be growing alongside Africa. By 2100, the world's population will have over three billion more than today, with the vast majority of this concentrated in Africa. Demographers predict that climate change is exacerbating many of the challenges that currently hinder progress in Africa, such as political and food instability; if Africa's transition is prolonged, then it may result in further population growth that would place a strain on the region's resources, however, curbing this growth earlier would alleviate some of the pressure created by climate change.

    Description

This statistic shows the 20 countries with the highest population growth rate in 2024. In SouthSudan, the population grew by about 4.65 percent compared to the previous year, making it the country with the highest population growth rate in 2024. The global population Today, the global population amounts to around 7 billion people, i.e. the total number of living humans on Earth. More than half of the global population is living in Asia, while one quarter of the global population resides in Africa. High fertility rates in Africa and Asia, a decline in the mortality rates and an increase in the median age of the world population all contribute to the global population growth. Statistics show that the global population is subject to increase by almost 4 billion people by 2100. The global population growth is a direct result of people living longer because of better living conditions and a healthier nutrition. Three out of five of the most populous countries in the world are located in Asia. Ultimately the highest population growth rate is also found there, the country with the highest population growth rate is Syria. This could be due to a low infant mortality rate in Syria or the ever -expanding tourism sector.

    Description

Whereas the population is expected to decrease somewhat until 2100 in Asia, Europe, and South America, it is predicted to grow significantly in Africa. While there were 1.55 billion inhabitants on the continent at the beginning of 2025, the number of inhabitants is expected to reach 3.81 billion by 2100. In total, the global population is expected to reach nearly 10.18 billion by 2100. Worldwide population In the United States, the total population is expected to steadily increase over the next couple of years. In 2024, Asia held over half of the global population and is expected to have the highest number of people living in urban areas in 2050. Asia is home to the two most populous countries, India and China, both with a population of over one billion people. However, the small country of Monaco had the highest population density worldwide in 2024. Effects of overpopulation Alongside the growing worldwide population, there are negative effects of overpopulation. The increasing population puts a higher pressure on existing resources and contributes to pollution. As the population grows, the demand for food grows, which requires more water, which in turn takes away from the freshwater available. Concurrently, food needs to be transported through different mechanisms, which contributes to air pollution. Not every resource is renewable, meaning the world is using up limited resources that will eventually run out. Furthermore, more species will become extinct which harms the ecosystem and food chain. Overpopulation was considered to be one of the most important environmental issues worldwide in 2020.

    Description

The statistic shows the total population of India from 2020 to 2030. In 2024, the estimated total population in India amounted to approximately 1.44 billion people. Total population in India India currently has the second-largest population in the world and is projected to overtake top-ranking China within forty years. Its residents comprise more than one-seventh of the entire world’s population, and despite a slowly decreasing fertility rate (which still exceeds the replacement rate and keeps the median age of the population relatively low), an increasing life expectancy adds to an expanding population. In comparison with other countries whose populations are decreasing, such as Japan, India has a relatively small share of aged population, which indicates the probability of lower death rates and higher retention of the existing population. With a land mass of less than half that of the United States and a population almost four times greater, India has recognized potential problems of its growing population. Government attempts to implement family planning programs have achieved varying degrees of success. Initiatives such as sterilization programs in the 1970s have been blamed for creating general antipathy to family planning, but the combined efforts of various family planning and contraception programs have helped halve fertility rates since the 1960s. The population growth rate has correspondingly shrunk as well, but has not yet reached less than one percent growth per year. As home to thousands of ethnic groups, hundreds of languages, and numerous religions, a cohesive and broadly-supported effort to reduce population growth is difficult to create. Despite that, India is one country to watch in coming years. It is also a growing economic power; among other measures, its GDP per capita was expected to triple between 2003 and 2013 and was listed as the third-ranked country for its share of the global gross domestic product.

