    Introducción Esta base de datos presenta valores reales de presión arterial en la población infantil de la ciudad de Rosario y resulta de suma importancia para conocer algunos aspectos relacionados con los denominados Factores de Riesgo Cardiovascular (FRCV). La recolección de datos se realizó entre el 1 de septiembre de 2023 y el 22 de noviembre de 2023. La Hipertensión Arterial (HTA) es considerada un factor de riesgo cardiovascular con gran mortalidad entre las Enfermedades Cónicas No Transmisibles (ECNT). Afecta al 20-40% de la población adulta (aproximadamente 250 millones de personas), y solo el 57.1% de esa población sabe que tiene hipertensión, lo que contribuye a su bajo nivel de control. En Argentina, Chile, Colombia y Brasil, solo 18.8% de los adultos hipertensos tiene la presión arterial controlada. Esta base de datos tiene como propósito servir como puntapié para que, a partir de su análisis, se puedan pensar y realizar intervenciones de pesquisa en otras poblaciones. La medición de la presión arterial, como parte de la evaluación cardiovascular en etapas tempranas como la niñez, y la categorización de los valores hallados utilizando tablas específicas construidas según la edad, el sexo y la talla (percentiles), constituye una práctica preventiva importante para la detección de personas que podrían beneficiarse con intervenciones efectivas, como cambios en el estilo de vida o medicación, y reducir el riesgo cardiovascular asociado a la HTA. Tanto la medición de la presión arterial como la antropometría resultan herramientas inocuas, fáciles de realizar, económicamente aceptables, cómodas, reproducibles en el tiempo, no invasivas y fiables, con carácter histórico y contextual para realizar diagnósticos en individuos y poblaciones. Estas herramientas, ampliamente utilizadas, proporcionan datos que permiten explicar el estilo de vida y de alimentación, así como optimizar las intervenciones competentes sobre ellos. A partir de la preocupación que genera la problemática de salud infantil en la etapa de escolarización y su relación con políticas públicas implementadas, resulta imprescindible analizar las medidas antropométricas y los valores de presión arterial en esa población. Metodología Con el objeto de generar un registro y una base de datos sobre la prevalencia de hipertensión arterial y las variables antropométricas de la población propuesta de la ciudad de Rosario, se evaluaron 337 niños de ambos sexos, entre 11 y 12 años, en 12 escuelas de distintas zonas de la ciudad: Norte 85 (25.2%), Noroeste 34 (10.1%), Oeste 46 (13.6%), Centro 51 (15.1%), Suroeste 73 (21.7%) y Sur 48 (14.2%) (p=0.05). Se incluyó una escuela estatal y una privada en cada zona, sumando un total de 191 escolares de escuelas estatales (56.7%) y 146 de escuelas privadas (43.3%), siendo 175 niñas (51.9%) y 162 niños (48.1%) (ns). Todas las instituciones seleccionadas brindaban la copa de leche a los alumnos. Durante el estudio, se tomaron medidas antropométricas: peso (kg), talla (cm), perímetro de cintura (cm) y perímetro de cadera (cm), y también se realizaron mediciones de Presión Arterial Sistólica (PAS) y Presión Arterial Diastólica (PAD). A partir de estos datos, se calcularon el Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC), Índice de Cintura-Talla (ICT) e Índice de Cintura-Cadera (ICC). No se observaron errores de medición intraobservador ni interobservador (p>0.05). Previo a la toma de datos, se obtuvieron los consentimientos y los asentimientos informados de los padres y de los escolares, respectivamente. Medidas antropométricas Peso y talla: el peso corporal se tomó con ropa ligera estandarizada. Se midió a los niños con un buzo de gimnasia fino y una remerita, sin zapatos ni ornamentos personales. Todos fueron pesados a la misma hora, antes de la copa de leche. Se utilizó la técnica de medición recomendada por la Sociedad Argentina de Pediatría (SAP), y se emplearon balanzas digitales, cuya calibración fue verificada con pesas testigo. Para la medición de la talla, se usó un estadiómetro desmontable de papel milimetrado y plastificado, colocado