    About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the Russia town population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Russia town across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

    In 2023, the population of Russia town was 2,268, a 0.40% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Russia town population was 2,259, a decline of 0.40% compared to a population of 2,268 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Russia town decreased by 219. In this period, the peak population was 2,603 in the year 2011. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages.     Context

    The dataset tabulates the data for the Russia, OH population pyramid, which represents the Russia population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups.     In 2023, Washington, D.C. had the highest population density in the United States, with 11,130.69 people per square mile. As a whole, there were about 94.83 residents per square mile in the U.S., and Alaska was the state with the lowest population density, with 1.29 residents per square mile. The problem of population density Simply put, population density is the population of a country divided by the area of the country. While this can be an interesting measure of how many people live in a country and how large the country is, it does not account for the degree of urbanization, or the share of people who live in urban centers. For example, Russia is the largest country in the world and has a comparatively low population, so its population density is very low. However, much of the country is uninhabited, so cities in Russia are much more densely populated than the rest of the country. Urbanization in the United States While the United States is not very densely populated compared to other countries, its population density has increased significantly over the past few decades. The degree of urbanization has also increased, and well over half of the population lives in urban centers.

    Description

    A data set of cross-nationally comparable microdata samples for 15 Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) countries (Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, USA) based on the 1990 national population and housing censuses in countries of Europe and North America to study the social and economic conditions of older persons. These samples have been designed to allow research on a wide range of issues related to aging, as well as on other social phenomena. A common set of nomenclatures and classifications, derived on the basis of a study of census data comparability in Europe and North America, was adopted as a standard for recoding. This series was formerly called Dynamics of Population Aging in ECE Countries. The recommendations regarding the design and size of the samples drawn from the 1990 round of censuses envisaged: (1) drawing individual-based samples of about one million persons; (2) progressive oversampling with age in order to ensure sufficient representation of various categories of older people; and (3) retaining information on all persons co-residing in the sampled individual''''s dwelling unit. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania provided the entire population over age 50, while Finland sampled it with progressive over-sampling. Canada, Italy, Russia, Turkey, UK, and the US provided samples that had not been drawn specially for this project, and cover the entire population without over-sampling. Given its wide user base, the US 1990 PUMS was not recoded. Instead, PAU offers mapping modules, which recode the PUMS variables into the project''''s classifications, nomenclatures, and coding schemes. Because of the high sampling density, these data cover various small groups of older people; contain as much geographic detail as possible under each country''''s confidentiality requirements; include more extensive information on housing conditions than many other data sources; and provide information for a number of countries whose data were not accessible until recently. Data Availability: Eight of the fifteen participating countries have signed the standard data release agreement making their data available through NACDA/ICPSR (see links below). Hungary and Switzerland require a clearance to be obtained from their national statistical offices for the use of microdata, however the documents signed between the PAU and these countries include clauses stipulating that, in general, all scholars interested in social research will be granted access. Russia requested that certain provisions for archiving the microdata samples be removed from its data release arrangement. The PAU has an agreement with several British scholars to facilitate access to the 1991 UK data through collaborative arrangements.     The database contains continuous chronological series of the main indicators of dynamics for the US economy in 1950-1996 and the results of a preliminary approximation of the corresponding analytical trends up to 2010. The database includes the values of GNP and GDP in the current and fixed prices, price deflators, shares of various industry groups in the structure of the domestic product, indicators of the dynamics for the total national income, values of exports and imports of goods, population data, indicators of general and sectoral employment and unemployment, basic indices of values for intermediate and final products in material production, the current volumes of capital investments, basic indices of production costs and consumer prices, as well as indicators of the national wealth of the United States. Particular attention was paid to inflation rates, the growth of military spending, the dynamics of public debt and such derived socio-economic indicators as the values of the total national product, income and wealth per capita. Due to some ongoing revisions to the US System of National Accounts (NIPA) introduced by the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the US Department of Commerce, all series have been updated to reflect the President's Economic Report of 1997. All the given series of indicators were verified with primary data sources and provided with reference linear charts of statistical trends. The basis for compiling the database was the official reference publications of the US federal departments, as well as statistical materials accumulated and processed in the Section of Economic Databases at the Institute for the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1985-1997.

    Three data sets are included here to aid in assessment of the sea otter population collapse in southwest Alaska. One data set consists of results of sea otter surveys conducted between 1959 and 2015 at Bering Island, Russia and a selection of western Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Sea otter counts are reduced to a comparable value of otters per linear kilometer. Another data set consists per-capita and per kilometer recovery rates of stranded sea otter carcasses from locations ranging from Bering Island, Russia, several Aleutian Islands, sites along the Alaska Peninsula, and Prince William Sound, Alaska. These data are mainly from the period 1991-2009 and are from stable populations as well as those in decline or post decline.     Data describing the development and survival of gypsy moths (Lymantria dispar L. (Lepidoptera: Erebidae)) from all three subspecies on 13 North American conifers and 3 broad leaf hosts were collected (Keena and Richards 2020). Populations from the United States and Greece served as the Lymantria dispar dispar controls for comparison with the Asian strains from the L. d. asiatica (populations from China, Russia, and South Korea) and L. d. japonica (population from Japan) subspecies. The hosts compared were Acer rubrum, Betula populifolia, Quercus velutina, Pinus strobus, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Abies balsamea, Abies concolor, Larix occidentalis, Picea glauca, Picea pungens, Pinus ponderosa, Pinus taeda, Pinus palustris, Pinus rigida, Tsuga canadensis, and Juniperus virginiana.Survival and developmental data (either to 14 day or to adult with reproductive traits also evaluated) are important for assessing whether there is variation between and/or within a subspecies in host utilization. Host utilization information is critical to managers for estimating the hosts at risk and potential geographic range for Asian gypsy moths from different geographic origins in North America. Since the lists of hosts that Asian gypsy moth is known to feed on in other countries is long and no broad evaluation of North American hosts has been done, without data like these it is difficult to evaluate how the hosts at risk in North America to the Asian and established gypsy moths may differ.For more information about these data, see Keena and Richards (2020, https://doi.org/10.3390/insects11040260).