    Description

Genetic effects are often overlooked in endangered species monitoring, and populations showing positive growth are often assumed to be secure. However, the continued reproductive success of a few individuals may mask issues such as inbreeding depression, especially in long-lived species. Here, we test for inbreeding depression in little spotted kiwi (Apteryx owenii) by comparing a population founded with two birds to one founded with 40 birds, both from the same source population and both showing positive population growth. We used a combination of microsatellite genotypes, nest observations and modelling to examine the consequences of assessing population viability exclusively via population growth. We demonstrate (i) significantly lower hatching success despite significantly higher reproductive effort in the population with two founders; (ii) positive growth in the population with two founders is mainly driven by ongoing chick production of the founding pair; and (iii) a substantial genetic load in the population founded with two birds (10–15 diploid lethal equivalents). Our results illustrate that substantial, cryptic inbreeding depression may still be present when a population is growing, especially in long-lived species with overlapping generations.

    Agricultural Drones Market Outlook

The global agricultural drones market size was valued at approximately USD 1.2 billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach around USD 4.5 billion by 2032, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 15.5% during the forecast period. This rapid growth is fueled by the increasing adoption of precision farming techniques and the need for advanced agricultural practices to ensure food security and optimize resource use.

One of the primary growth factors driving the agricultural drones market is the escalating global demand for food due to the growing population. With the world population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, there is immense pressure on the agricultural sector to produce more food efficiently. Agricultural drones offer a revolutionary approach by enhancing various farming practices such as crop monitoring, soil analysis, and irrigation management. These drones provide real-time data and analytics, allowing farmers to make informed decisions that enhance crop yield and reduce waste.

Another significant factor contributing to the market's growth is the increasing technological advancements in drone technology. Modern agricultural drones are equipped with high-resolution cameras, multispectral sensors, and advanced GPS systems that provide detailed insights into crop health and soil conditions. These technological innovations enable farmers to detect issues such as pest infestations, nutrient deficiencies, and water stress at an early stage, thereby mitigating risks and improving crop productivity. Additionally, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms in drones is further enhancing their capabilities and efficiency.

Pest and Disease Detection Drone technology is becoming increasingly vital in modern agriculture. These drones are equipped with advanced sensors and imaging capabilities that allow them to identify early signs of pest infestations and diseases in crops. By flying over fields and capturing high-resolution images, these drones can detect subtle changes in plant health that may indicate the presence of pests or diseases. This early detection enables farmers to take timely action, applying targeted treatments to affected areas and preventing the spread of infestations. The use of Pest and Disease Detection Drones not only helps in safeguarding crop yields but also reduces the reliance on chemical pesticides, promoting more sustainable farming practices. As the agricultural sector continues to embrace precision farming, the demand for these specialized drones is expected to grow significantly.

The favorable regulatory environment in several countries is also playing a crucial role in the market's expansion. Governments across the globe are recognizing the potential of agricultural drones to transform farming practices and are implementing supportive policies and initiatives. For instance, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States has established regulations that facilitate the commercial use of drones in agriculture. Similarly, countries in Europe and Asia-Pacific are also adopting drone-friendly policies, which are expected to boost the adoption of agricultural drones in these regions.

From a regional perspective, North America currently holds the largest market share in the agricultural drones market, driven by the early adoption of advanced technologies and the presence of key market players. However, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to witness the highest growth rate during the forecast period. This growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for food, rising awareness about precision farming, and supportive government initiatives. Countries like China, India, and Japan are at the forefront of adopting drone technology in agriculture, which is expected to drive the market's growth in this region.

    Product Type Analysis

The agricultural drones market can be segmented based on product type into fixed-wing drones, rotary blade drones, and hybrid drones. Fixed-wing drones are known for their ability to cover large areas quickly and efficiently, making them ideal for extensive farming operations. These drones can fly for longer durations and at higher altitudes, providing comprehensive aerial surveys of large agricultural fields. As a result, fixed-wing drones are widely used for crop monitoring, soil analysis, and mapping.

