In 2023, it was estimated that Reddit had a little over one billion million monthly active users (MAU), up by over 11 percent compared to the previous year. Reddit, which was launched in 2005, is a social media and discussion platform known for its engaged communities, called subreddits. Not many of the communities or "subreddits" on the platform are closed - therefor they can be accessed by unregistered users. In December 2023, the news aggregator and social platform counted over two billion visits to its website.

As of the third quarter of 2024, the Reddit mobile app was counting almost 20 million monthly active users (MAU) from the Apple App Store. In comparison, Android active users of the social forum Reddit were around 18.3 millions as of the examined period. Reddit MAU on Android peaked during the second quarter of 2022, reaching over 26.4 million active users during the three months of the examined period.

The social forum and popular media platform Reddit reported over 330 million monthly active users (MAU) as of January 2019. By the beginning of January 2020, Reddit was reporting an increase in MAU of approximately 100 million users, up by over 30 percent compared to the previously reported figure in 2019. Funded in 2005, in recent years Reddit evolved from online forum to social media platform, reaching 50 million daily active users (DAU) as of January 2022.

Social media platform Reddit reported approximately 57 million daily active users (DAU) as of December 2022. This represents an increase of seven million active users engaging with the platform daily compared to the data reported at the beginning of 2022. In 2020, Reddit reported 430 million monthly active users, up by the 330 million MAU reported as of January 2019.

During the fourth quarter of 2024, online forum and news aggregator Reddit saw approximately 101.7 million daily active users (DAU) engaging with its platform. Of these, over 55.6 million users were not logged in and accessed the platform's content without proving they registered to Reddit. This represents an increase of approximately 4.7 percent compared to the previous quarter, when Reddit saw 53.1 million logged-off DAU.

TikTok saw an exceptional increase of monthly active users worldwide from 2019 to 2021, at 38 percent. The short-form video sharing app was used by 689 million individuals monthly as of 2021, compared to 500 million in 2019. Other leading social networks that increased with over 30 percent were Pinterest and Reddit.

The coronavirus pandemic is one of the factors that have resulted in an increased interest in social networking, with billions of people in lockdown, working and studying from home, and in need of socializing.
