In 2023, the highest number of refugees in the Asia-Pacific region came from Afghanistan. There were approximately *** million refugees who came from Afghanistan in that year. In comparison, there were over ************ refugees who came from Mongolia in 2023.

By far, Syrians made up the largest group of refugees living in Sweden in 2022, counting ******* people. Ukrainians, who made up the second largest group, counted just below ******. Meanwhile, Afghans made up the third largest group with ****** refugees. The total number of refugees living in Sweden increased over the past ten years.

This statistic shows the leading countries of origin of refugees coming to Europe from 2010 to 2016. During this time period, there were estimated to be ******* refugees coming from Syria, the most of any country by far. The outbreak of civil war in Syria from 2011 onwards has no doubt contributed to this large displacement of the Syrian population.

Germany has long been involved with international asylum applications, especially in recent years. The most applications came from Syrian asylum seekers. These was followed by applications from Afghanistan and Turkey. The third most common country of origin of migrants whose refugee status was legally recognized by the Mexican government in that year was Venezuela, with 1,602 citizens.
