    In April 2025, the agriculture and related private wage and salary workers industry had the highest unemployment rate in the United States, at eight percent. In comparison, government workers had the lowest unemployment rate, at 1.8 percent. The average for all industries was 3.9 percent. U.S. unemployment There are several factors that impact unemployment, as it fluctuates with the state of the economy. Unfortunately, the forecasted unemployment rate in the United States is expected to increase as we head into the latter half of the decade. Those with a bachelor’s degree or higher saw the lowest unemployment rate from 1992 to 2022 in the United States, which is attributed to the fact that higher levels of education are seen as more desirable in the workforce. Nevada unemployment Nevada is one of the states with the highest unemployment rates in the country and Vermont typically has one of the lowest unemployment rates. These are seasonally adjusted rates, which means that seasonal factors such as holiday periods and weather events that influence employment periods are removed. Nevada's economy consists of industries that are currently suffering high unemployment rates such as tourism. As of May 2023, about 5.4 percent of Nevada's population was unemployed, possibly due to the lingering impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Labour force survey (LFS) Purpose and short description The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a socio-economic household sample survey. Its main objective is to classify the working age population (15 and older) into three groups (employed, unemployed and inactive persons) and to provide descriptive and explanatory data on every category. This survey is also carried out in the other EU Member States and is coordinated by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In Belgium, the LFS is organised by Statbel. The objective is to obtain comparable information at European level, in particular as regards employment and unemployment rates as defined by the International Labour Office (ILO), but also to collect and disseminate data that are otherwise not available, for example about the mobility of workers, the reasons for working part-time, the various forms of part-time employment, the occupation, the educational level of the working age population, ... . Survey population Members of private households aged 15 or older. Sample frame Demographic data from the National Register. Data collection method and sample size Data are collected through face-to-face interviews. Since 2017, there have been three (shorter) follow-up surveys to which households respond online or by telephone. Households with only inactive persons older than 64 can also be interviewed by telephone. Every year, around 47,000 households receive a letter asking them to take part in this survey.     The statistic reflects the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in member states of the European Union in November 2024. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Spain in November 2024 was 11.2 percent.The unemployment rate represents the share of the unemployed in all potential employees available to the job market. Unemployment rates in the EU The unemployment rate is an important measure of a country or region’s economic health, and despite unemployment levels in the European Union falling slightly from a peak in early 2013 , they remain high, especially in comparison to what the rates were before the worldwide recession started in 2008. This confirms the continuing stagnation in European markets, which hits young job seekers particularly hard as they struggle to compete against older, more experienced workers for a job, suffering under jobless rates twice as high as general unemployment. Some companies, such as Microsoft and Fujitsu, have created thousands of jobs in some of the countries which have particularly dire unemployment rates, creating a beacon of hope. However, some industries such as information technology, face the conundrum of a deficit of qualified workers in the local unemployed work force, and have to hire workers from abroad instead of helping decrease the local unemployment rates. This skills mismatch has no quick solution, as workers require time for retraining to fill the openings in the growing science-, technology-, or engineering-based jobs, and too few students choose degrees that would help them obtain these positions. Worldwide unemployment also remains high, with the rates being worst in the Middle East and North Africa. Estimates by the International Labour Organization predict that the problem will stabilize in coming years, but not improve until at least 2017.

