Definition For the purposes of this dataset, Rail or Railway is defined as: A transportation system using one or more rails to carry freight or passengers. Abstract The Foundation Rail Infrastructure feature dataset is part of the Foundation Spatial Data Framework theme for Transport. The Foundation Rail Infrastructure feature dataset is specifically made up of Rail line features (Railways, Rail Sidings and Tramline including Light Rail) and Rail points (Stations). This feature class represents a national aggregation of the spatial locations and attributes of line and point features, of publicly available data. Rail Infrastructure information has been derived from various sources provided by data custodians including Spatial Services (NSW), Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (QLD), Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (VIC), Land Tasmania (TAS) and Department of Infrastructure and Transport (SA). The coverage is across all states and territories however due to restrictive licensing, Geoscience Australia data was used as the source data for Western Australia (lines and points), the Northern Territory (lines and points) and South Australia (points). Data published by Victoria falling within South Australia has been included (points). Further information on datasets provided by State and Territory custodians can be found under Source Information in this metadata statement. Currency Date modified: 7 June 2021 Modification frequency: As needed Data extent Spatial extent North: -12.424680° South: -43.455040° East: 153.613384° West: 113.616611° Source information eCat published version at https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/145400 Lineage statement Data supplied to Geoscience Australia from the custodians was processed to perform geometry validation (checks to remove corrupt geometries) and transform the attribute values to the national schema. Minor spatial modifications have taken place to update attribute information in the source data for the national specification. During translation, the length of the features in kilometres was also calculated (LENGTH_KM) using a geodesic distance calculation. The Digital Atlas data team have republished and hosted the data as three separate layers:
Railways, Rail Sidings, Tram Lines.
The symbology applied displays the layers as operational or not operational, however queries can be performed using any operational status, refer to the data dictionary for filters and query options. The date of extraction May 2023. Data dictionary Railway Lines

This dynamic map service includes Rail Switchyards in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The dataset includes rail yard data identified in a data collection effort by the fifteen Kentucky Area Development Districts. Attributes were derived from their data collection and/or from review of available aerial photography. Limitations of the data: Locations and functions have not been verified with the operating railroads. Boundaries are generally digitzed by review of the available aerial photography and may include more or less property than owned/managed by the railroad.

The Information technology Department (ITD) contracted GPI Geospatial, Inc. (GPI) LB 6748, operating under the authority of Miami-Dade County Aviation Department, as per contract number E15-MDAD-01 for the development of this version of the Rail layer. This planimetric layer has been created to illustrate the railroad lines within the Urban Development Boundary (UDB) and outside the UDB, approximately 938 square miles. All linework was collected from the Woolpert 2019 orthophotography. This feature class is considered a new rail feature class instead of an update to the existing layer. All railroads within the area of interest were included. Linework was digitized in segments with attributes: RAIL_ELEVATION and SEGMENT_TYPE. Values for field RAIL_ELEVATION = {тАЬGroundтАЭ, тАЬElevatedтАЭ} where: тАЬGroundтАЭ = Railroad segment is built on the ground; тАЬElevatedтАЭ = Railroad segment is not built on the ground.Values for field SEGMENT_TYPE = {Rail-Street_Intersection, Railroad_Bridge, Railroad_Station}; where: Rail-Street _Intersection = Segment of railroad that intersects road. Railroad_Bridge= Intended for actual Railroad Bridges, not just any elevated railroad segment. Railroad_Station = Segment of the railroad in the vicinity/area of the physical building of a station.Updated: Not Planned The data was created using: Projected Coordinate System: WGS_1984_Web_Mercator_Auxiliary_SphereProjection: Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere

The USGS Transportation downloadable data from The National Map (TNM) is based on TIGER/Line data provided through U.S. Census Bureau and supplemented with HERE road data to create tile cache base maps. Some of the TIGER/Line data includes limited corrections done by USGS. Transportation data consists of roads, railroads, trails, airports, and other features associated with the transport of people or commerce. The data include the name or route designator, classification, and location. Transportation data support general mapping and geographic information system technology analysis for applications such as traffic safety, congestion mitigation, disaster planning, and emergency response. The National Map transportation data is commonly combined with other data themes, such as boundaries, elevation, hydrography, and structure ...

The geometric data outside the national territory that is included in this cartographic base does not imply any opinion on the part of the National Geographic Institute regarding its legal status and are generated for a scale of 1/10,000,000. A digital terrain model with hillshading is also included.