sobre una pared sin zócalo, con una escuadra móvil en ángulo recto de 6 cm de ancho. Se utilizó plomada para asegurar la correcta instalación del estadiómetro, y se verificó su posición varias veces antes de comenzar la medición. La talla se define como la distancia entre el vértex y la superficie donde se encuentra el sujeto. La posición del sujeto es crucial para obtener una medición precisa: el niño estaba descalzo o con medias finas, con poca vestimenta para observar la colocación del cuerpo, el cabello de modo tal que no obstaculice la medición y sin ningún tipo de accesorio. Se colocó de pie sobre una superficie plana en ángulo recto con la pared, con los talones, las escápulas, los glúteos y la parte posterior del cráneo en un mismo plano vertical, en contacto con la pared. El peso corporal estuvo distribuido entre ambos pies, y la cabeza orientada según el plano de Frankfort, con los brazos colgando libremente a ambos lados del cuerpo. Posteriormente, cada escolar fue categorizado según las tablas de percentiles de peso y edad para sexo y edad de la SAP 2011 en: percentil normal (P>3- <97), percentil elevado (P>97) y percentil bajo (P<3). Perímetro de cintura y cadera: las medidas de circunferencia de cintura fueron tomadas a nivel umbilical, al final de la exhalación con el abdomen relajado, mientras que la circunferencia de la cadera se midió en el punto más prominente de los glúteos. Se utilizó una cinta métrica flexible e inextensible, calibrada en milímetros (precisión de 1 mm), con el sujeto parado. Índices: a partir de las medidas antropométricas, se calcularon los siguientes índices: el Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC), utilizando el índice de Quetelet, peso en kilogramos dividido por el cuadrado de la talla en metros, kg/m²; el Índice Cintura-Cadera (ICC), que es el cociente entre el perímetro de la cintura y el perímetro de la cadera en centímetros; y el Índice Cintura-Talla (ICT), resultado de la división del perímetro de la cintura por la talla en centímetros. Posteriormente, cada escolar fue categorizado a partir de las tablas de percentiles de IMC para género y edad de la OMS 2007 en: bajo peso (P<3), normopeso (P>3- <85), sobrepeso (P85- <95) y obesidad (P>95). Medición de presión arterial Se realizaron las mediciones de presión arterial con tensiómetro aneroide, bajo las medidas indicadas para la correcta medición arterial por la Sociedad Argentina de Presión Arterial (SAHA). Se utilizaron las tablas de referencia de presión arterial realizadas por la Academia Americana de Pediatría, aprobadas por la Asociación Americana del Corazón (American Academy of Pediatrics/American Heart Association, AAP/AHA, 2017). Según la recomendación del último consenso de prevención cardiovascular en la infancia y la adolescencia, se realizó el diagnóstico de HTA basado en percentiles SAP 2019. Valor de los datos Contar con información acabada sobre las medidas antropométricas en la población de niños en Rosario puede ser de gran utilidad para caracterizar aspectos importantes de la salud en esa etapa de la vida. La disponibilidad de estos datos y su accesibilidad por parte de los responsables y representantes gubernamentales sería importante para la gestión de medidas a implementar desde distintos sectores del Estado. Este aporte tiene la intención de ser fuente de información para la comunidad universitaria y científica en general, responsable de continuar en la búsqueda y en la propuesta de estrategias de abordaje de problemas frecuentes en la sociedad, intentando mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas en términos reales y concretos. La implementación de políticas públicas que combinen esfuerzos en salud y educación resulta indispensable para generar un impacto positivo en la salud infantil, especialmente en las zonas más vulnerables. La detección precoz y el tratamiento oportuno de la hipertensión arterial, junto con mejoras en la calidad de la alimentación proporcionada por el Estado, pueden prevenir el desarrollo de enfermedades crónicas, contribuyendo así a una mejor calidad de vida de las comunidades.