    Since 1990, the employment rate of women in the United States has stayed more or less steady, reaching a peak of 57.5 percent in 2000. In 1990, the female employment rate was 54.3 percent, and in 2024, the employment rate was 55.2. Women in the workforce There have historically been fewer women than men in the workforce. Additionally, women face many hurdles to equal treatment when they are employed, such as wage discrepancies, sexual harassment, and being expected to carry out the majority of household and family related tasks even while working full-time. Women have historically been the primary caregivers and homemakers through many cultures worldwide. Despite this, the number of women joining the workforce has increased globally. Women in history faced the additional barrier of not being able to attend university, which barred them from gaining an education and access to professional job. However, as our cultures have modernized, women have been granted equal access to university in many societies. In 2014 in the United States, the number of university degrees awarded to women exceeded that of men for the first time. In 2021, 39.1 percent of women had completed at least four years of university compared to 36.6 percent of men. Despite this, the unemployment rate of women in the United States has fluctuated significantly since 1990. In 2021, Nebraska was the state with the highest percentage of women participating in the civilian labor force, second to the District of Columbia. The wage gap Today, the wage gap is still a problem for women, although improvements have been made. There is no state in the U.S. where women earn more than men, but women in Vermont had the smallest wage gap to men in 2021. Additionally, there are no occupations in which women out-earn men, even in occupations that traditionally employ more women.     Enquête naar de arbeidskrachten (EAK) Doel en korte beschrijving De steekproefenquête naar de arbeidskrachten is een enquête bij particuliere huishoudens, die gedurende het hele jaar wordt gehouden. Ze is gebaseerd op de antwoorden van ongeveer 110.000 personen (respondenten) van 15-89 jaar. Haar voornaamste doelstelling is de populatie van 15-89 jaar op te delen in drie groepen (nl. werkende personen, werklozen en niet-beroepsactieve personen), en over elk van deze categorieën beschrijvende en verklarende gegevens te verstrekken. Deze enquête wordt ook in de andere EU-lidstaten uitgevoerd en wordt gecoördineerd door de statistische dienst van de Europese Unie, EUROSTAT. In België wordt de EAK georganiseerd door Statbel (Algemene Directie Statistiek - Statistics Belgium). De bedoeling is informatie te vergaren die op Europees vlak vergelijkbaar is, o.m. inzake werkgelegenheids- en werkloosheidscijfers overeenkomstig de definities van het Internationaal Arbeidsbureau (IAB), en daarnaast gegevens te verzamelen en te verspreiden die elders niet verkregen kunnen worden. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn mobiliteit van de werknemers, motivatie voor deeltijds werken, de verschillende vormen van tijdelijke arbeid, beroep, onderwijsniveau van de bevolking op beroepsactieve leeftijd,… Populatie Leden van privé-huishoudens van 15-89 jaar Basis van de steekproef Demografische gegevens van het Rijksregister Dataverzamelingsmethode en eventuele steekproefomvang De informatie wordt voor de eerste bevraging verzameld via face to face interviews. Gezinnen die uitsluitend bestaan uit niet-beroepsactieve personen ouder dan 64 jaar mogen ook telefonisch worden bevraagd. Jaarlijks nemen in België ongeveer 34.000 unieke huishoudens deel aan deze enquête. Respons Gemiddeld bedraagt de respons in de eerste bevraging 68% en in de opvolgbevragingen tussen de 90% en 95%. De definities over werkgelegenheid en werkloosheid die worden gehanteerd zijn die van het Internationaal Arbeidsbureau (IAB), waardoor een vergelijkbaarheid van de resultaten op internationaal vlak wordt gewaarborgd. Personen met een job (werkende personen) zijn personen die gedurende de referentieweek arbeid verrichtten ‘tegen betaling’ of met als doel ‘winst te maken’ ongeacht de duur (ook al was dit maar één uur), of die een job hadden maar tijdelijk afwezig waren. Men kan bijvoorbeeld tijdelijk afwezig zijn omwille van vakantie, ziekte, technische of economische redenen (tijdelijke werkloosheid),…. Ook de meewerkende familieleden worden tot de werkenden gerekend. Sinds 2021 worden personen die een ononderbroken periode van langer dan drie maanden tijdelijke werkloos zijn bij de werklozen of niet-beroepsactieven gerekend en niet meer bij de werkenden. Werklozen zijn alle personen die: (a) tijdens de referentieweek geen werk hadden, d.w.z. niet in loondienst of als zelfstandige werkten; (b) voor werk beschikbaar waren, d.w.z. voor werk in loondienst of als zelfstandige beschikbaar waren binnen twee weken na de referentieweek; (c) actief werk zochten, d.w.z. gedurende de laatste vier weken met inbegrip van de referentieweek gerichte stappen hadden ondernomen om werk in loondienst of als zelfstandige te zoeken, of die werk hadden gevonden en binnen ten hoogste drie maanden zouden beginnen te werken. Opgelet! De IAB‐werkloosheidscijfers staan los van een eventuele inschrijving bij VDAB, Actiris, FOREM of ADG, evenals van het ontvangen van een uitkering van de RVA, en zijn dus niet vergelijkbaar met de administratieve werkloosheidscijfers. De beroepsbevolking is samengesteld uit de werkloze en de werkende bevolking. Niet‐beroepsactieven zijn alle personen die niet beschouwd worden als personen met een betrekking of als werklozen. De werkgelegenheidsgraad geeft het percentage werkende personen in een bepaalde leeftijdsgroep weer. De werkgelegenheidsgraad in het kader van de Europa 2020‐strategie geeft het percentage werkende personen in de bevolking van 20 tot 64 jaar weer. De werkloosheidsgraad geeft het percentage werklozen in de beroepsbevolking (werkende personen + werklozen) binnen een bepaalde leeftijdsgroep weer. De activiteitsgraad geeft het percentage beroepsbevolking (werkende personen + werklozen) in de totale bevolking binnen een bepaalde leeftijdsgroep weer. Bovenstaande indicatoren (werkgelegenheidsgraad, werkloosheidsgraad en activiteitsgraad) zijn de belangrijkste indicatoren om de arbeidsmarktevolutie op internationaal niveau te vergelijken. Laaggeschoolden zijn die personen die maximaal een diploma hebben van het lager secundair onderwijs.     The unemployment rate in fiscal year 2204 rose to 3.9 percent. The unemployment rate of the United States which has been steadily decreasing since the 2008 financial crisis, spiked to 8.1 percent in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual unemployment rate of the U.S. since 1990 can be found here. Falling unemployment The unemployment rate, or the part of the U.S. labor force that is without a job, fell again in 2022 after peaking at 8.1 percent in 2020 - a rate that has not been seen since the years following the 2008 financial crisis. The financial crash caused unemployment in the U.S. to soar from 4.6 percent in 2007 to 9.6 percent in 2010. Since 2010, the unemployment rate had been steadily falling, meaning that more and more people are finding work, whether that be through full-time employment or part-time employment. However, the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic created a spike in unemployment across the country. U.S. unemployment in comparison Compared to unemployment rates in the European Union, U.S. unemployment is relatively low. Greece was hit particularly hard by the 2008 financial crisis and faced a government debt crisis that sent the Greek economy into a tailspin. Due to this crisis, and the added impact of the pandemic, Greece still has the highest unemployment rate in the European Union.

