    Description

This file contains metadata from the 40 most impactful journals in the field of distance education, selected through a rigorous bibliometric analysis using the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) indicator provided by SCImago. Two main criteria guided the selection: the first targeted journals ranked in Q1 and Q2 in the specific category of "e-learning" within the social sciences and education area, highlighting publications that demonstrate high impact and relevance in the academic community according to the selected indicator. The second criterion was based on keyword searches in the journal titles, selecting those that include terms like e-learning, online, Distance Education, Technology Learning, Communications in Information, and Information Education and their variants (e.g., plural), also positioned in Q1 or Q2.

The metadata, extracted from the Scopus database, covers publications from the period 2018 to 2022 and includes vital information such as document type, authors' names, article title, journal name, publication year, pages, volume, and issue number. Additionally, each article is identified by a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and URLs for direct access to the full text online, along with abstracts and keywords. These elements together provide a comprehensive and accessible view of the articles, facilitating bibliometric analyses and related academic research.

This compilation serves as an essential resource for researchers and educators interested in understanding the dynamics and development of the field of distance education, offering a solid foundation for future investigations and the formulation of evidence-based educational policies.

    Description

IntroductionThis study explores impactful research fronts within the digital educational ecosystem using an extended Clarivate approach with a newly formulated Impact Factor (IF) metric. The research addresses limitations of the original Clarivate Citation Production Trajectory (CPT) by integrating a broader IF metric.MethodsThe IF metric expands evaluation by incorporating publication count, growth rate, core paper presence, and citation behavior. It also measures the publication gap between core and citing articles to track developmental shifts. Scopus data from 2019–2023 serve as the analysis base.ResultsThe analysis reveals key research fronts such as online learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, hybrid learning, and digital assessment. Online learning and AI emerge as the most influential.DiscussionThe IF metric enhances precision in detecting impactful fronts over CPT and maps global research activities, highlighting growing contributions from developing regions. This refined approach helps assess both short-term relevance and long-term influence in digital education. The findings emphasize a more inclusive landscape of impactful research across institutions and nations.

    Description

Revenue for colleges and universities in China is expected to grow at an annualized 2.9% over the five years through 2024 to reach $29.3 billion, including a 2.4% rise in the current year. A substantial amount of industry revenue comes from government subsidies, and increasing attention to higher education has been driving the development of the industry. The industry comprises 4,730 institutions, employing 2.5 million people with an estimated payroll of almost $15.6 billion. Public universities and colleges are public welfare and not-for-profit.This industry also benefits from international students studying at Chinese universities (i.e., exports). About 526,000 international students studying in China are expected to generate $1.7 billion for the industry in 2024. Higher education imports (i.e., Chinese students at foreign institutions) are expected to total $9.9 billion in 2024. In 2024, an estimated 820,173 Chinese students are studying at foreign higher education institutions.Revenue for colleges and universities in China is forecast to increase by an annualized 1.8% over the five years through 2029 to reach $32.0 billion. The main growth drivers will be steady increases in demand for higher education and rising government funding levels. The continued globalization of China's economy will facilitate frequent international exchanges and cooperation between institutions, raising demand for higher education in China and boosting industry’s competitiveness. In recent years, some Chinese universities have performed outstandingly in international rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, some universities have been increasing yearly, reflecting their improvement in education quality, research capabilities, and internationalization level. In addition, Chinese universities have carried out large-scale disciplinary and professional adjustments to meet the needs of social development and industrial transformation. These adjustments include adding and removing majors, as well as transforming and upgrading existing majors.

    Description

This document provides an overview of the characteristics of 49 empirical papers and 63 studies that were reviewed for "Virtual Reality Research in Marketing Focusing on Consumers”. This study used two distinct strategies to identify relevant research articles for inclusion in the analysis. Strategy A: Utilizing the SCImago Institutions Rankings as a reference, we targeted the top 50 ranked academic journals and extracted articles that incorporated "Virtual Reality" within their titles, abstracts, or keywords. Articles were obtained directly from the publisher of each journal. In cases where keyword search functionality was absent (e.g., Emerald), we limited the search to papers containing "Virtual Reality" in either their titles or abstracts. This approach resulted in the identification of 65 articles. Strategy B: Our search extended to various databases featured on the EBSCOhost platform, including "Academic Search Premier," "Business Source Premier," "Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection," "ERIC," "EconLit with Full Text," and "Teacher Reference Center." We focused on articles that pertained to both "Marketing" and "Virtual Reality," ensuring that they were peer-reviewed and available in full text. After removing duplicates identified in Strategy A, we extracted an additional 58 articles. In total, 123 articles were retrieved from both strategies. We meticulously reviewed the abstracts and keywords of each article to exclude those unrelated to Virtual Reality or not targeting consumers (e.g., articles on education, research, and development). Consequently, our final dataset included 51 articles (49 empirical papers, comprising 48 quantitative and 1 qualitative study, and 2 framework papers) for further examination.