    Description

In 2024, the population of Africa was projected to grow by 2.27 percent compared to the previous year. The population growth rate on the continent has been constantly over 2.5 percent from 2000 onwards, and it peaked at 2.63 percent in 2013. Despite a slowdown in the growth rate after that, the continent's population will continue to increase significantly in the coming years. The second-largest population worldwide In 2023, the total population of Africa amounted to almost 1.5 billion. The number of inhabitants had grown steadily in the previous decades, rising from approximately 831 million in 2000. Driven by a decreasing mortality rate and a higher life expectancy at birth, the African population was forecast to increase to about 2.5 billion individuals by 2050. Africa is currently the second most populous continent worldwide after Asia. However, forecasts showed that Africa could gradually close the gap and almost reach the size of the Asian population in 2100. By that year, Africa might count 3.8 billion people, compared to 4.6 billion in Asia. The world's youngest continent The median age in Africa corresponded to 19.2 years in 2024. Although the median age has increased in recent years, the continent remains the youngest worldwide. In 2023, roughly 40 percent of the African population was aged 15 years and younger, compared to a global average of 25 percent. Africa recorded not only the highest share of youth but also the smallest elderly population worldwide. As of the same year, only three percent of Africa's population was aged 65 years and older. Africa and Latin America were the only regions below the global average of ten percent. On the continent, Niger, Uganda, and Angola were the countries with the youngest population in 2023.

Reds Wolman Lecture Background: The Wolman Lecture is named after M. Gordon “Reds” Wolman (1924-2010). Wolman was a prominent and much-beloved fluvial geomorphologist who taught at Johns Hopkins University from 1958 until his death in 2010. He advanced the quantitative and interdisciplinary study of rivers, contributed to solving a multitude of water management problems around the world, and was well-known for his insight, humor, and thoughtful mentoring of dozens of graduate students.

"A water-centric view of the climate-FEW-society nexus" Speaker: George M. Hornberger (Vanderbilt University)

Food, energy, and water (FEW) are primary resources required for human populations and ecosystems. The large and growing water demands for agricultural production are well known, water can be a significant constraint in electricity production, and the use of arable land for biofuels represents tradeoff decisions at the FEW nexus. Climate change will affect water availability. Increased demand for FEW resources from population growth and lifestyle changes will result in increased competition for limited resources, which will impact financial decisions. Both water quantity and water quality considerations of FEW interactions need to be taken into account explicitly because there are important feedbacks between quantity and quality aspects of the interactions. It is also important to take FEW resources into account during adaptation planning, as highlighted by recent events in the US when many citizens lost ready access to food, electricity, and drinking water in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

Managing the FEW resources concurrently is a seemingly wicked problem involving an apparent trilemma from a sustainability and resiliency perspective. A core challenge is to develop an integrative understanding that embodies processes and feedbacks at a level of detail that allows evaluation of alternatives in these complex systems and therefore can support integrated management.

Advances in hydrological science clearly are critical to the enterprise of determining how to achieve global goals for developing and using FEW resources sustainably, especially in the face of a changing climate and a growing population. Among the needs are new and expanded data acquisition, analyses and syntheses of multi-sectoral data and information, and integrative modeling. In my presentation, I will review some of the critical needs and illustrate them using a few nascent research results.

The solid segment is estimated to witness significant growth during the forecast period. Soil fumigants are essential pesticide formulations that transform from a liquid or solid into a gas state to eliminate soil-borne pests. These pesticides are available as granules, liquefied gases, or volatile liquids, which are applied to the soil. Upon application, the fumigant is absorbed into the soil, allowing hazardous molecules to pass through the soil's air pores. The volatile nature of these chemicals causes them to volatilize immediately, making it crucial for the pests to come into contact with a lethal concentration for an extended period.

Further, methyl bromide is a widely used soil fumigant, effective against various pests that threaten the growth of root and tuber crops, fruits, and vegetables. The application of these pesticides ensures the protection of crops from soil pests, enhancing agricultural productivity. The high volatility of soil fumigants necessitates proper application techniques to maximize their efficacy and minimize potential environmental risks.

    Description

As per Cognitive Market Research's latest published report, the Global Eszopiclone market size was $2,022.10 Million in 2024 and it is forecasted to reach $2,607.15 Million by 2030. Eszopiclone Industry's Compound Annual Growth Rate was 4.30% from 2024 to 2031. Market Dynamics of the Eszopiclone Market

Driving Factor of the Eszopiclone Market

The Need for Eszopiclone as a Therapy Option is Being Driven by the Rising Prevalence of Insomnia and Sleep Disorders.