    Description

    Introduction The urban footprint is the spatial extent of urbanized areas dominated by buildings, streets and impervious surfaces with the exclusion of natural surfaces within cities. This definition is graphically represented by Esch et al. (2011) using an urban settlement image following a binary presence/absence raster model, and its determination is made from remotely sensed satellite-borne data. The image is a data matrix with values 1 (one) and 0 (zero), where each value is spatially referenced (georeferenced). The urban footprint is used as input data in the analysis of the spatial distribution and evolution of human settlements. According to the goal set by the United Nations in 2015, in order to develop more inclusive and sustainable urbanizations, the use of the footprint facilitates: the quantification of urban impact, the determination of land use change from rural to urban, land use planning and management, the study of the spatial distribution of people (population density) and services in a given metropolitan area. Dataset content This dataset identifies the urban footprint considering only the buildings present in the city of Rosario (Santa Fe province, Argentina), from the years 2013, 2015 and 2018. They were obtained using synthetic aperture radar satellite images. Dataset sources The satellite images used to create the urban footprints come from three sources: Radarsat-2 through the Scientific Operational and Applications Research program, COSMO-SkyMed through an agreement between the National Commission of Space Activities of Argentina and the National University of Rosario, Sentinel-1 available through the Copernicus Open Access Hub. Dataset reuse These urban footprints can be included as layers in a geospatial data analysis software (geographic information systems, satellite image analysis software or statistical data), as well as in a spatial data infrastructure to combine or complement them with other georeferenced data linked to the urban space in order to obtain different products or services that can respond to different needs in the community. The dataset includes a readme file with relevant information for its reuse.

    Description

    Data was collected to determine the population density of milkweed over a certain amount of area. Two 25 metre transects were placed randomly in the grasslands. The first 20 easily identifiable milkweed plants were studied that layed along the transect. The distance from the beginning of the transect to the middle of the plant was recorded in feet later converted to inches. Using a second transect, the height of the plant was recorded in inches. Researchers then observed and counted how many leaves were attached to the plant as well as the number of alive flowers. The level of crowding around the plant was determined by the researchers based on a 0-3 scale where 0 was determined as no surrounding plants, 1 was determined as minimal crowding having some plants surrounding it, 2 was determined as medium crowding having multiple plants around the plant and 3 was determined as heavily crowded with many plants surrounding the individual species. Data was collected at Danby grasslands at York University on September 23rd, 2015 around 3:30pm. The weather was around 25°C with clear skies on a sunny day. Very minimal shade cover. The transects were placed randomly where milkweed was visible. The members of group 4 are Kristine Del Rosario, Kate Britanico, Nassar Khan, Michael Angelini.

    Description

    The maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) is one of the largest South American canids, and conservation across this charismatic carnivore's large range is presently hampered by a lack of knowledge about possible natural subdivisions which could influence the population's viability. To elucidate the phylogeographic patterns and demographic history of the species, we used 2 mtDNA markers (D-loop and cytochrome b) from 87 individuals collected throughout their range, in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Uruguay. We found moderate levels of haplotype and nucleotide diversity, and the 14 D-loop haplotypes were closely related. Genetic structure results revealed 4 groups, and when coupled with model inferences from a coalescent analysis, suggested that maned wolves have undergone demographic fluctuations due to changes in climate and habitat during the Pleistocene glaciation period approximately 24000 years before present (YBP). This genetic signature points to an event that occurred within the timing estimated for the start of the contraction of the Cerrado around 50000 YBP. Our results reveal a genetic signature of population size expansion followed by contraction during Pleistocene interglaciations, which had similar impacts on other South American mammals. The 4 groups should for now be considered management units, within which future monitoring efforts should be conducted independently.
