This data release contains the U.S. salient statistics and world production data extracted from the SALT data sheet of the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2023.
The apparent consumption of salt in the United States amounted to an estimated ** million metric tons in 2024. Meanwhile, the reported salt consumption stood at around ** million metric tons, a slight increase compared to the previous year.
Annual estimates of road salt application were initially developed for the conterminous United States for the calendar years 1992 through 2015. As more data became available, years 2016 through 2019 were added to the dataset. The final dataset consists of 28 rasters in Geostationary Earth Orbit Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFF), one for each year from 1992 through 2019. The final estimates (in pounds) were derived from several data sources, which include road density and proportion of developed land use, depth and spatial extent of long-term snowfall, and the production and distribution of salt sources by state. The extent is the conterminous United States, and the spatial resolution is one-square kilometer.
According to the report, the global sea salt market was valued at about *** billion U.S. dollars in 2024. The market is projected to reach a value of over *** billion U.S. dollars by 2034.

Context
The dataset tabulates the population of Salt Lake City by gender, including both male and female populations. This dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Salt Lake City across both sexes and to determine which sex constitutes the majority.
Key observations
There is a slight majority of male population, with 51.52% of total population being male. Source: U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates.
When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates.
Scope of gender :
Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. The question is intended to capture data for biological sex, not gender. Respondents are supposed to respond with the answer as either of Male or Female. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis. No further analysis is done on the data reported from the Census Bureau.

Data from the Great Salt Lake and its basin. The Great Salt Lake is a highly saline terminal lake with considerable fluctuations in water surface elevation and salinity. The lake is divided into two arms by a railroad causeway. River inflows enter the larger south arm while the north arm only receives minimal surface runoff. Evaporation from both arms and limited exchange of water and salt through causeway openings result in complex water and salinity processes in the lake. This collection of HydroShare resources makes data from multiple studies on the lake and its hydrology and salinity available for public use

The data provides the approximate limit of Middle Jurassic salt from Plate 2, Principal structural features, Gulf of Mexico Basin (compiled by T.E. Ewing and R.F. Lopez) in Volume J, the Geology of North America (1991). This dataset contains basic data and interpretations developed and compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Framework Studies and Assessment of the Gulf Coast Project. Other major sources of data include publicly available information from state agencies as well as publications of the U.S. Geological Survey and other scientific organizations. In cases where company proprietary data were used to produce various derivatives such as contour surfaces, the source is cited but the data are not displayed.