Initiated by research into the institutional repositories (IRs) of Indonesian higher education institutions, data was collected using 3 web tools, OpenDOAR - Directory of Open Access Repositories, ROAR - Registry of Open Access Repositories and Webometrics – Ranking Web of Repositories. This dataset is the result of the content analysis of 81 Indonesian higher education institutional repositories. The content analysis is part of a Doctoral research at the Department of Information Studies, School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts, Faculty of Humanities, Curtin University, Western Australia. The research title is "Institutional Repositories and Open Access in Indonesian Higher Education Sector: Case Studies of Three Indonesian Universities" (Ethics Approval: No. RDHU-08-15). The other parts of the research are an Online Survey (Jun-Aug 2015) and in-depth interviews conducted in three Indonesian universities in Nov-Dec 2015. The content analysis that produced this dataset is a longitudinal study conducted between Dec 01, 2016 and Feb 01, 2017. This dataset is originally uploaded to accompany a journal article and contains quantitative results of the content analysis: geographical distribution of the IRs, distribution of the IRs based on the status of the universities (state, private), software of the IRs and their features, degree of openness, number of digital objects in each IR, types of work present in each IR, the use of keywords and subject headings as access points (including the language of the access points), and local practices (author and collection naming). The content analysis was mainly done to the metadata of some sample records from and characteristics of each IR. This dataset includes the dataset from the first study (on a different Excel worksheet). The dataset from the first content analysis study that was conducted between Nov 19, 2014 and Feb 01, 2015 can also be found as a separate dataset at https://doi.org/10.4225/06/565BACB4C3CBA . This dataset has resulted in a publication of a journal article titled "A Different Shade of Green: A Survey of Indonesian Higher Education Institutional Repositories" published in Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication (JLSC) in 2017 (https://doi.org/10.7710/2162-3309.2136 ).

    Description

The University and Other Higher Education industry is grappling with the post-pandemic landscape. The COVID-19 outbreak significantly shifted the industry's demand and delivery methods. Social distancing requirements and operational constraints caused most universities to pivot online. Remote learning has remained embedded into teaching post-pandemic, providing convenience for students and profitability benefits for universities. A heightened focus on research during the pandemic offset revenue lost from declines in tuition fees. This trend has been slowing and is under additional threat from a US Government that appears intent on reducing its funding for foreign-based research, to the detriment of Australian institutions. The industry's labour market has been volatile as the pandemic pushed universities to increasingly casualise their workforces. Controversies over underpayment have led to reputational damage and strikes among major Australian universities. Melbourne University's enforceable agreement with the Fair Work Ombudsman to pay more than $72.0 million to over 25,000 staff highlights the magnitude of these disputes. Economic and demographic factors have aided the industry's post-pandemic recovery despite these pressures. A depreciating Australian dollar has benefited returning international students, while growth in the population of people aged 18 to 25 has bolstered domestic enrolments. Lower secondary school retention rates, slipping during the pandemic, are dampening this growth. Overall, revenue is expected to drop at an annualised 1.9% to an estimated $38.8 billion over the five years through 2024-25. This trend includes a 0.6% drop in revenue anticipated for 2024-25. The outlook for the industry is promising, driven by changing labour market conditions and demographic trends. Stricter visa requirements to control migration will pose challenges. However, the industry will face these constrictions by constructing new student accommodation facilities, allowing institutions to enrol international students beyond their designated cap. The consolidation of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia into Adelaide University in 2026 will intensify competition for enrolments, particularly from international students, given its ambitious ranking goals. These factors mean revenue is forecast to climb at an annualised 2.1% to $43.1 billion through the end of 2029-30.

AJS strives to speak to the general sociological reader and is open to sociologically informed contributions from anthropologists, statisticians, economists, educators, historians, and political scientists. AJS prizes research that offers new ways of understanding the social. AJS offers a substantial book review section that identifies the most salient work of both emerging and enduring scholars of social science. Commissioned review essays appear two or three times a year, offering the journal's readers a comparative, in-depth examination of prominent titles. Although AJS publishes a very small percentage of the papers submitted to it, a double-blind review process is available to all qualified submissions, making the journal a center for exchange and debate "behind" the printed page and contributing to the robustness of social science research in general.
