The 'GISCO NUTS 2006' dataset represents the NUTS regions by means of region, arc and point topology. The NUTS geographical information is completed by attribute tables and a set of cartographic help lines to better visualise multipart polygonal regions. The NUTS nomenclature is a hierarchical classification of statistical regions defined by Eurostat. The NUTS classification subdivides the EU economic territory into 3 statistical levels. The Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the establishment of a common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) was enforced the 11 July 2003. This regulation provided the NUTS classification with a legal background. Since then, 12 new countries joined the European Union. The NUTS regulation was officially enforced in these 12 countries the day of their accession to the EU. A non official NUTS-like classification has been defined for the EFTA countries, Croatia and Türkiye. For further information about the NUTS classification please check the RAMON Eurostat site at http://ec.europa.eu/comm/eurostat/ramon/nuts/home_regions_en.html At present, six scale ranges (100K, 1M, 3M, 10M and 20M, 60M) are maintained in the GISCO geodatabase. The polygon and boundary classes delineate the regions while the points provide a label for each region. Associated tables contain basic information such as the region's name. This feature class represents the polygon geometry of the 1:100.000 scale level of the NUTS regions. This shapefile was modified by the ETC-LUSI with the purpose of including this dataset into the LEAC System.

Classification of the Functions of Government (COFOG) is a classification defined by the United Nations Statistics Division. Its purpose is to "classify the purpose of transactions such as outlays on final consumption expenditure, intermediate consumption, gross capital formation and capital and current transfers, by general government" (from home page).
These functions are designed to be general enough to apply to the government of different countries. The accounts of each country in the United Nations are presented under these categories.
The value of this is that the accounts of different countries can be compared.
Data was sourced from UN site and extracted using the scripts found in the datapkg. In addition to the UN site, versions of COFOG can also be found on Eurostat with one advantage of the Eurostat data being the availability of additional languages (e.g. German).
Gdocs version was derived from full csv (itself extracted by code in datapkg package -- which includes the csv). Gdocs version is editable and has had additional material added by community.
No license specified but factual data and extraction and normalization of the csv file done by Maintainer.

This table contains sales data of industrial production, broken down into product groups based on the PRODCOM classification ("PRODuction COMmunautaire", a list of industrial products established by the European Union). As of 2009, the layout of the PRODCOM has been adjusted. Statistics Netherlands therefore switched to the new classification for the 2008 statistical year. Various link tables are available on the Eurostat website. The production data are expressed in value amounts and sales are also available in quantities for parts. Data available from: 1993 Frequency: DISCONTINUED Status of the figures: All figures are final. Change as of 18 June 2010: Some results for the period 2006-2007 have been slightly adjusted due to additional information from respondents. When will new numbers come out? There will be no more new figures, the table has been discontinued on 1 July 2009. Figures based on the new ProdCom code list 2008 can be found in the StatLine publication Sell; industrial products".

The API is a measure of the monthly price changes in agricultural outputs and inputs for the UK. The output series reflects the price farmers receive for their products, also referred to as farm gate price. Information is collected for all major crops (for example wheat and potatoes) and on livestock and livestock products (for example sheep, milk and eggs). The input series reflects the price farmers pay for goods and services. This is split into two groups: goods and services currently consumed; and goods and services contributing to investment. Goods and services currently consumed refer to items that are used up in the production process, for example fertiliser, or seed. Goods and services contributing to investment relate to items that are required but not consumed in the production process, such as tractors or buildings.
The current indices are based on the year 2015 =100. The methodology used is standardised across EU member states and is described in the http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/Handbook%20for%20EU%20Agricultural%20Price%20Statistics%202008.pdf" class="govuk-link">Handbook for EU Agricultural Price Statistics.

This study employs the Economic Complexity Index (ECI) and the Economic Fitness Index (EFI) as two different measures of economic complexity. The ECI is based on the methodology developed by Hausmann et al. (2014b), while the EFI was introduced by Tacchella et al. (2012) and later improved by Servedio et al. (2018) and Operti et al. (2018).
We used the International Trade Database at the Product Level (BACI) to determine global product complexities. The BACI dataset includes detailed export data for over 200 countries and territories. To ensure accuracy and eliminate fluctuations in export data, Hidalgo (2021) recommends excluding countries with exports of less than 1 billion US dollars, countries with a population of less than 1 million, and products with a global export value of less than 500 million US dollars from the dataset. To avoid endogeneity issues, we followed Boschma et al. (2013) and excluded Turkey from the sample. After cleaning the data in accordance with Hidalgo (2021) and Boschma et al. (2013), we calculated global product complexities for 124 to 141 countries from 2007 to 2020.
Since foreign trade statistics of provinces obtained from TURKSTAT are classified according to Standard International Trade Classification (SITC revision 3) at 4-digit codes, we converted BACI dataset based on Harmonized System (HS) classification using Eurostat Metadata Server (RAMON) conversion tables.
Variables:
countrycode: NUTS-3 codes of provinces
country: Provinces
id: identification numbers (given by the authors)
gdpper: Real GDP per capita.
dist: Distance of provinces from Istanbul in kilometers
eci: Economic Complexity Index (Hidalgo et al. 2014)
fit: Economic Fitness Index (Tacchella et al. 2012, Servedio et a. 2018, Operti et al. 2018).
ind_elec_cons: Ratio of industrial electricity consumption to total electricity consumption.
education: Percentage of high school, faculty, master, and doctorate graduates in the population aged 15 and over.
reer: Real Effective Exchange Rate.
openness: Share of province-level exports and imports on total provincial GDP.
ethnicity: is calculated as the average of the votes received by Kurdish political parties in the provinces.
secim: An alternative for ethnicity. Calculated as the the ratio of the number of municipalities won by Kurdish political party mayoral candidates to the total number of municipalities in each province.
East: A dummy variable for the provinces located to the east of the capital city, Ankara, are considered as eastern provinces and are labeled as 1, while the provinces located to the west are labeled as 0 and considered as western provinces.
onuc: A dummy variable for 13 provinces that are in the scope of cross-border trade regulation are labeled as 1.