Its main objective is to classify the working age population (15 and older) into three groups (employed, unemployed and inactive persons) and to provide descriptive and explanatory data on every category.     Abstract

    The objective of PLFS is primarily on two aspects. The first is to measure the dynamics in labour force participation and employment status in the short time interval of three months for the urban areas only in the Current Weekly Status (CWS). Thus, in every quarter, PLFS will bring out the level and change estimates of the key labour force indicators in CWS viz. Worker Population Ratio (WPR), Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Unemployment Rate (UR). Secondly, for both rural and urban areas, level estimates of all important parameters in both usual status and CWS will be brought out annually.

    Geographic coverage

    12800 FSUs (7024 villages and 5776 UFS blocks) will be covered annually at all-India level.

    Sampling procedure

    A rotational panel sampling design will be used in urban area. The rotational scheme will be of two years duration to accommodate the changes in the urban frame in the intracensal period; in the sense that the sampling frames for both rural and urban areas will remain unchanged for every two-year duration. In this rotational panel scheme each selected household in urban areas will be visited four times - one with first visit schedule and other three with revisit schedule. The estimates can be given for successive quarters without any break in the series (starting from the fifth quarter), ensuring a 75% matching between consecutive quarters. Regression based estimates will not be generated. Instead, usual traditional design based estimates will be generated. The proposed design aims at generating quarterly estimates of level and change parameters of some important labour force indicators (LFPR, WPR & UR) based on CWS data in urban areas and annual estimates of level parameters based on usual status for both rural and urban areas in the line of employment & unemployment survey of NSS quinquennial round.

    Rotational panel design for urban areas

    i. The initial rotational panel will be for two years, where only 25% FSUs of urban annual allocation will be covered in the first quarter (Panel P11) with detail listing and canvassing of visit 1 schedule in the selected households; where Pij indicates the panel belonging to jthquarter of the ith two-year period of rotation. ii. Another 25% FSUs will be covered in the second quarter (Panel P12) for taking up visit 1 schedule and revisit schedule will be canvassed in the selected households of Panel P11. iii. A new panel P13 of 25% FSUs will be surveyed in third quarter with visit 1 schedule andrevisit schedules will be nvassed in the households of panels P11 & P12. iv. In the fourth quarter, households of panels P11, P12 & P13 will be surveyed with revisit schedule and a new panel P14 with 25% FSUs for visit 1 schedule. v. In the subsequent quarters of second year 75% FSUs (3 panels - P12, P13 & P14) will be common and an earlier panel (P11) will be replaced by a new panel (P15) for canvassingvisit 1 schedule. This will continue till 8th quarter. vi. All the FSUs of the panels P11, P12, ...., P18 (each of which is with 25% of FSUs) will beselected before commencement of survey in the first quarter. vii. At the end of the second year of each two-year duration, updated frame will be used for both rural and urban areas. viii. FSUs of another set of panels P21, P22, ..., P28 selected from the updated frame will be made ready before commencement of first quarter of third year (first quarter of the second two year duration). These panels P21 to P28 will take care of the changes in the urban frame during the intracensal period. ix. In the ninth quarter (first quarter of the second two-year duration), panel P21 selected from the updated frame will be introduced and the panels P16, P17 and P18 of the old frame will be surveyed. x. This scheme will continue for another 2 years with the introduction of panels P22 to P28 each in one quarter for the subsequent 7 quarters till the end of the fourth year (second year of the two-year period). xi. This scheme of rotation of panels will enable generation of estimates of change parameters with 75% matching and 25% of unmatched samples from fifth quarter onwards. xii. One of the main advantages of this plan of rotation is that there will not be any break in the series of estimates of the change parameters starting from 5th quarter. xiii. Since major changes in the rural-urban frame occurs in the Census years (say for the year 2023-24), provision is to be made to generate estimates without break in the series of estimates considering panels from pre and post-census frames.

    Rural samples For rural areas, samples for all the 8 quarters will be selected before commencement of survey for each two-year period, while the frame remains same for this duration. In each quarter, only 25% FSUs of annual allocation (as is done in each sub-round of NSS rounds) will be covered in rural areas so that independent estimates can be generated for each quarter. For this purpose, quarterly allocation will be multiple of 2 for drawing interpenetrating sub-samples
