    Description

    What happens to patients with cancer engaged in biomedical research when intellectual property regimes and ethical regimes intersect? This qualitative historical study addresses this question by situating the experiences, hopes, and reasons of patients to enter clinical trials within the historical trajectory of informed consent and monoclonal antibodies, the biotechnology underpinning many targeted drugs used in oncological clinical trials and biobank research. Based on fieldwork we undertook in a German university hospital where we interviewed patients and the medical personnel, a historical review, and an ethical analysis we inquire into the effects that financial, legal, and technological changes connected to the relevant pharmaceutical research and commerce have on cancer patients engaged in clinical trials and biobank research. We find that the controversial aspects of monoclonal antibodies, especially those related to the commercial interests at stake, enter the informed consent process mainly in the form of informative gaps. We highlight how a qualitative analysis of the clinic, especially when it is situated against the backdrop of the history of related technological advancements and patent regime, it can serve the purpose of giving voice to subjects who are silenced by regimes of an ethical, epistemic, and commercial kind while pointing to informed consent as an unhelpful device for addressing risks arising from the commercial purposes of biomedical products and infrastructure.

    REGCHEM (Regional Exploration Geochemistry) is a database of geochemical analyses compiled from open-file mining company reports. The database contains elemental analyses of stream sediment, pan concentrate, BCL (bulk cyanide leach), BLEG (bulk leach extraction gold), soil, and rock chip samples. Entries contain information on the sample type, analytical laboratory, analytical method and detection limits, and analyses for elements in ppm (unless otherwise stated)

    New data is not being added to this database because of a lack of resourcing.

    The Regional Exploration Geochemistry (REGCHEM) database was developed and managed by GNS Science ca. 1994 to 2016. It is a comprehensive repository of geochemical analyses derived from open-file mining company exploration reports that are held by New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals (www.nzpam.govt.nz). The database includes elemental analyses of diverse geological sample types, such as stream sediments, pan concentrates, soil, and rock chip samples. It provides detailed metadata for each entry, including sample type, laboratory, analytical method, detection limits, and elemental concentrations. Initially developed to investigate geochemical trends of stream sediment samples in selected regions of New Zealand, REGCHEM was expanded to cover the entire country and several sample types. The database encompasses over 284,000 analyses from approximately 53,000 sites. Elements analysed include gold, silver, arsenic, copper, lead, zinc, and others relevant for identifying mineralisation. This database is now archived due to a lack of resourcing for maintenance and updates. The database served multiple purposes: • Identifying natural background levels and geochemical anomalies, both from mineral deposits and anthropogenic activities such as old mine workings. • Supporting mineral prospecting studies by mapping areas with economic mineralisation potential and anomalous pathfinder element concentrations. • Establishing baseline data for monitoring heavy metal pollution. • Assisting in developing genetic models for mineralisation. REGCHEM data can be visualized using a geographic information system (GIS) tool such as ArcGIS or QGIS, and when supplemented with geochemical statistical analyses, enable the spatial representation of anomalies. The database, although no longer updated due to resource limitations, may remain a tool for regional geochemical assessments and mineral exploration. The database is archived as series of CSV text format files and a logical entity relationship diagram. It is also provided in a ‘flat file’ format for quick access and analysis.     Description

    An interdisciplinary research team of engineers, geologists, and computer scientists was assembled at LSU to develop unproved methods for prospecting for bypassed oil and to support oil and gas producers in Louisiana. The overall objective of the project was to develop methods for extending the producing life of several types of reservoirs by reducing the amount of oil being bypassed and abandoned. As part of this work, the team collected information available from public sources for several example reservoirs. One task of the project was to develop a format for the compilation of the extensive but cumbersome Louisiana reservoir data so that it could be used by government and industry to evaluate the resource and plan future activities. The existing information system maintained by Louisiana is a Production Audit Reporting System (PARS). It was designed to allow auditing of oil and gas production and severance taxes associated with this production. It was not intended to be used as a database for determining reservoir recovery efficiency or prospecting for oil and gas. Its use for these purposes, however, has been increasing. The database format suggested in this report would allow production information to be easily displayed by reservoir as well as by lease, unit, or well. The data collected as part of the bypassed-oil study was used to illustrate the proposed new format. This pilot database, or atlas, contains information available for 15 reservoirs. It is recommended that LSU continue to compile and publish database information on the potential for bypassed oil in Louisiana's active reservoirs. This technology-transfer activity should focus each year on those active reservoirs involved in hearings of the Louisiana Office of Conservation. It should also focus on reservoirs being screened by LSU for EOR.

During this period of time (1985-1992) several mining prospection projects were carried out in this area on State Reserves, covering a large part of the studied area and in which current research methods were used, with positive results in the metallogenetic knowledge of the Ossa Morena area. The project comprised three distinct phases: - A first, which consisted of the collection and analysis of available geological and mining information. - A second consisted of the application of remote sensing techniques in a large area in the central part of the Ossa Morena area, which allow, on the one hand, the spectral characterization of the different materials that emerge in the work area and, on the other, the realization of the textural study and the structural analysis of the LANDSAT image guidelines. - And, thirdly, the creation of a multidisciplinary database that allows ordering and managing the large amount of information available and can also be used as a methodological tool for prospecting the area. The database was incorporated into SIGMA in 1995, when the final database versions were delivered.

By deeply analyzing the data formats of both software, a complete block file conversion process is proposed in this paper, which is verified by an actual case study. This paper not only explores technical details but also showcases practical application cases, emphasizing the importance of cross-software data conversion in improving the efficiency of geological exploration and mining planning. By optimizing the data conversion process, such as using automated scripts or plugins, the efficiency of data migration from Micromine to Surpac can be significantly improved, reducing manual input errors and accelerating project execution. This paper explores how data conversion can enable the sharing of three-dimensional geological models between two mainstream mining software programs, Micromine and Surpac. Both software programs are widely used in geological exploration and mining planning, but differences in data formats have posed obstacles to information sharing. The article proposes a complete block file conversion process and validates its effectiveness through an actual case study.
