Download .zipA soil mapping unit designates a specific type of soil which has unique characteristics including texture, slope, and erosion class.

This coverage was converted to digital format from a recompilation of the original soil survey onto a USGS quadrangle base enlarged to a scale of 1:15840 from the digital line graph files of the quadrangles. The original soil survey was published in February of 1980. Recompilation was accomplished by soil scientists from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Soil and Water Conservation. The individual quadrangle maps were scanned by a commercial data conversion firm at a density of 500 dots per inch and then converted to ARC Grid format. The GRID files for each quadrangle were then converted to ARC/INFO coverages and edited through various software routines and manual heads-up digitizing. Quadrangle coverages were converted to state plane coordinates, edgematched and then joined into a final county coverage. Because the quadrangle base is in NAD27 all work was done in NAD 27.

Download .zipThe analysis for limitations for large scale development was completed by considering several different factors including depth to bedrock, bedrock type glacial geology, and ground water availability as well as percent of slope and flooding potential.

The soils used in this analysis were digitized from the paper final soil survey field sheets. These sheets were taped together to form an area covering each of the USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle maps in the county. The areas for each quadrangle were then digitized using run-length encoding technique sampling along horizontal lines which represented the midline of cells with a height of 250 feet. The measurement increment along these lines was one decafoot (10 feet). The quadrangle files were then merged into a county file which has subsequently been converted to Arc/Info format.

The user should bear in mind that this coverage is only an approximation of the soil survey and should not be used for site specific analysis.

Its county seat is Washington Court House. Fayette County was formed on March 1, 1810 from portions of Highland County and Ross County. It was named after Marie-Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, a French general and politician who took the side of the Colonials during the American Revolutionary War and who played an important role in the French Revolution.Fayette County is a part of the Virginia Military survey, which was reserved in 1783, to be allotted to Virginia soldiers. The deed of conveyance was made December 1, 1810, by Thomas S. Hind, attorney for Temple, to Robert Stewart, who was appointed by the legislature as director for the town of Washington. Download .zipThis coverage land represents an interpretation of land use and land cover types done from aerial photography by the ODNR GIS Services, Division of Real Estate and Land Management. Land use/ land cover was simultaneously interpreted and digitized into an ArcView shapefile for each 7.5 minute quadrangle in the county using the Digital Transfer Scope Extension. Background reference themes of roads, railroads hydrography and political boundaries from the USGS 1:24000 DLG's were used as an aid to interpretation. Photos were registered to the background layers as closely as possible. The background themes were then warped to fit the photos. A minimum of four control points were used in each photo. After interpretation the lines were unwarped back to the proper coordinates. Using several Arc/Info programs and software routines the shapefiles were converted into Arc/Info coverages, edgematched, and joined into a county coverage. The Ohio Wetlands Inventory for Franklin County was produced from April 1987 Landsat Thematic mapper data (cell size 30 meters by 30 meters) using ERDAS Image processing software. The raster data has been converted to ARC/INFO format and exported to an interchange file.

The data was originally georeferenced to UTM zone 17 coordinates NAD 27 and is also available in this coordinate system in ERDAS Imagine format.

The class of woods on hydric soils, wet meadow and farmed wetland fall on hydric soils when digital soils data is available for the county.

A Joint Economic Development Zone (JEDZ) is an arrangement in Ohio where one or more municipalities and a township agree to work together to develop township land for commercial or industrial purposes. The benefit to the municipality is that they get a portion of the taxes levied in the JEDZ without having to annex it. The benefits to the township are that it does not lose prime development land, it can still collect property taxes as well as a portion of the income tax collected, and it normally receives water from the municipality, which it may not otherwise have.

This point layer contains properties that are registered with the Franklin County Auditor as rental properties. This is not an exhaustive list of rental properties, however it is all properties that are have an active rental registration on file with the Auditor's office. This layer is regenerated weekly. The parcel centroid values are utilized to create these points with condominium units being spatially accurate.
