    Description

The purpose of this program was to collect data relevant to developing year-round transportation capabilities in the Arctic Ocean. The US Maritime Administration sponsored this multi-year program to define environmental conditions in the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas; to obtain data to improve design criteria for ice-worthy ships and offshore structures; and to demonstrate the operational feasibility of commercial icebreaking ships along possible future Arctic marine routes. The research was performed using the US Coast Guard Polar Star and Polar Sea ice-class ships, which were at the time the world's most powerful non-nuclear icebreakers and the only US ships capable of mid-winter Arctic operations. The items in this data set are PDFs of Arctic Marine Transportation reports with embedded data, along with a PDF of the Achievement Record Brochure (Achievement_Record_1979_1984_Brochure.pdf), and JPEG images providing a historical context of the program. The 15 JPEG images and a PDF of accompanying captions (G02196_images_captions.pdf) are located in the images directory. The PDF reports, an Executive Summary (Executive_Summary_Arctic_Marine_Transportation_Program.pdf), and the Appendix to the Executive Summary (Executive_Summary_Arctic_Marine_Transportation_Program_Appendix_A_List_of_Reports.pdf) are located in the Arctic_Marine_Transportation_Reports directory. Note that page 33 of the Executive Summary is missing. The Appendix to the Executive Summary contains an index of reports included in this data set. This index lists 64 reports; however, out of these 64, the following reports were never included and their location is unknown: 1, 4, 36, 37, 60, 61, and 62. Also note that reports 35 and 44 come in two parts. The data cover the years 1979 to 1986 and were collected from ships in the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas. Data are available via FTP.This data is being provided as is. NOAA@NSIDC believes these data to be of value, but is unable to provide documentation. If you have information about this data set that others would find useful, please contact NSIDC User Services.

    Description

The Unpublished Digital Post-Hurricane Sandy Geomorphological-GIS Map of the Gateway National Recreation Area: Sandy Hook, Jamaica Bay and Staten Island Units, New Jersey and New York is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables in a 10.1 file geodatabase (gate_geomorphology.gdb), a 10.1 ArcMap (.MXD) map document (gate_geomorphology.mxd), individual 10.1 layer (.LYR) files for each GIS data layer, an ancillary map information (.PDF) document (gate_geomorphology.pdf) which contains source map unit descriptions, as well as other source map text, figures and tables, metadata in FGDC text (.TXT) and FAQ (.HTML) formats, and a GIS readme file (gate_gis_readme.pdf). Please read the gate_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the file geodatabase and other map files. To request GIS data in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format contact Stephanie O’Meara (stephanie.omeara@colostate.edu; see contact information below). The data is also available as a 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. Google Earth software is available for free at: http://www.google.com/earth/index.html. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: Rutgers University Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (gate_metadata_faq.html; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/geology/gri_data/gis/gate/gate_metadata_faq.html). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:6,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 5.08 meters or 16.67 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm). The GIS data projection is NAD83, UTM Zone 18N, however, for the KML/KMZ format the data is projected upon export to WGS84 Geographic, the native coordinate system used by Google Earth. The data is within the area of interest of Gateway National Recreation Area.

    Description

**THIS NEWER 2016 DIGITAL MAP REPLACES THE OLDER 2014 VERSION OF THE GRI GATE Geomorphological-GIS data. The Unpublished Digital Pre-Hurricane Sandy Geomorphological-GIS Map of the Staten Island Unit, Gateway National Recreation Area, New York is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables in a 10.1 file geodatabase (stis_geomorphology.gdb), a 10.1 ArcMap (.MXD) map document (stis_geomorphology.mxd), individual 10.1 layer (.LYR) files for each GIS data layer, an ancillary map information (.PDF) document (gate_geology.pdf) which contains source map unit descriptions, as well as other source map text, figures and tables, metadata in FGDC text (.TXT) and FAQ (.HTML) formats, and a GIS readme file (gate_gis_readme.pdf). Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (stis_pre-sandy_metadata_faq.html; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/geology/gri_data/gis/gate/stis_pre-sandy_metadata_faq.html).

    Description

This map shows monitoring efforts and positive detections of the European Green Crab aquatic invasive species made during sampling done by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, beginning in 2006. Data are geographically organized by Pacific Fishery Management Areas (PFMA). The map allows for comparison of this data with known locations of eelgrass habitat, which can be negatively impacted by European Green Crab as they create burrows, dig for prey, or eat the eelgrass shoots. Data for Eelgrass Polygons (2009) were acquired from the British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis here. European Green Crab data were accessed from the Government of Canada Open Data Portal here, using the provided European_Green_Crab_British _Columbia esri Feature Layer. This dataset was then altered to include data for positive detections from 2019 to 2021, which were provided to the Strait of Georgia Data Centre by DFO.
