Chile has experienced an increase in threats or quarrels reported in the last three years, reaching an all-time high of over 131,800 cases reported in 2023. In the same year, another 2,323 cases of threats with weapons were reported in the South American country.

In 2022, Chile registered 56 femicides, where 41 of them were committed at home, which represents around 73 percent of the total. About 63 percent of the femicides committed this year had as a perpetrator either the partner or ex partner of the victims.

Chile has experienced an increase in the number of criminal complaints between 2020 and 2022. The complaints amounted to more than 1.24 million in 2022, an increase of 16.8 percent from the previous year.