Insomnia and other sleep problems are becoming more common, and this is a major market driver for eszopiclone. There has been an apparent increase in recent years in the number of people who have trouble falling asleep or keeping up a regular sleep schedule. For instance, in the US, more than 50 million people suffer from sleep disorders. Additionally, almost 100 million Americans of all ages state that they don't get enough sleep. This trend can be attached to a number of things, including as the busy and stressful lifestyles that many people lead, the rising incidence of anxiety disorders and stress-related illnesses, and the rising usage of electronic devices before bed, which can interfere with normal sleep and wake times. For instance, according to the Centers for disease control and prevention, not getting enough sleep leads to many chronic diseases.

In the United States, around 29% of adult females and approximately 28% of adult males reported having problems falling asleep last night, respectively. The need for efficient therapies has significantly increased as these sleep-related problems become increasingly prevalent. Eszopiclone has become well-known in the field of medicine as a drug used to treat insomnia by making it easier for patients to fall asleep and remain asleep all night. Eszopiclone has developed into a useful therapy option for doctors to recommend as patients are increasingly seeking responses to their sleep issues.

The effects of insomnia go well beyond simple lack of sleep; they may have a significant influence on a person's general health and quality of life. Chronic insomnia can raise the chance of developing certain medical illnesses as well as cause exhaustion, cognitive decline, mood swings, and other problems. For instance, in accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and the International Classification of Sleep Disorders (ICSD-3), chronic insomnia is defined as a lack of satisfaction with the quantity or quality of sleep that occurs at least three nights per week for at least three months. A diagnosis of insomnia disorder also requires that sleep issues persist despite having enough time to sleep and result in at least one daily impairment that has an impact on social, occupational, or other critical areas of functioning.

Therefore, treating insomnia with drugs like eszopiclone is crucial for both increasing sleep quality and reducing these related health concerns.

The Growing Elderly Population is Driving the Demand for the Eszopiclone Market

The market for Eszopiclone is mostly driven by the aging population because of this group's higher prevalence of sleep issues. An increased frequency of sleep-related disorders, particularly insomnia, among older persons is naturally correlated with changing demographic patterns and the aging of a sizable segment of the worldwide population. For instance, around 50% to 70% of the people who are above the age of 65 years have symptoms of insomnia. Insomnia is more common among elderly people than among younger people. As the number of elderly population increase, there would be increase in sleep related issue in the particular demographics which may result in the increase in demand for Eszopiclone medicine.

After a series of orderly declines, the old population growth rate in India experienced an enormous increase starting in 2001. The growth rate was predicted to be five times that of the whole population between 2021 and 2031. As people become older, insomnia, which is characterized by problems falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting restorative sleep, becomes more common and chronic. Medical diseases include chronic pain, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory illnesses, all of which can interfere with sleep, regularly cause sleep disruptions in elderly people. Additionally, aging-related metabolic changes and consumption of drugs may result in side effects that in...

    Description

The deployment of public electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) is a critical component of transportation electrification. Recent studies have highlighted growing concerns about disparities in accessibility to public chargers between different demographic groups. This research expands ongoing equity concerns by contextualizing existing transportation equity discourse and analyzing public charger access disparities in Austin, Texas. Using threshold equity toolkits, we investigated public EVCS access disparity across different races and income groups. We conducted a generalized additive model regression to measure and visualize the effects of possible determinants on public EVCS access. The analysis results revealed that a public EVCS access disparity exists in Austin, with most chargers being installed in areas where the majority of the population is Non-Hispanic White. There was a more equal distribution of public EVCSs across income quartiles when compared with race. However, middle- and high-income groups had better access than lower-income communities in terms of distance to the nearest public EVCSs. Our regression analysis found that regional and socio-demographic factors, such as race and income, have a statistically significant impact on public charger access. The regression analysis also revealed that Austin’s current public EVCS deployment seems to favor communities above the poverty level and with higher numbers of registered electric vehicles. Local policymakers should reflect on the findings of this study to develop an equitable transportation electrification plan. Federal environmental justice plans such as the Justice40 initiative can benefit from incorporating more local contexts to better invest in disadvantaged communities.