    Forty-six species totaling approximately 80 million individual seabirds breed in Alaska and the Russian Far East. During the summer, seabirds gather in groups to breed and nest. A group of nesting birds is referred to as a colony. This dataset contains 1 nautical mile buffers around colonies of 1000 or more of these species. These colonies are distributed on all parts of the Alaskan and Russian Far East coasts. Seabird colonies have been censused for many years and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has compiled much of the census data in the North Pacific Seabird Colony Database. The database stores data on the location, breeding population size, and species composition of seabird colonies in the North Pacific. Documented colonies total 1,801 in Alaska and 484 in Far East Russia, each with a few pair to 5.75 million birds.

    Description

    After a dramatic population decline, Steller sea lions have begun to recover throughout most of their range. However, Steller sea lions in the Western Aleutians and Commander Islands are continuing to decline. Comparing survival rates between regions with different population trends may provide insights into the factors driving the dynamics, but published data on vital rates have been extremely scarce, especially in regions where the populations are still declining. Fortunately, an unprecedented dataset of marked Steller sea lions at rookeries in the Russian Far East is available, allowing us to determine age and sex specific survival in sea lions up to 22 years old. We focused on survival rates in three areas in the Russian range with differing population trends: the Commander Islands (Medny Island rookery), Eastern Kamchatka (Kozlov Cape rookery) and the Kuril Islands (four rookeries). Survival rates differed between these three regions, though not necessarily as predicted by population trends. Pup survival was higher where the populations were declining (Medny Island) or not recovering (Kozlov Cape) than in all Kuril Island rookeries. The lowest adult (> 3 years old) female survival was found on Medny Island and this may be responsible for the continued population decline there. However, the highest adult survival was found at Kozlov Cape, not in the Kuril Islands where the population is increasing, so we suggest that differences in birth rates might be an important driver of these divergent population trends. High pup survival on the Commander Islands and Kamchatka Coast may be a consequence of less frequent (e.g. biennial) reproduction there, which may permit females that skip birth years to invest more in their offspring, leading to higher pup survival, but this hypothesis awaits measurement of birth rates in these areas.

    The historically established spatial dispersion and uneven population of the vast Russian territory dictate the necessity for continuous improvement of all types of land transportation with railways as the main basis for foreseeable future. New transcontinental routes would significantly accelerate the economic and cultural exchange between the countries of the rapidly developing Pacific region, which is gradually becoming more and more closely uniting as the “Mediterranean Sea of the Future”. At this stage it may be quite promising to implement large and long-term strategic economic projects that can adequately include Russia in the global system of economic relations and open new historical horizons. The objective process of creating an integrated system of international transport links and transit corridors is due to the rapid integration of the global economy, increased transport mobility of the population, the growth of intercontinental passenger flows and cargo turnover. Transcontinental highways are designed to connect the main macroeconomic regions of the world: they are able to optimize existing traffic flows and to create a reliable future infrastructure base for stabilizing the overall system of international economic relations.     Air pollution globalization, as a combined effect of atmospheric transport and international trade, can lead to notable transboundary health impacts. Life expectancy reduction attribution analysis of transboundary pollution can reveal the effect of pollution globalization on the lives of individuals. This study coupled five state-of-the-art models to link the regional per capita life expectancy reduction to cross-boundary pollution transport attributed to consumption in other regions. Our results revealed that pollution due to consumption in other regions contributed to a global population-weighted PM2.5 concentration of 9 μg/m3 in 2017, thereby causing 1.03 million premature deaths and reducing the global average life expectancy by 0.23 year (≈84 days). Trade-induced transboundary pollution relocation led to a significant reduction in life expectancy worldwide (from 5 to 155 days per person), and even in the least polluted regions, such as North America, Western Europe, and Russia, a 12–61-day life expectancy reduction could be attributed to consumption in other regions. Our results reveal the individual risks originating from air pollution globalization. To protect human life, all regions and residents worldwide should jointly act together to reduce atmospheric pollution and its globalization as soon as possible.

About this dataset

Context

The dataset tabulates the Russia town population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Russia town across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

Key observations

In 2023, the population of Russia town was 2,268, a 0.40% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Russia town population was 2,259, a decline of 0.40% compared to a population of 2,268 in 2021.
